Chapter 205 He Suspects Someone Wants to Harm Him
Edgar's retreating figure looked somewhat melancholic.
After he left, Adrian closed the office door and asked me curiously, "Ms. Sorelli, do you not trust Edgar?"
Adrian's guess was right on the mark. I smiled and asked back, "Why do you think that?"
"Intuition." Adrian scratched his head. "Plus, Edgar's father has close ties with the Thornfield family. We've run into several incidents related to the Thornfield family, which really makes it hard to feel at ease."
"Since you could figure all that out, I'll leave the task of investigating Edgar to you." I said with a smile. "Whether I gain an ally or an enemy depends on you."
Adrian looked a bit surprised. He straightened up and playfully saluted me, "I'll get it done!"
Later that evening, Lucas came to have dinner with me.
As soon as he walked in, Alfred, who was usually quiet, actually complained to me, "Mrs. Valeri, Mr. Valeri wants me to marry a woman from the Marr family!"
"Who?" A woman's face popped into my mind. "Angelina?"
Lucas said nothing. Alfred nodded with a bitter expression.
My face stiffened with shock.. "Why is she back again?"
"The women in the Marr family are all brainwashed." Lucas pointed at his own head. "No matter how old they are, they all believe family interests come first and see arranged marriages as their mission."
"So what does this have to do with Alfred?" I watched as Lucas approached and sat down beside me, crossing his legs casually with a carefree attitude.
"Alfred's not getting any younger. He should've been married long ago. He can't let taking care of me delay such an important life event." Lucas said with a straight face.
Alfred's face turned red. "Anyway, I'm not marrying Angelina! She's obsessed with Mr. Valeri. She's crazy!"
Lucas threw his head back and laughed.
I smacked him in annoyance. "Stop teasing Alfred! He's an honest guy who believes everything you say."
Lucas grabbed my hand and rubbed his chest. "Alright, Alfred, I was just joking with you."
Alfred let out a long sigh of relief.
Adrian winked at him. "You don't like Angelina? She's beautiful!"
Alfred made a gesture as if offering her to him. "You can marry her since you think she's very beautiful."
Adrian quickly waved his hands in refusal.
I pulled my hand from Lucas's grip and looked him up and down. "You're quite popular, aren't you?"
Lucas sat up straight and said seriously, "Don't worry, you're the only one in my heart."
"I'm not worried. I'm pretty popular too." I smiled calmly, but Lucas couldn't stay calm. Even though there was plenty of space on the sofa, he squeezed over, hugged me, and wouldn't let go. "I'm worried. If those idiots pursuing you are stupid enough to actually pursue you, i'm scared of what I would do to them!"
"I like how possessive you are about me." I leaned into Lucas's embrace and touched his face.
Lucas's cold eyes warmed up. He asked me, "Are you free the day after tomorrow? Let's go see a movie."
"What movie?"
Lucas took out his phone and showed me the movie trailer.
I pointed at one of the male actors and asked thoughtfully, "This person looks a bit familiar."
Lucas looked at me carefully. "Bella, I've noticed you seem to have a bit of face blindness. When you saved me back then, didn't you remember anything at all?"
"I do remember a little. You had a penetrating wound on your left abdomen and torn muscle on the outer side of your right upper arm."
"The memory I'm talking about isn't about my injuries." Lucas rested his chin on my shoulder, feeling down. "You didn't recognize me at all."
But my way of remembering patients is by remembering their medical records!
I laughed awkwardly and changed the subject. "Who is this actor? Callahan Shaw, do I know him?"
"Probably not." Lucas answered casually. "However, he's an illegitimate son of the Thornfield family. That's why you think he looks familiar."
"The Thornfield family again." I sighed in frustration. "Michelle has disappeared somewhere, yet the Thornfield family keeps popping up everywhere."
Callahan took his mother's surname. According to Lucas, Callahan had been living away from the family since childhood and was only discovered by the Thornfield family three years ago because he looked strikingly similar to Don from the Thornfield family when he was young. But the Thornfield family still hasn't acknowledged his identity.
I really didn't know him, but life is full of surprises and coincidences. The next day, I met Callahan.
Roger said an important person came seeking medical treatment and specifically asked to see me.
I rushed to the recovery area and met this so-called "important person."
The old man sitting upright on the sofa looked fairly healthy with decent color in his face, his spirit barely holding up his presence, but deep in his eyes was an undeniable exhaustion and gloom.
He was the head of the Thornfield family, Theron Thornfield.
Callahan and Theron were at least forty years apart in age, with seventy percent resemblance in appearance. He stood respectfully in the position closest to Theron, his eyes showing deep admiration and affection.
Lucas and I walked up to them. "Hello, Mr. Thornfield, I'm Isabella."
Lucas nodded in acknowledgment and pulled me to sit across from them.
Theron's gaze carried the scrutiny typical of those in power, his expression unpredictable. "So you're the Miracle Surgeon? Indeed young and accomplished. I heard you're very good at treating difficult and complicated cases?"
"The person best at treating difficult and complicated cases is my teacher, Doyle." I said modestly. "My medical skills aren't even one-tenth of his."
Theron nodded, his thoughts unreadable. He expressed his wish to stay at the recovery center for a while to rest and wanted a full body checkup.
"I'm getting old and often feel weak and tired in my limbs. I get exhausted after just a few steps, feel dizzy, and can't catch my breath. I've been to many hospitals for checkups, and the doctors all say it's organ deterioration, a normal aging phenomenon."
Theron's voice carried the characteristic hoarseness of an elderly person. He paused, and his tone suddenly dropped. "But I always feel like someone is poisoning me, like someone is trying to kill me!"
So Theron was a suspicious person. I was about to speak when Lucas said, "Bella and I won't get involved in your family's internal power struggles."
Theron stared at Lucas as if remembering something. "You're very arrogant, exactly like Holden when he was young."
Lucas looked annoyed. He really didn't like being compared to Holden. "When I'm old, I won't end up as miserable as him."
I was afraid Theron would say more things Lucas didn't want to hear, so I spoke up at the right moment. "Mr. Thornfield, please stay here with peace of mind. Whatever you need, Platinum Haven Hotel will do our best to accommodate you."
Then Lucas and I personally helped him with the check-in procedures. After resting for a day, he underwent the physical examination. On the third day of Theron's stay, I received all the test results.
"Well?" Theron asked me, his gaze intense.
"Everything is normal. You have high blood pressure, and your blood lipid levels are also quite high. You need to focus on preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Your diet should be lighter, don't be picky about food, and exercise more." I briefly explained the situation and asked for his opinion. "I've looked at the regular medications you're taking. There are no problems, no adjustments needed. But if you want, I can prescribe new medications for you."
Theron's eyebrows drooped, looking very disappointed.
"Is that your conclusion? Then you're no different from any other quack!"
