Chapter 31 Chapter 0031
•DOMINIC•
"What did you find on him, Zayne?" I asked as I dragged a chair in front of Matteo. He was groaning, trying to wiggle himself free from the cable ties around his wrists.
There was also a tape across his mouth, so he couldn't scream and draw attention to the private room we were in.
We could hear the noise of the party from the other side of the hallway. No one would ever find us, if Aveline’s smart ass didn't follow behind us.
But we cleared the coast before we went inside the private storage room.
"He's from the Crimson Howlers pack and his father is the Beta," he answered, scrolling through his tablet. "He's pretty much clean."
"Clean?" I leaned my head toward Matteo’s and squinted my eyes. "There must be something about him that we can use so he will leave Aveline alone."
"He's 20."
I groaned as I got off the chair and circled him. I didn't like the thought of him near Aveline, putting his hands on her as if she belonged to him.
"My father is Alexander Frostbane," I said as I stopped and looked at him. "If I see you near Aveline again, I wouldn't mind our pack going against yours."
I took off his tape and he breathed as he looked up at me. "You can't choose for Aveline," he sneered. "Besides, you already have a mate, Dominic. What do you think Miss Blackthorne would feel knowing her fiancé is fighting for another girl with me?"
My jaw tightened as I looked at him. My fists clenched on my sides. He had such freedom to talk freely as if he knew everything that was happening in my life.
He knew nothing.
Aveline was mine and she belonged to no one but me.
"Didn't Aveline tell you she's my mate?" I asked as I walked toward him, and clasped my hands in front of me. "She should've told you instead of using you to make me jealous."
He swallowed and didn't answer.
"Oh man," I sighed as I sat on the chair again. "She didn't tell you, did she? All this time, you thought she wanted you? If I were you, I would ask myself why she kissed me so abruptly at the cafeteria in the morning."
"You don't know anything about Aveline and me" he answered, snarling. "She wouldn't kiss me just to spite you."
"I know that you are staying away from her," I said as I grabbed him by his throat and squeezed. "You are the Beta’s son, Matteo, there's nothing you can do to me about my mate."
"Dom, I think we have company," Zayne muttered as we heard footsteps passing by outside the door.
It sounded as if two lost girls were trying to find their way back to the party, but their footsteps eventually grew distant.
When I was sure they were gone, I got up from the chair and told Zayne to let Matteo go. I hoped he would be a good boy and not tell Aveline everything when they talked.
When he was free, he leaned toward me, and we looked eye to eye for a moment before he spoke.
"My father is the Beta of Crimson Howlers and the one who led the pack warriors to fight against your pack and returned victorious," he said as he closed the gap between us. "Or don't you remember the tragic loss of your pack five years ago? I still remember the day as if it were yesterday."
My chest heaved and I wished to yank him against the wall for talking however he wanted about my pack, but I restrained myself.
"I do remember that day as well, because your father lost half his pack, and instead of restricting, he sneaked on our warriors and poisoned their drinks so they wouldn't be able to shift. And don't answer that. We both know that's the strategy you have been using for years to win your battles."
"My father is a—"
"Get him out of my sight, Zayne," I said as I gestured to the door. "If I see him with Aveline again, there will be a war."
Matteo didn't say a word as he walked out with Zayne. I stood behind the door for a moment, and took a deep breath, trying so hard to hold myself from walking out the door and yanking Matteo to the floor.
I couldn't get the picture of him and Aveline kissing off my mind.
Without a second thought, I walked out of the room and went to the dorm building. I walked straight to Kaila's room and knocked.
It didn't take a while before he opened the door.
'Are you sure about this, Dom?' Ryder’s voice came at the back of my mind. 'Things could get way more complicated.'
I didn't answer him as I pushed Kaila into her room and closed the door behind me.
