Book 2: Teaser

The vampire let his mind travel back in time when his manor was full of life. When the woman who loved more than anyone stayed in this house. Every room held a memory, and sometimes he could still see her moving gracefully around the mansion or smell her intoxicating scent.

Deep down, he knew he had taken the right decision. Ophelia was happily married to the love of her life, and they had children already. He also knew how much she loved him, but she was better without him, and that's why he let her go.

He was better without her, too. The company, the new responsibilities he had to deal with as the Vampire King, kept him busy most of the days. He rarely had time for himself to think or reminisce about the few months they had spent together. But when that happened, he imagined how his life would be with her by his side.

After all these years of watching his angel live in happiness and bliss, he craved the same for himself, too. He didn't want to live eternally alone. He wanted a Queen to rule with him, by his side. Yet, he was sure he wasn't capable of loving another woman ever again. His heart belonged to Ophelia, forever- or so he thought…

"You're thinking of her, aren't you?" a deep voice made him cock an eyebrow.

Alexander put an end to his train of thought and turned around to face the unwelcome visitor. He took in the black-dressed figure, and an unsettling feeling built up inside his chest. It wasn't fear since there wasn't anything that could scare him anymore. He had a hunch that something terrible was going to happen next…

"Who are you, and to whom are you referring?" Alexander asked, his voice void of any emotion.

"Is it the witch or your mate?" the man countered back, removing his black hood.

A small frown formed on Alexander's face. He had no mate; vampires didn't have mates. And how on earth did he know about Ophelia? They had been apart for more than ten years…

Alexander studied the unknown man carefully. He seemed to be in his early fifties and had dark hair with some grey strands on his temples. His pitch-black eyes scanned the vampire from head to toe and held no fear in them. That man had intruded into the Vampire King's mansion and wasn't even worried about the consequences!?

There was only one possible explanation to that; he must be a supernatural.

"Last time I checked, vampires have no mates," Alexander retorted.

"Oh right! My bad! Let me rephrase that; you miss the witch while your mate is longing for you…" the man replied with a crooked smile.

Alexander almost lost his temper with the cocky tone of that unknown man.

"I didn't catch your name," the Vampire King snarled.

"My name is irrelevant, but we're going to collaborate in the future, so you can call me Darius," the man replied this time.

That name seemed familiar to Alexander, but he couldn't recall where he had heard it before. It also looked like he belonged to a different era, but last time he checked, time travel was impossible…

"Well, Darius, why would I want to help you?"

"Because you'd want to save your mate…"

"And who's the one I'm mated with?" Alexander asked, crossing his arms in front of his chest. This whole situation was getting on his nerves already.

"Alpha Blackwood's daughter, of course. An alpha she-wolf must have a powerful mate," the man named Darius replied, smirking.

The Vampire King knew all too well the one and only Alpha Blackwood. He was the werewolves' leader, and he had helped them defeat Marcus. Moreover, Alexander had signed a truce with him more than ten years ago. And that was the last time he had heard from him. During all these years, vampires and werewolves were behaving and hadn't provoked each other.

However, this situation was going to be tricky.

It wasn't heard of a werewolf to be mated with a vampire before. And even if there was such a case, the couple was doomed to be separated…

"I don't care about her, and I doubt her father would approve of that bond."

"Nothing can stop her once she finds out her mate, Alexander. You're the only one able to reject her…"

"She won't ever meet me. She can keep searching for her mate eternally. I don't give a fuck! Now, get out of my house," the Vampire King hissed, showing his fangs.

"Easy there. I don't think you want to anger me…" Darius warned him.

Alexander rolled his eyes and took in a deep breath, trying to calm down his anger.

"You came unannounced into my house, you're telling me a bunch of bullshits, and now you dare to threaten me?" Alex growled, barely holding himself from launching to that man.

"I'll kill her and her family!" Darius retorted, boring his black eyes into Alex's grey ones.

The Vampire King froze instantly. He had a feeling this time he wasn't referring to that she-wolf nor her family.

"That's right; I'll kill Ophelia and her whole family if you dare to defy me…"
