Chapter 55

VIVIAN POV

"What? Why the eye, I didn't do anything," I said, glaring at Kian. His piercing gaze made me feel uneasy, like he could see right through me.

Mira stepped in, her voice soft and calming. "Come on, Mother, let me escort you to your room."

"Go, Mom," Kian said firmly, his eyes never leaving mine. "Mira, take her inside. You both help each other out, either way, just go, I am exhausted."

Mira nodded and gently took Martha’s arm, leading themselves away. But noticed she did not say a word, turned out she wanted to act victim in front of Kian.

As Mira and Martha disappeared from view, Kian turned to me, his eyes filled with concern. "Vivian, can you be a little more careful?" he asked, his voice laced with a hint of frustration.

I looked down at my feet, feeling a twinge of guilt. "It’s nothing, I am fine." I said, waving my hand dismissively.

But Kian wasn't having it. He strode towards me, his long legs eating up the distance. Before I knew it, he had scooped me up in his arms, carrying me upstairs like a child.

"Hey Kian, don't make me fall!" I exclaimed, smiling.

Kian's voice was deep and husky as he replied, "You won't fall, just hold on tight."

I looked up at him, my eyes locking with his. For a moment, the tension between us palpable.

"What?" Kian asked, his gaze never wavering as he focused on the stairs.

I smiled, feeling a flutter in my chest. "Nothing," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Kian raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. He just kept climbing, his arms holding me securely.

As we reached the top of the stairs, Kian set me down, his hands lingering on my waist. I felt a spark of electricity at his touch, and my heart skipped a beat.

"Vivian," he said, his voice low and husky. "We need to talk."

I nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation.

But as I looked into his eyes, I saw something there that gave me hope. A glimmer of love, of passion, of connection.

Maybe, just maybe, we could work through our issues. Maybe we could find our way back to each other.

"Okay," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Kian nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "Okay," he repeated.

“Take things easy with yourself in this mansion, dont get hurt, because I won’t be around for a while” he said.

“Where are you going?” I asked.

He looked at me for a while without giving me an answer.

Then he spoke up “I will be in one of my hotel, I cant stay here”. He said.

I smiled “you have no reason to leave just because this mansion is given to me, its mine but I am giving it back to you” I said and brought out few papers from the wardrobe. “Have it, I don’t need it” I said handing over the mansion papers to him.

He smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I don't want either, it's yours, so take it," he said, handing the papers back to me.

I took them back. But then he added, "I can't stay here any longer, my mom and Mira can stay here, but I cannot."

I looked deep into his eyes, searching for answers. He must have been pressured by his mother, I thought.

But then he handed me his black card. "Use this whenever you want," he said, his voice casual.

I looked at the card in his hand and smiled. "I don't need that, keep it," I said, feeling a sense of pride.

He looked confused, his eyebrows furrowed in surprise. "What type of lady would reject a black card?" he asked, his voice laced with amusement.

I laughed sheepishly, feeling a sense of mischief. "What's the matter with rejecting a black card because I have one?" I said.

Kian smirked, I guess he doesn’t believe that I could own one, he dropped his card on the bed and checked his write watch.

“Time is running out, I should go” he said and hugged me.

I knew things aren’t going smoothly between us yet, but I couldn’t help but pity him. He has so much going on with him.

"Drive safe, eat well, don't sleep late," I said, feeling a sense of concern for his well-being.

He smiled and nodded, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I will," he said, his voice filled with reassurance.

And with that, he turned and left,  I couldn't see him off, but I walked him down through the door and waited until he was about to drive off.

As I watched him get into his car, I felt a pang of sadness. I didn't want him to go, didn't want him to leave me behind. But I knew I had to let him go, had to give him the space he needed.

As he started the engine and began to drive away, I called out to him. "Kian!"

He stopped the car and looked back at me, his eyes questioning.

"Be careful," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

He nodded and smiled, and then he was gone, driving off into the distance.

I stood there for a long time, watching the empty road, feeling a sense of emptiness inside. But as I turned to go back inside.

As I stepped into the mansion, Martha whistled which made me stop, she slowly walked towards me.

“You have Kian wrapped in your palms right?” she asked

I chuckled “What kind of mother are you” I said.

She didnt give me a response but instead she gave me a slap. I touched my cheek, my gaze fixed on her, shock and anger written all over my face.

But then, without thinking, I returned the slap back to her. She flinched, her hands flying to her cheek, just like I had done.

"Do you want another one?" I asked, my hands still raised, my voice firm.

She looked at me, her eyes flashing with anger, but also a hint of fear. Then I slowly moved towards her while she kept moving backward in shock and fear.

"I am wondering why you have been quiet ever since the day the properties were shared," I said, my voice laced with accusation. "And it scares me a lot. Because I know how evil and ruthless you are."

She took a step back, her eyes narrowing. "How dare you slap me?" she spat.

"How dare you lay a finger on me too?” I yelled at her in anger.

“Just because you are Kian’s mom or because you are older than me doesn’t give you the right to lay that your filthy hands on me," I yelled, my voice echoing across the hallway. "I know you're capable of doing whatever it takes to get what you want even if it means hurting the child you gave birth to, And that's what scares me the most."

She sneered at me, her face twisted in anger.
