Chapter 64 Someone I Want to Seriously Pursue

Chapter 64 Someone I Want to Seriously Pursue

"A witness?"

I called Karen and Jonathan to ask if they knew who it was.

"Not clear yet. Since it's someone who can prove the relationship between Amelia and Doyle, could it be someone you know, too?" Karen said.

I pondered for a moment. "Very likely."

"Bella, you and Lucas?" Karen struggled with how to continue. "Thank goodness Marcus isn't in Starstream City right now, otherwise, with his temper, he'd probably go kill Lucas!"

Thinking of Marcus's personality, I immediately got a headache. "Don't let Marcus know for now. Keep it from him as long as possible!"

"Don't you hate Lucas?" Karen asked somewhat curiously.

I was silent for a while, then said, "More than hate, I feel powerless and disappointed."

Given Lucas's condition, unless he died or his love deprivation syndrome was cured, he would probably keep entangling with me.

I scheduled the press conference for three days later, giving myself time to investigate.

This conspiracy against me was probably planned by Michelle. She was very careful, hiding the witness's information tightly.

Even so, the day before the press conference, I still got reliable information.

The witness was Tyler, editor-in-chief of a famous medical science magazine.

He had compiled the "International Doctors Comprehensive Strength Rankings" and became famous for his sharp commentary and accurate rankings.

Many doctors took pride in making his list, but Doyle told me he was just a fame-seeking guy.

Tyler and Doyle were acquaintances. Whenever Tyler had time, he would visit Doyle and write up some of Doyle's less important research findings and treatment cases to publish in his magazine.

Tyler's cooperation with Michelle was probably also to get Doyle's notes.

The person who brought me the accurate information was Jonas.

"You've lost weight." Jonas looked me over carefully. "I never thought Lucas would actually kidnap you. I've known him for so many years, and this is the first time I've seen him this crazy."

I didn't pick up on his comment and lifted the kettle lid to check the boiling water, then put a few dried rose buds in it.

"I heard the Phoenix Blood Balm I gave you all sold out?"

"No." Jonas winked at me. "Hunger marketing, you know."

I smiled. "That's so you."

Jonas rested his chin on one hand, took a sip of water, and said casually, "Your two brothers and Lucas had a big fight. Lucas seems to have suffered quite a loss. He's apparently been in the hospital these past few days. I heard he was seriously injured."

"Really? I don't know much about it."

"You don't care?" Jonas asked curiously.

I shook my head. Lucas's injuries were caused by me—not fatal, but Lucas would have to stay in bed recovering for a while.

"Looks like you two have completely broken up!" Jonas curved his lips. "I'm one step closer to winning your heart!"

I couldn't help rolling my eyes. "Aren't you tired of this joke yet?"

"Because I'm serious!" Jonas spread his hands. "I originally wanted to rescue you myself, but unfortunately, I was a step behind your brothers. I've already said goodbye to all my lovers. Although they cried miserably and made me want to feel sorry for them, I still firmly told them I have someone I want to seriously pursue."

"That person is you—Bella." Jonas looked at me affectionately.

"Can you give me a fifty percent discount on the weapons I buy next quarter?" I asked.

"No," Jonas said seriously. "Business is business, even for you!"

"I think what you love most is clearly money." I shook my head, not taking Jonas's words seriously.

"What are you planning to do about Tyler?" Jonas eagerly suggested, "I'll help you get rid of him so he can't attend the press conference. How about it?"

I thought for two seconds. "No need. Let him come. Even with him testifying, they can't take away Doyle's notes."

"You already have a way to deal with it?" Jonas asked perceptively. "You seem very familiar with Tyler—not afraid of him at all?"

"A magazine editor—what's there to be afraid of?" I smiled. "If Michelle can work with him, so can I. It's just a matter of who offers him a more tempting deal."

"You look so charming when you're confident. I really look forward to your performance tomorrow." Jonas blew me a kiss. "I gave you timely information—how are you going to thank me?"

I glanced at him. "I'll treat you to a meal. Don't even think about me increasing the supply of Phoenix Blood Balm. Thanks are thanks, business is business!"

Jonas laughed heartily. "Alright, after the press conference, I want you to personally cook to thank me. Is that okay?"

I was a bit surprised he would make such a request. "My cooking is very ordinary."

Jonas pouted. "Lucas loved your cooking. Don't brush me off. I must taste how good it really is."

I shook my head with a smile. "Alright, since you want to eat it, I'll show you my cooking skills."

After Jonas left, I sent Tyler a text message. Before long, he called me.

I instructed him on a few things, and he agreed right away.

The next morning, I held the press conference at a hotel. It started at ten, but before nine-thirty, a large number of reporters had already arrived.

Brian stood beside me, and together we looked out from the office window at the press conference entrance. He narrowed his eyes and said, "Michelle and Amelia brought a lot of reporters. Looks like they're very confident."

"The happier they are now, the more disappointed they'll be later." I suddenly remembered something. "By the way, Brian, I suspected before that Byron isn't Michelle's son."

"The investigation already has results." Brian nodded. "The paternity test results show he has no blood relation to her. Do you want to make this public today?"

I thought about it and shook my head. "Today isn't a good time—it won't hurt her much. Keep investigating. She did give birth to a son back then. We at least need to find that person."

At nine-fifty, I headed to the press conference. Michelle and Amelia deliberately arrived a few minutes late.

When she saw me, Michelle remained composed, but Amelia's face was gloomy.

That day, she had publicly announced to the media that she and Lucas were "in love and getting married soon," but Lucas not only didn't respond to her, he also took down all the news.

Then the incident of Lucas kidnapping me caused a citywide uproar, and Amelia became a laughingstock, having created a farce.

Now, Amelia probably hated me to the bone.

I glanced at them twice, then looked away, nodding at James to signal that the press conference could begin.

James turned on the microphone. "Everyone, good morning. Thank you for attending this press conference. Regarding Amelia's unrealistic accusations, we will make the following clarifications."

Suddenly, there was a commotion at the entrance, interrupting James's opening remarks.

I frowned and looked over, suddenly having a strange premonition.

The crowded people parted to both sides like Moses parting the sea, and Lucas walked in.

Flashbulbs went crazy, cameras focused on the three of us—me, Lucas, and Amelia.

The ownership of the notes suddenly seemed unimportant. The reporters were more curious about the romantic entanglement between the three of us.

Lucas looked at me. I lowered my eyes. Brian, Adrian, and Cole stood in front of me, and even Jonas came to my side, blocking Lucas's view.

"Lucas!" Amelia broke into a brilliant smile and joyfully jogged toward Lucas.
