Chapter 92 Until You Remember Me

Chapter 92 Until You Remember Me
Andrew’s eyes widened for a second, just long enough to betray his panic, before he immediately looked away. Shame settled in his features, his shoulders sinking as though her words had confirmed the guilt he'd been trying to suppress.

For a moment, silence stretched between them, heavy and accusing. Then, with a long exhale, he spoke.

“I didn’t hide anything from you,” Andrew said, his voice low, almost apologetic.

“I swear, I honestly didn’t know he was here all this time.”

Rainee studied him. His tone held no deception, but her mind was already spinning with unanswered questions. Her chest tightened as a sudden thought surfaced, one she had buried out of fear.

“Was it him… who donated his cornea to me?”

she asked, barely above a whisper. Her voice trembled, betraying the storm brewing inside her. Andrew didn’t answer. He didn’t need to.

The silence and the look in his eyes were confirmation enough. Rainee’s breath hitched, her fingers curling into the sheets.

A part of her had suspected, but confirming it without denial made the truth land with unbearable weight. Her voice steadied, though emotion glimmered underneath.

“Tell me everything,” she said. “From the beginning to the end.”

Andrew remained quiet for a moment, as if silently preparing himself to reopen wounds he had hoped would stay buried. Then he pulled a chair closer and sat, his expression resigned.

He knew there was no turning back now.

“When he couldn’t find a suitable match for you, he secretly ran tests on himself, and discovered he was a match. He insisted that the doctor replace your cornea with his, but the doctor refused. Then… he found you with his gun. You were about yo ki-- I still remember that night vividly. After making you sleep, he screamed at everyone for not checking on you regularly. I’ve never seen him so furious, he almost lost his sanity.”

He paused, taking a deep breath, as if the air itself could steady him.

“He asked to speak to me privately. We went to his car, and he told me he would give his cornea to you the next day. I tried to change his mind, but it was clear he had made his decision. He was afraid you would change your mind and refuse to get the surgery if it's not done as soon as possible. He couldn't risk leaving you in a darkness anymore."

He sucked breath as if trying hard to control his tears remembering the moment Alex was unrecognisable

"Luckily he found you on time but what if he wouldn't able to stop you in time? He was ready to give his all just to pull you out of the darkness and so you can move forward. When I asked him, 'what we gonna tell you?'. He said it would be better if you don't get to know the truth about the donor, so you wouldn’t feel guilty for no reason, and could move on with your life. He believed you probably hated him, so it wouldn’t matter if he disappeared from your life.”

His eyes glistened as he recalled the memory, the struggle on his face evident.

“After the operation, he disappeared from the hospital. Later, we found his car in the ocean. That’s why I thought it was impossible for him to survive… losing his sight, and with his car found there. I had no idea how he ended up here.” She frowned, doubt gnawing at her.

“Then why were you so against me coming to this Island?” He looked around, measuring his words.

“There are things I can’t disclose. It’s better if you hear them from Mr. Fraser himself.”

Frustration bubbled in her chest. But she kept it inside her heart. “Where can I meet Mr. Fraser?”

He asked She exhaled heavily, the tension in her body clear. “He… he forgets everything.”

“What?! He doesn’t remember you at all?”

“That’s what he said. I don’t know if he’s telling the truth or pretending… trying to drive me away.”

Her chest tightened, a pang of pain twisting through her. What had he been thinking when Alex made those decisions? Did he love her so deeply that he sacrificed everything for her, without a thought for himself? Her hands trembled as she imagined the despair that must have driven him to throw himself into the ocean. Tears spilled unbidden, stinging her cheeks and choking her throat.

“You can leave. I’ll stay here with him until he remembers everything.” Andrew tried to protest.

“But---”

“You’re not in a position to argue, Andrew. I understand you did everything he asked, but please… respect my wishes. He’ll feel uncomfortable with everyone around.”

As soon as she said it, they left without protest. It was five in the morning, and she could wait no longer. Her heart ached to rush into his arms, to hold him, yet a part of her burned with anger at how recklessly he had risked everything.

The winter morning was dark and silent, and no transportation was available. She ran straight to his home. Knocking repeatedly, she waited, breath catching, until he slowly opened the door. Relief washed over her, he looked disoriented, adorably disheveled, hair falling messily across his forehead.

“Who is this?” he asked, eyes wide.

“Good morning.” Shock crossed his features, a flicker of recognition there, fleeting but undeniable.

“Wh-What are you doing here at this hour?”

“I’m here to take care of my husband… just like he did for me when I was---” She stopped, unwilling to dig into the pain and memories she had buried long ago.

“Mrs. Fraser… I’m not your husband. I’m not him.”

“Then tell me your real name, other than J-Star. Do you even know your own name? Why did you stop when I called it the very first time? How did you know my original surname?”

He looked flustered under her barrage of questions, clearing his throat.

“It’s none of your business.” A faint smile tugged at her lips. She remembered how often she had said that to him whenever he poked into her affairs.

“You’ve learned so much from me. Now step aside, I want to cook breakfast for you.”

Suddenly, he blocked her path, anger sparking in his eyes.

“Stop it, please! If you try to enter my house, I’ll call the police!”

With that, he slammed the door shut. She sank against the wall, stunned and disbelieving. Seven months… and her Alex had changed so much. Exhaling, defeated but determined, she sat on the bench nearby, listening to the faint sounds of him moving inside.

________

Time passed, though she couldn’t tell how long, before he emerged. She jumped up, tripping over a rock.

“Fuck!” she cursed.

He froze, startled. “You’re still here?”

“I---”

She struggled to find words that wouldn’t make him uncomfortable. What she truly wanted to say was that she needed to stay close, afraid he might vanish again, but she swallowed it.

He sighed and began walking away, indifferent. She followed, determined to maintain the fragile connection between them.

“Did you have breakfast?”
