Chapter 31 Chapter 31

Chapter 31 Chapter 31
Immediately Jessica finished speaking, Megan burst into laughter.

She didn’t try to hide it, She didn’t soften it.
The sound rang out clear and sharp, filled with disbelief and pure ridicule, as though everything Jessica had just said was too absurd to deserve anything else.

Deborah’s jaw tightened at once.
Jessica’s did too.
Neither of them could believe that Megan would dare laugh at such a moment especially after everything that had just happened, and especially after Jessica had invoked Vincent’s name with so much pride and certainty.

To them, Megan should have been intimidated, she should have been shaken.
She should have looked wounded, regretful, maybe even envious.
Instead, she was laughing, and that made it worse.
Much worse, Immediately Jessica’s face darkened with anger.
“What exactly is so funny?” she snapped.
Her voice came out sharper than before, her pride clearly bruised.

“What the hell is wrong with you, anyway? Is this funny to you?”
She stepped forward, glaring hard at Megan.
“Why are you laughing?”
Her tone turned bitter, almost accusing.
“You should be ashamed of yourself.”

Then, with all the venom she could gather, she said, “You should be ashamed that the moment you left my brother’s life, he suddenly became the fastest-growing entrepreneur.”
Jessica’s voice was still dripping with scorn when she continued, pointing at Megan as though she were something pitiful.

“And you look at you. You are just an ex-convict with nothing going for you. I do not know how you got that Diamond card, and I do not know what kind of relationship you have with Mr. Liam, but mark my words every single one of you will soon be begging.”
She lifted her chin with absolute confidence.
“Yes, begging. Because by now, my brother Vincent should already be all over the news.”

Deborah immediately followed, her tone cold and dismissive.
“You should not even waste so many words on them,” she said. “They do not deserve that much explanation. People like them are not worthy of hearing such things.”
But before either of them could say another word, Megan slowly cleared her throat.

The sound was small, but it cut cleanly through their arrogance.
Then she looked at them and spoke with unsettling calm.
“So,” she said, “you mean to tell me that your brother is about to be all over the news as the fastest-growing entrepreneur?”
Her lips curved faintly, but there was no amusement in her eyes now only certainty.
“Well, I do not think that is going to happen.”
That instantly wiped some of the smugness from Jessica’s face.
Megan continued.
“Because from what I know and from what I have done your brother will not even come close to the news as the fastest-growing entrepreneur.”

Then she paused just long enough for the words to sink in.
“Rather, he is going to make the news as the first person to lose a contract of that magnitude when he was at the finishing end.”
Her gaze remained steady.
“That is what he is going to be known for. Not the nonsense you are both proudly saying.”

Then, with quiet finality, she added, “It is going to be the exact opposite.”
For a heartbeat, Deborah and Jessica simply stared at her.
Then both of them burst into laughter.
Not nervous laughter, mocking laughter, disbelieving laughter.
“What the hell are you even talking about?” Deborah scoffed.
Jessica shook her head as she laughed harder.
“Do you think it is easy?”

“By now, Mr. Oliver would already be shaking my brother’s hand, and soon everybody will see it,” Jessica declared proudly. “Do you think it is easy to land a contract worth one hundred billion dollars? What? We are talking about serious people here, not an ex-convict like you. So I do not see any reason why you would understand.”
Megan looked at her for a moment, then gave a small, dismissive shake of her head.

“Well,” she said calmly, “I do not have any more time to waste on either of you.”
Her voice was light, but every word carried weight.
“I truly have no time left to stand here exchanging foolish words.”
Then she tilted her head slightly and added, “Instead of talking so much, do your findings. Check your phones.”
Her eyes moved from Jessica to Deborah.

“I am very sure that by now your so-called brother your so-called great entrepreneur has already begun to understand exactly what is happening to his life.”
There was something unnervingly certain in the way she said it.
Then Megan straightened and ended the conversation with quiet finality.

“I have no more words to exchange with you people. So have a nice day and wait for what is coming!.”
The dismissal stung far more than any insult could have.
At once, Director Liam stepped slightly aside and gestured respectfully toward the entrance of the bank, silently inviting Megan to come with him. Then he bowed his head with formal courtesy.

Without wasting another second, Megan turned and walked toward the bank entrance.
Her steps were steady, Unhurried.
Unbothered as well.

And in the next moment, she passed through the doors and disappeared from Deborah and Jessica’s sight.
The instant she was gone, both Deborah and Jessica’s jaws tightened in fury and confusion.
Then, almost at the same time, they turned to each other and said, “What the hell is that good-for-nothing ex-convict even talking about?”
