Chapter 20 Chapter 20

Chapter 20 Chapter 20
Immediately, Vincent broke into a wide smile.
“Why shouldn’t I be proud?” he said, his voice full of swagger. “I’m proud. Very, very proud. In fact, I’m extraordinarily proud.”

He adjusted his cuff and let out a satisfied laugh, looking completely pleased with himself.

“And thank goodness that good-for-nothing Megan is finally out of the picture,” he added without shame. “Nobody is going to tie her name to mine anymore. Nobody is going to look at me and start saying rubbish like, ‘Oh, isn’t that the man who married an ex-convict?’”
He shook his head, still smiling.

“No. That part is over. Completely over. And honestly, I’m happy about it. Extremely happy.”
His face hardened slightly with cold pride.

“Everything we did was strategic,” he said. “Everything. We planned it well, and now we’re already seeing the result.”
He began pacing slowly, too excited to stand still.

“Now people can breathe freely around me,” he continued. “Now nobody has anything messy to attach to my name. That was the best thing to do, and that is exactly what I did.”
At that moment, Jessica crossed her arms and lifted her chin with satisfaction.

“Well, you don’t even need to worry about Megan anymore,” she said confidently.
Vincent turned to look at her.
Jessica smiled, pleased with herself.

“I already handled that side,” she said. “I paid one of the top blogs and many of those big social media gossip people to bury anything she might try to say.”
Deborah’s eyes lit up immediately.
Jessica continued, clearly enjoying the attention now.

“Because I know someone like Megan might want to come out and start telling stories. She might want to play victim and talk about what happened, but they’ll deal with her before she even gets the chance.”
A smug smile spread across her lips.
“They’ll twist it, drag her, embarrass her, and make her look unstable. The moment people hear her side, those blogs will already have a different version out there. Nobody is going to believe her.”

Vincent’s smile returned, deeper this time.
That sounded exactly like the kind of backup he liked.
At that moment, Deborah looked at Jessica with open pride and said, “That’s my daughter. You are learning so fast and so quick. And yes, I really love this agility from you. I really love this, Very, very nice of you.”

At that moment, Vincent straightened his suit and glanced at the time.
“Well, I don’t have all day,” he said, his tone brisk now, all business and confidence. “And you know it’s Global Investments that is presenting me this deal. That’s where I’ll be signing it, at their office. And I’ll be seeing Mr. Oliver there too.”

Just mentioning Oliver’s name seemed to add even more importance to the moment.
“So I really can’t afford to waste any time,” Vincent continued. “I need to be punctual. I have to be there by one twenty.”

The room immediately responded with approving nods.
“Yes, that is the right thing to do.”
“Exactly. Don’t keep people like that waiting.”
“You have to make a strong impression.”
Mr. Bushman clapped once, firmly, as if sealing the matter.
“That’s how serious men move,” he said. “Be there on time. Handle it properly.”

Deborah nodded with satisfaction.
“And don’t worry,” she added. “We are with you fully. We’ll be there to support you in every way.”

Jessica also chimed in, smiling brightly. “Of course. We’re already waiting for the good news.”
Then Deborah remembered something and turned slightly.

“But for now, we also have somewhere to be. We need to go to Diamond Bank. There’s something we need to take care of there as well.”
Jessica nodded in agreement.
“Yes, once we’re done there, we’ll be waiting for your message. The moment you send good news, we’re starting preparations immediately. We are definitely going to celebrate this.”

Vincent smiled and gave a confident nod.
“You’ll hear from me soon,” he said. “Very soon.”

Then, without wasting any more time, he adjusted himself once more, ready to leave.
At that moment, Deborah said, “Alright then, I’ll start getting ready now so I can take my leave.”
Vincent nodded once again, full of confidence and expectation.

“I’ll send you the good news pretty soon,” he said.
Immediately after that, Vincent walked away, and when Vincent walked away, that was when Deborah and Jessica also walked away.

Inside Megan’s new mansion, the silence felt almost unreal.

It was too big, too polished, too luxurious.
Even now, standing in the middle of it, she still found it hard to believe that Oliver had handed over a place like this to her so easily, as if it were nothing.

She had not expected something this big, not even close.
The tall ceilings, the expensive furniture, the spotless floors, the quiet elegance in every corner of the house, it all felt like something out of another world, a world she had only seen from a distance but never imagined stepping into herself.

And without anyone needing to tell her, she already knew exactly what it meant.
Oliver was trying to impress her.
That much was obvious.
But Megan was not used to any of it.
She was not used to luxury on this scale.
Not used to living in a place where everything looked costly enough to belong in a magazine, not used to being surrounded by comfort so complete it almost felt intimidating.
And more than that, she was not used to what came with such power.

The respect.
The careful way people spoke.
The unspoken understanding that a person like this was not to be toyed with, It made her thoughtful, Curious, even.
She found herself wondering what it truly felt like to live like this every day, to have people automatically lower their voices around you, to have your name carry weight before you even entered a room.

However Before she could think too deeply about it, her phone suddenly rang.
The sharp sound cut through the quiet house.
Megan reached for it and glanced at the screen.
It was Oliver.
She answered the call.
The moment she picked up, Oliver spoke from the other end.
“I’m sorry to bother you, Miss Megan” he said. “I just want to be clear, and I want to have a proper understanding of how you want this handled.”

Megan stayed silent and listened.
Oliver continued.
“The contract that was supposed to be signed today… the one worth one hundred billion dollars… the one that was meant to go to your ex-husband, Vincent…”

He paused briefly.
“Should we cancel it? Is that what you want me to do?”
Megan did not hesitate.
“Yes,” she said immediately. “Cancel it. That is exactly what I want you to do.”

Her tone was calm, but firm.
Then she added, “And also, I’ll be going to activate my bank account. That account has been dormant for a long time, so I need to go to the bank myself and reactivate it. I’ll also reactive my MasterCard.”

She glanced toward the table as she spoke, her mind already on the things she needed to do.
“I saw the card you left on the table,” she said. “So I’ll go there and get that sorted out.”

Then her voice turned colder, more controlled.
“So just do what I asked you to do and leave the rest for me.”
