Chapter 52

Ana woke up disoriented. She looked around and noticed the stark white walls and the fluorescent light. This wasn't a room she recognized.

She closed her eyes then opened them again with sheet effort. That was when she looked to her side. There was an IV stuck in her hand. She lifted the hand gingerly and winced. It hurt. So she put it back down and continued her visual exploration of the room.

It was bare. And cold. Like any other hospital room. But there was a door in the room. Ana assumed (and correctly) that it was a bathroom.

She turned her gaze upwards and was stunned to see Jack, sleeping in a cot that didn't seem too comfortable. She widened her eyes and gasped.

He looked tired. Even more tired than she felt. The bags under his eyes were prominent and Ana felt like smoothing that crease on his forehead.

"Jack," she called out as loud as she could.

"Five more minutes Ana,"he grumbled, then turned on his side.

Ana chuckled, getting some kind of glimpse as to what their future life was going to look like if they continued their relationship.

All of a sudden, Jack's eyes popped open. It was like he had come to the realization that he wasn't home, in his comfortable bed, cuddling Ana. He was in the hospital and Ana, his darling Ana, had been unconscious for some time.

He sat up then got down from the bed and walked towards Ana with an urgency that filled her with some sort of calm. He had missed her. That much was obvious and she was happy about it.

"Mel?" he said softly, reaching out with his left hand. He touched her soft cheek delicately as if to make sure she was real and not an illusion. "Ana," he said brokenly then kissed her forehead.

"You don't know how scared we were," Jack said urgently, then lifted up her hand and placed a kiss in the center of her palm, then on each of her fingers. "You looked so small. Forgive me. I was so so stupid."

"Jack wait wait," Ana said, frowning. "Who's we?"

"Landon and I," Jack responded and kept holding onto her hand with both of his. He never wanted to let go.

Ana frowned. She had so many questions but she didn't get the chance to start asking them. Jack had already rung the bell for the nurse to come in and she had just walked in.

Ana looked at her. She was lovely but it seemed she was shy. She couldn't meet anyone's eyes and she walked straight to the other side of the bed.

"I'm just going to check your vitals then I'll go call the doctor," she said in a soft voice. Ana felt like cooing. The woman was extremely adorable. But she was very skittish.

"Sir, can you– can you step back for a moment?" she asked Jack, not bringing herself to look into his eyes. Ana met Jack's eyes over the woman's shape and they exchanged worried glances.

"What's your name?" Ana asked softly as the nurse went on with whatever she was doing. Ah yes. Checking vitals.

When Ana asked the question though, she froze. She looked up at Ana and said, "P-primJada. But you can call me Jada."

"You have a beautiful name," Ana said. She didn't know why she was so set on being nice to this nurse. But the woman seemed terrified. And Ana didn't want to frighten her even more.

"T-thank y-you," Jada replied, averted her eyes. She put a small hand on Ana's neck to check her pulse. Then shook her head and took Ana's free hand. She felt for the pulse then a small smile took over her face. She was satisfied.

"I'm Ana," Ana said when Jada made no move to ask her own name.

Jada blushed so much that the rosy tint was visible on her dark skinned cheeks. "I know Miss. I'm the one who took care of you since you were brought here," she said with no stutter this time.

"Oh," Ana said, feeling foolish. "That's good then. Uhm, when was I brought here?" she asked, looking at Jada intently, as if telling her you have no choice but to answer.

"That's enough Ana. Leave the poor girl do her job," Jack drawled, coming to stand next to the nurse who instantly became frazzled.

As soon as Jack stood next to her, Jada started fidgeting. Then she moved and walked towards the door, stopped, then said, "I'll go call the doctor now," then left.

"She's so adorable isn't she?" Ana asked, looking at Jack. He shook his head and placed a kiss on Ana's forehead.

"I thought I lost you. I don't care much about adorable nurses. Only deliciously pregnant writers," he said, his tone coming out a bit muffled cause he had buried his face into her bosom.

Ana felt something wet touch her skin and she knew immediately that Jack was crying. She didn't say a word, just stroked his hair until he lifted his head.

"Thank you for coming back to me Ana. Thank you for coming back to me and giving me one last chance to prove to you just how much I love you and just how much you mean to me," Jack said sincerely, his eyes still misty.

Ana looked at him then she pulled down his head and placed a sweet kiss on his lips. "Thank you for finding me."

At that moment the doctor walked in, so she reluctantly let go of Jack. He walked away a little and stood reverently behind the doctor. He didn't want to miss anything. But he didn't want to get in the doctor's way either.

