Chapter 21 Puzzlement

Catherine gently held my hand and looked at me with loving eyes. “You can trust me, Emily. Tell me your confusion, and maybe I can help you,” she said.

I lowered my eyelids and thought about it for a moment. Finally, I gathered the courage to ask Catherine, “When I was in prison, someone tried to poison and kill me. When Leon found out, he immediately sent someone to investigate. I was there at the time, and it had something to do with the slaves of the black wolf. Who are they, and why did they try to hurt me?”

I said all my doubts in one breath, but Catherine paused and showed a shocked expression. I saw her red-painted nails digging deep into the velvet tablecloth. Her bright purple eyes were covered with a layer of frost, and I could feel her anger.

After a long pause, Catherine spoke in a normal tone. “So Leon hid something about the black wolf from you, and you are puzzled. At the same time, you also have doubts about your relationship. Is that right?”

“I don’t think there should be any secrets between mates,” I said carefully. To be honest, I was a little worried that if I said something wrong and annoyed Catherine, she might use the queen’s privilege to punish me. Her anger earlier had really scared me.

Catherine spoke in an easy-going tone, “If Leon chooses not to tell you everything about the black wolf, I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you for the time being. Although I do know about the black wolf. Leon was sent to the army for training by his father when he was seven years old. When I saw him again, he had become a real man, a powerful alpha. From that moment on, I understood that he is no longer the son I remember. He is Prince Leon, the future king of the Wolf clan. If Leon doesn’t tell you about the black wolf, it must be because the time is not yet right. When the time is right, he will tell you everything!”

I felt disappointed with Catherine’s response, but I didn’t want to show my dissatisfaction and loss in front of her. I tried to smile and said, “Thank you, my queen. I’ll think about what you said!” I lowered my eyes and stared at the tableware in front of me.

Catherine then turned the conversation to me and asked, “Tell me everything about you. Where do you come from, and what’s your life like? I’m curious. If you don’t want to talk, I won’t force you. It’s up to you!”

I smiled at Catherine and briefly shared my life in the tribe and how I met Leon. Of course, I deliberately avoided mentioning that I didn’t have wolves before. Instead, I told Catherine some interesting stories that happened in the countryside, and she listened with relish.

As I chatted with Catherine, I couldn’t help but think about Leon and when I would see him again.

“I’m glad you shared so many interesting things with me,” Catherine said, raising her glass. “Anyway, I’m glad you could come to the court. This is your life, Emily!”

Is this my life? Life in court, which I have repeatedly rejected, I am getting used to. I feel conflicted and I am still not sure if this is the life I truly want.

All I want is him!

I raised my glass and clinked it with Catherine’s before taking a sip of red wine. It was a pleasure to chat with Catherine, and I had to admit that she was a good listener. She always kept an elegant smile while listening, and her bright eyes were always so charming.

As we continued to talk, Catherine mentioned that I still had a lot to learn, especially about becoming a luna. She promised to arrange someone to teach me about it and assured me that if I ever encountered any problems, I could always come to her for help.

“Let’s walk in the garden,” Catherine said, holding my hand.

I followed her out into the garden, feeling grateful for her kindness and support. Maybe I could learn to be a good queen like her someday.

I stood up and followed Catherine into the garden. We walked on a flat path, and many white roses were planted on both sides of the road. The faint fragrance of roses smelled good, so I couldn’t help but stop to smell the flowers.

I picked up a white rose bud that was about to bloom and gently brushed the top of the bud with my cheek. The bud that had not yet bloomed instantly opened all its petals, turning into a blooming rose. It was delicate and beautiful, with every petal stained with crystal dew.

“So amazing! The bud you touched has blossomed!” Catherine looked at me with great interest. “Did you just cast a spell?”

“No, the rose just happened to bloom in my hands! This is the magic of nature, not me!” I let go of the rose, and among all the buds, only the one I touched was in full bloom. It looked so special among the other flowers.

I looked silently at the fresh-blooming rose in my hand. As I took a deep breath, a faint scent of roses wafted into my nasal cavity.

It smells great!

I looked at the garden full of roses, and I could vaguely feel the vitality of nature in its infinite amplification. The feeling grew more and more pronounced, a life force.

How could I not have discovered such wonderful things about nature?

I felt like I could blend in with the plants. How I wanted to hug them!

“Who says you have no magic?” A deep, magnetic voice came from behind.

It was Leon. He was back!

Oh! How could he have come back at this time?

My heart was truly astonished. His unexpected presence restored me at once to my lost mood.

Prince, my prince. I felt that I could no longer live without him.
