Chapter 96 You Are Not Worthy of Loving Her

Chapter 96 You Are Not Worthy of Loving Her

I was a bit surprised, yet somehow felt it was inevitable.

Since Lucas could recognize this necklace, the person who saved him was very likely me, though I had no memory of it.

"You must be mistaken," I told Lucas. "This is my necklace, but I never saved you."

Because Lucas knew that his lifesaver who stitched up his wound had used Doyle's suturing method, I couldn't admit it.

I was the "Miracle Surgeon" - that was my biggest secret!

"You won't admit it?" Lucas frowned. "Do you know what this necklace means to me?"

I felt irritated. "It's not that I won't admit it - it's my thing, but it has nothing to do with the person who saved you! Amelia probably wore it all the time, so your memory got mixed up!"

"Impossible!" Lucas said with certainty. "This time I absolutely cannot be wrong!"

I got angry. "So you're not planning to give it back to me?"

Lucas put away the box, his tone stiff. "This necklace means a lot to me. I can't give it to you."

"This necklace means a lot to me too! Are you a thief?" I suddenly remembered that wooden box. I went upstairs to get it. "Holden gave this to me - your mother's belongings. If you want it, give me back my necklace."

Lucas showed no expression. "Are you threatening me?"

"A fair trade. An even exchange." I was equally expressionless.

Alfred looked at Lucas and me, neither willing to back down, and said nervously, "Ms. Sorelli, Mr. Valeri just feels that if you were the one who saved him back then, he would be very happy."

I couldn't help but laugh coldly. "He's happy, but I look like a joke! Lucas, during those three years I was your wife, I loved you with all my heart, and you didn't care at all! Now that you know I might be your lifesaver, your heart suddenly flutters? Then what do those three years of my genuine devotion count for!"

Lucas opened his mouth but no sound came out.

Huge disappointment flooded over me like a tide. I pointed at the door. "Leave. I don't want to see you right now!"

Lucas didn't move. I called for Cole and Adrian to throw Lucas out, but Alfred blocked them.

The standoff continued until Marcus arrived.

"What's going on?" Marcus quickly walked to my side, glaring at Lucas with displeasure. "Why are you here too?"

My eyes reddened. "Marcus, help me get rid of him!"

"Bella, don't cry. I'll get rid of him right away!" Without asking why, Marcus charged at Lucas aggressively. "You made Bella sad again? You jerk!"

Lucas looked at me stubbornly, with some confusion in his eyes.

Marcus punched Lucas hard. "Didn't you hear Bella tell you to leave? You're already divorced - stop bothering Bella!"

The word "divorce" triggered Lucas. His face suddenly darkened. "If Bella hadn't lied to me about the abortion, why would I have agreed to divorce in anger?"

"Lied to you?" Marcus's expression turned cold as he grabbed Lucas by the collar, looking like he wanted to strangle him.

"During that time, Oscar examined Bella several times - she wasn't pregnant at all!" Lucas's fist clenched and unclenched. "So what if we're divorced? Bella is my woman! Bella, come with me. I can overlook the fact that you lied to me."

I looked at him calmly, my heart like still water.

Marcus laughed in anger. "What do you know? You jerk, you don't know anything at all!"

Before I could stop him, Marcus had already blurted out, "Bella really did have a miscarriage! You two had a child, but you never knew from start to finish! When the baby was gone and Bella was lying in the hospital crying silently, you were still keeping Amelia company!"

Lucas was stunned. "What?"

Marcus shoved Lucas hard. "Get out! You have no idea how much Bella sacrificed for you, how much she lost! You don't deserve to love her!"

Lucas trembled all over, looking at me with hope. "Bella, tell me this isn't true!"

"It's true."

"It was eight and a half weeks old, still very small, just an embryo. But the doctor said it existed, and I could feel its existence too, but then it was gone." My eyes stung as tears blurred my vision. "This is something I can never forgive you for."

Marcus threw Lucas out. He stood woodenly at the door for a long time before slowly turning around and leaving step by step.

I spent two days getting my emotions under control. On the third day after returning to Starstream City, Amelia came back too.

The house she lived in, very close to mine, was bought by Lucas. Lucas kicked her out.

Adrian quietly went to watch and came back to tell me what happened.

Amelia probably couldn't stay in Dawnharbor anymore, so she came back. Lucas hired a cleaning company and threw all her stuff outside the door.

Amelia sat at the door crying and making a scene. Passersby and neighbors pointed and whispered, but this time she didn't care at all, even though she usually valued her dignity so much.

Lucas came and sat in his car. Amelia knelt by the car door begging him, "I shouldn't have worked with Grace to harm you. I was wrong, Lucas, please, don't kick me out! I can't go back to the Gambino family anymore. They all hate me. If you don't take me in, I'll be given to some old man as a plaything!"

"Can you bear to do that? Lucas, I have feelings for you too!" Amelia screamed herself hoarse. This time it wasn't an act. In the end, Lucas gave her a new option - sending her back to Silverpine Town.

"Then Lucas left," Adrian said. "He probably didn't come specifically to see Amelia, because he stayed outside our door for a long time."

I looked at the documents in my hand as if I hadn't heard. Adrian waited a few seconds and continued, "When Amelia heard she was being sent back to Silverpine Town, her face went pale with fear. Although she agreed, I don't think she'll willingly leave just like that."

Adrian reminded me, "Ms. Sorelli, I think you should be careful. I saw Amelia looking in the direction of our villa with a venomous look in her eyes for a full half minute. She's like a poisonous snake cornered now - who knows what crazy things she might do."

I looked up. "I've noted this. Have someone keep track of Amelia's whereabouts and report to me immediately if anything seems off."

"Yes!"

Sure enough, Amelia didn't go to Silverpine Town.

That small place had a dry climate and was desolate and bleak, with few flowers. When strong winds blew, the sky filled with yellow sand.

She had finally left that shabby little town for the big city, lived as a rich young lady for several years - how could she bear to go back?

But two days later, Adrian said Amelia had disappeared.

She was hiding somewhere. We only knew she hadn't left Starstream City, but where she was hiding was unclear.

Michelle stayed with the Gambino family, completely ignoring Amelia.

That afternoon, I was working in my office.

Someone knocked on the door. Without looking up, I said, "Come in."

After a while, the person who came in said nothing. I looked up in confusion and met Jonas's bright smile.

"Haven't seen you in days. I just finished a big deal and immediately came to see you!" Jonas said.

"A big deal? Sounds like you made good money." I smiled and invited Jonas to sit down. "I haven't thanked you yet for providing accommodation in Dawnharbor. You really helped me out."

"How are you planning to thank me?" Jonas asked with a smile.

"How would you like me to thank you?"

"Go on a date with me, how about that?" Jonas asked casually.

"Okay," I answered.

"I hope you'll give me a chance—" Jonas paused. "Wait, you agreed?"

"Yes, I agreed." I wanted to try and see if I could fall in love with a man other than Lucas.
