Chapter 95 95
Denzel’s POV
Gordon asked me to walk with him to my car. He said he needed a private conversation, and the seriousness in his tone made me curious.
We settled into the car while Rayon stood guard outside.
“I’m sorry to trouble you like this,” Gordon began. “I know you have a lot on your plate, but I need to talk to you about my niece the woman you married.”
I frowned, watching him closely.
“I know I’ve never visited her or even spoken to her. Perhaps I should have. But I’m not good at building relationships especially broken ones.” He exhaled heavily and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I wouldn’t be saying any of this if Queen Rochelle hadn’t gone this far. If King Jamar were truly alive and ruling, I would have kept silent. But I can’t anymore. I know you love her. I know you’ll protect her. That’s why I trust you with this.”
I listened carefully. I knew he was about to confirm what I already suspected and reveal much more.
“My sister wasn’t the monster people paint her to be,” he continued. “That was Rochelle’s narrative. Danisha was gentle. Kind. A joy to be around.”
He paused before continuing.
“She was sent to treat King Jamar’s father, who was ruling at the time. She was only nineteen. Fate was cruel to her she was mated to Jamar, who was already married to Rochelle.”
His jaw tightened.
“I warned her to reject him. He wouldn’t let her. They began an affair, and she became pregnant. By then, Jamar had taken the throne and planned to divorce Rochelle. But before he could, my sister was framed for attempted murder.”
I stiffened.
“By law, he was required to sentence her to death once she was found guilty. Instead, he spared her exiled her from the Lycan Kingdom and sent her home.”
He looked away.
“She returned to our pack, and I welcomed her. Then Rochelle sent assassins. To protect her, I claimed I had banished my sister that she was likely dead. They believed me because they never found her.”
His voice grew heavier.
“I secretly owned land in the woods of Grey, near the outlands. There was a small cottage there. I sent her to live there and took care of her needs. I begged her to stay hidden and she did. For years.”
He sighed.
“Eventually, Rochelle’s hunt slowed, and Danisha could move about more freely. But she never contacted me or came near the pack. She knew the Lycans were watching me. That’s why my borders were always crawling with them. Rochelle was relentless.”
He shook his head.
“I tried to reach the King to warn him about his queen through every channel I could. Every message was intercepted. Eventually, I gave up.”
His voice cracked.
“Knowing my sister and her child were alive kept me going. Until that day at the hearing when I learned Lycans had killed her. I was devastated. But I was grateful Venessa escaped. And that she became your wife.”
He inhaled deeply.
“I’m telling you all this because I want you to protect her.”
Then he hesitated.
“Venessa is King Jamar’s daughter the only heir to the Lycan throne. If the King doesn’t return, it would be my honor to fight beside you to secure her birthright. It’s the least I can do after failing my sister.”
His eyes burned with conviction.
“If the Lycans learn Jamar’s blood runs in her veins, they won’t attack her. Rochelle will lose support and much of her army. She may control the Beta, but the Gamma and Delta families will follow Venessa.”
He leaned closer.
“Please, Denzel. I’m begging you. Help my niece claim what is hers. I despise war, but Rochelle will cause one. And if she doesn’t, Fabian or Donovan will. But if there’s an heir, there will be no throne to fight over.”
He fell silent.
I acted stunned.
“All this time, we believed you exiled your sister,” I said.
He nodded.
“It was necessary. The pack was under constant watch. Cutting ties was the only way to save her and everyone else. If she had stayed, the Lycans would have slaughtered us, and King Jamar would never have known.”
He scoffed bitterly.
“As you’ve learned, your greatest ally can also be your most dangerous enemy. With the Beta loyal to the queen, countless atrocities were committed without the King’s knowledge. Sometimes, I even suspect those two are sleeping together but that’s speculation.”
I nodded.
“I’ll do everything I can,” I promised.
He studied me for a moment, clearly weighing something.
“Go ahead,” I said. “Ask.”
He smiled faintly.
“I was hoping you’d bring her to visit soon so I can finally see her.”
I returned his smile.
“I will. I promise.”
He thanked me and stepped out of the car.
Rayon climbed in beside me, unusually quiet. I knew he’d heard everything.
“Is it true, Alpha?” he asked.
I laughed.
“You couldn’t hold it in, could you?”
He shook his head.
“Yes,” I said.
His eyes widened as he started the engine.
“I knew it. I knew it. You could see it in her face. Who would’ve thought she was the Lycan princess?” He laughed in disbelief. “How did King Jamar take it?”
“He’s overjoyed,” I said.
Then my smile faded.
