Chapter 200 Kidnapped

Chapter 200 Kidnapped
“I am pregnant.”

Those were the first words Brie whispered to Amber as soon as she arrived at the restaurant days after she and Alex had returned to New York. The house staff back at the Sterling Manor had dutifully taken care of her so much so that it drastically reduced her nausea. But just as she arrived back in the city, her sickness got even fiercer. It was only then that she decided to go for a complete check at the hospital. The moment she heard the news from the doctor, she was elated. How could she have missed this? The morning sickness, the tiredness.

Amber’s delighted voice rang in the air. “I can’t believe this. Oh Brie, I’m so happy for you.”

Brie gave a nervous laugh, her hands twisting together. “I know, I know. I just found out. I haven’t even told Alex yet. He had travelled on a business trip this morning. I just… I needed to tell someone.”

Amber’s chair scraped against the floor as she shot upright, her voice rising in a delighted scream, hugging Brie. “Oh, my God! Brie, I’m so happy for you!”

Brie’s cheeks flushed, her smile trembling. “I can’t wait to tell Alex when he comes home. Oh my goodness… we’re expecting a baby.”

Amber beamed, her joy infectious. “I’m going to be a godmother! We need to go shopping right away.”

Brie laughed, rising to follow her. “Come on, it’s still early. We don’t even know the sex of the baby yet.”

They chatted animatedly for a long time before deciding to go shopping for baby items regardless, after Amber’s persuasion. Their laughter mingled with the city’s bustle as they stepped out of the restaurant.

They were so engrossed in talking about baby things, discussing baby clothes and nursery colors, when a sudden movement jolted Brie, pinning her to the ground. What followed was the sound of a gunshot.

Brie let out a frightened scream, her eyes closed instinctively as her back pressed to the ground until, after a while, realizing she was still breathing, opened her eyes. Lewis's body shielded her.

In the crowd, someone screamed. “Gun—She’s holding a gun!”

Brie’s head snapped up while Lewis still tried his best to shield Brie with his body. Across the street, a figure in a hooded sweatshirt stood with a gun raised. The hood concealed most of her face, but Brie knew instantly. There was no mistaking her.

Sienna.

Just then, someone from the crowd subdued Sienna about the same time Lewis groaned. Blood seeped through his chest, staining his shirt crimson. Brie’s breath caught, horror twisting her features.

“Lewis!” she cried.

‘Is he okay?” Amber, who had been hiding behind a car, came out and hurried over, pressing a hand on his injury while Brie fumbled with her phone.

“Brie—Brie focus.” Amber’s shaky voice tried to give Brie strength as her hands trembled while she called the ambulance. However, a sudden commotion followed, a van arrived, and it grabbed Brie. She felt a slight pressure on the back of her neck, and before her vision blurred, she heard Amber’s loud cries from a distance.

Some hours later, Brie’s eyelashes fluttered against her pale skin. She opened her eyes in a panic, seeing that she was in an airplane. Panicked, she opened the window and, to her shock, realized she was airborne. She rushed out of the room where she had been resting and saw some men. One of them approached her, bowing before her slightly, then handed her a phone.

Brie, confused, took the phone and brought it to her ear. Her knuckles turned white when she heard the voice behind the line.

Brad.

“Where are you taking me? You can’t kidnap me.” She fumed.

“I just did. I don’t like the idea of having someone else take what’s mine.”

“You can’t do this! This is a crime. Alex will look for me. Not just him, but my family. Do you know what would happen to you once they find out you kidnapped me? Think about this.”

But the more she spoke, Brad didn’t say a word. She took the phone away from her ear, seeing that the call was still on, and screamed into the receiver. “Say something!”

Her frustration grew so much that she screamed further, hurling profanities into the line until her voice turned hoarse. She pleaded, cried, and cursed at Brad, but he was only silent. He didn’t even end the call. He only listened. When she was exhausted, he simply spoke one sentence. “Be a good girl; we’ll see each other soon.”
