Chapter One Hundred and Eleven

Chapter One Hundred and Eleven
Alana

I’m on my way to Lucy’s place. She has no idea I am on my way. Hopefully, she will be home. I haven’t seen her in a while or spoken to her much recently. It hasn’t been on purpose, but so much has been going on. I plan on making it up to her, though.

Ezra and I have been in LA for a couple of days. We relaxed at his place before all the stressful stuff needed to be done. Today, he headed into the office before meeting his parents. I know I will need to see them with him soon, and the idea of it is freaking me out. His mom is lovely, and she seemed to like me, but I am not sure what his father thinks of me. He has never really been a fan. I don’t know if his opinion of me will change now that Bella is out of the picture.

I refuse to think about it all right now. All I want to do is see my best friend, spend time with her while I can, and eventually share the good news with her. Ezra isn’t ready to tell his parents about Bubs, and I am okay with that. I honestly believe if it were possible, he’d want to keep it between us until the baby comes. Though I did tell him I wanted to tell Lucy, which he is fine with.

I arrive at her building and let myself in. I still have the key. I stroll inside and up to the third floor of her apartment. I knock on the door loudly and then ring the bell. If she isn’t home, I will come back later or call her later to see where she is. I wait for a moment before trying again.

A few seconds later, I hear the door unlock. I am so excited to see her. She opens it, and the second her eyes fall on me, a shocked look crosses her face.

“Did you miss me?” I beam.

“Oh, my God! Alana!” she squeals and hugs me tightly. I happily hug back, and it’s a good minute before we part.

“What are you doing here?” she gushes as she drags me inside.

“Ezra and I are visiting for a while so he can sort some things out before he moves to Scotland permanently to be with me.” I smile.

“Really? That’s amazing! Though I am a little sad too because it means you won’t move back here,” she says with a pout.

“I know, but there are too many bad memories here for both of us. Scotland is a good place for us to start our lives together. You are welcome to visit any time you want.”

She leads us to the couch to sit down.

“I can’t believe you are here, Alana. I have missed you. We should have a glass of wine to celebrate,” she says brightly.

I rest my hand on my stomach. “Um, I would, but I can’t drink right now.”

Lucy looks at me, confused, but she spots the position of my hand. “Are you pregnant?” she gasps.

I smile brightly. “Yes. I am thirteen weeks. We had our first scan last week.”

“Amazing! I am happy for you both! Congratulations!” she exclaims and hugs me again.

“Thank you. To say it was a surprise is an understatement.” I laugh.

“I bet! You are both happy with the news, though, right?”

“Yes, we are.” I smile and rub my small bump.

“You will be an incredible mom, Alana. The baby will be lucky to have you.” She smiles.

“I hope so. I am nervous. My mom passed away when I was young, so I didn’t really have one to teach me or have to look up to,” I whisper sadly.

Finding out about the baby made me think about my mom a lot. It made me wish she were here. And then there is my father. I don’t even know where he is or if he is still alive.
I love being pregnant, but it is a reminder I don’t have a family, biologically, I mean. I am creating my own now, but it still saddens me that our baby will only have one set of grandparents. I believe Ezra’s mom will be the best grandma a kid could ask for. I am not sure about his dad. He might surprise me.

“Alana, please don’t cry,” Lucy says and places her hand over mine.

I didn’t even realize I was crying. “Sorry. Hormones.” I laugh.

“I know it isn’t just that, sweetie. You are thinking about your parents. It can’t be easy, but you are making a family, Alana. You have Ezra, me, and now the little one. We aren’t going anywhere. I promise.”

“I know. I wish you were in Scotland with me, Lucy.” Yes, I have some friends in Scotland, but they don’t know me or about my past in the way Lucy does. I would’ve been a disaster without her when I broke up with Ezra. She is more like a sister than a best friend to me.

“Who knows? Maybe I will come join you there one day. Find myself a sexy Scottish man and settle down.” She giggles.

“Yes! I like the plan. You should come soon, find a husband, and we can raise our babies together.” I laugh.

“Oh, I wish it were that easy.”

“Me too!” I agree.

“I really may consider it. I don’t have much here in LA. I think a fresh start would be good for me.” Lucy is pretending now, but I know she is being serious.

“Lucy, if you want to, you are more than welcome. I can help find you a job. You're welcome to have my old apartment, as Ezra and I are looking for a new house. And I would love to have you there when the little one is born.” I smile.

“Really?” she asks, surprised.

“Yes. It would be great to have you there with me.”

Lucy smiles brightly. “Thank you. And if I do, I will be there for you and the little one if you need me. I will even babysit if you and Ezra want some sexy time.” She winks.

I laugh loudly and shake my head. “Thank you. You can let me know your thoughts on what you want to do. Ezra and I will probably be here for a month or more because he needs to find a replacement for him at work, plus sorting out his house, his visa and so forth.”

“Yay! I can’t wait to be able to hang out more with you. It gives me time to decide what I want, also!” she exclaims.

“Me too! We have lost time to make up for. But for now, get dressed! I am treating you to lunch and cocktails. Mocktails for me, of course,” I say brightly.

“Yes, ma’am, and you can fill me in on what has been going on. And I can do the same.”

Lucy rushes off to get ready. I snicker at her eagerness. I am ready for a girl's day.