At that moment, he pulled out his phone and walked a bit further. He called Landon and waited for the man to pick. For the week that Ana had been unconscious, he had gotten to know Landon. He respected the man and he was very sure that the feeling was mutual.

Both of them had been scared when Ana had fainted right in front of them. They had spent sleepless nights waiting for her to even show a sign that she would wake up. Even if it was in a month.

Landon would have been here if not for his demanding schedule. Jack was CEO so he could leave easily and any issue that came up, he could deal with through correspondence with his personal assistant.

"Geralds," Landon answered finally. Okay yes they were on good terms now. They respected each other. But that didn't mean that they were best if friends either.

It was still cordial with them very cordial. Jack knew that this was his last chance with Ana. He couldn't fuck up again. He hated seeing her hurt and looking at her hurt when he knew he had put her in that state hurt even worse.

"She's awake," Jack said shortly. He didn't need to go into any details. He knew the man was going to try as much as possible to be here.

Landon's breath stopped suddenly. "What?" he asked, like he hadn't heard correctly. They both knew he had heard but he was just trying to process everything.

"Yes Geralds. She woke up not long ago," Jack drawled. This man was confident but he became a stuttering mess when it came to Ana. Jack guessed the same could be said about him as well.

"I'm on my way," was all Landon said then he hung up. Jack shook his head at the rudeness but he couldn't blame him. He was pretty sure he would have reacted in the same way if not worse.

Jack had fulfilled his duty so he went back and stood next to the doctor. He was looking at everything the man was doing. Jack was the extremely jealous sort so he was not happy to see that the person attending to Ana was a young and daresay handsome man.

"Is everything okay doctor?" he asked, making sure to tower over the attractive doctor so he could look down at him.

The doctor was a bit startled as he looked up at the lean man who was staring at him with granite in his eyes.

"Um yes sir. Her vitals are stable and the baby is alright as well. There are no complications," the doctor said as stably as he could looking up at a giant.

Ana stifled a giggle and shook her head at Jack's antics. This man was doing his job and the fool thought it was a completion for the highest display of manliness.

"Let the poor doctor do his job Jack," Ana called out, rolling her eyes.

"Better not try anything. You won't leave this room in a piece if you do," Jack threatened but stepped away.

"Would it um satisfy you sir to know I'm gay?" the doctor asked, looking scared.

"No," Jack said plainly and Ana had to hide her laugh with a cough. She had never really been exposed to this side of Jack and she had to admit she was loving it.

"Oh," the man said. It was obvious he had never had to deal with someone like Jack.

"Don't mind him Doctor. He's kidding," Ana reassured the man, shooting Jack a stern look.

"I'm not though," Jack grumbled but shut up when Ana shot him another warning look.

The doctor took in a deep breath and lifted Ana's robe. He stared at Jack as he was doing this, as if to make sure the other man wasn't going to jump him suddenly.

Jack just clenched his jaw. He didn't say anything else. It would have been useless anyways. All the man was trying to was to do his job. And without him, Ana was probably not going to get better.

Besides, he knew Ana would get mad at him if he frightened the person. So he looked away and decided to concentrate on the man's words.

"We will wheel in an ultrasound machine in a couple of minutes to check on the baby. But everything is okay with you ma'am," the man said with a warm smile.

Ana smiled back and watched the man as he left the room. Then she turned her gaze on Jack who was looking like a petulant child. She laughed a little and shook her head. Jack was such a baby sometimes. It was almost like someone had taken his favorite toy away from him.

"Oh come on Jack. He was just doing his job," Ana laughed. Jack shook his head and grumbled under his breath.

"Stop acting like such a baby," Ana continued and Jack shook his head.

"Why did he have to touch you like that though," he asked petulantly, almost like he was actually pissed the man had to touch Ana.

"Because he's my doctor," she said incredulously. "Besides, he said he was gay. Jack come on."

Jack walked reluctantly towards the bed then sat next to her. He sighed and held her hand in his. "I'm sorry. I just love you. And I know I fuck everything up but I don't want to lose you."

Ana's eyes misted. "I love you too Jack. And you don't fuck everything up. I'm still here aren't I? I could have decided to leave a long time ago."

"And I'll forever thank the gods that you were stupid enough to forgive me," Jack said with a heavenward glance.

Ana laughed. "You didn't even give me a choice, you big oaf. You made me fall in love with you and you expected me to leave you," she said. Jack smiled down at her and placed a kiss in the center of her palm.

"I'm lucky to have you," Jack whispered reverently then kissed Ana on the lips. It was a soft kiss and there was no tongue or anything

As Jack looked up and was about to say something else, he saw a foreboding shadow at the door.
