Chapter 823 Evelyn Is Pregnant

Chapter 823 Evelyn Is Pregnant

"What do you mean?" William shot back.

Thalia raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"

"You just wanted to see if I was out looking for men, didn't you?"

William's face darkened at Thalia's words. "Don't say things like that at home anymore."

Thalia snorted. "You might as well just say don't say it in front of your son."

"I've already dragged both of us down. You think I'd spare your son?"

As Thalia finished speaking, the car pulled up at Mistwood Hill. She pushed the door open, got out, and slammed it shut, all in one smooth motion.

The couple entered one after the other. Before they could even change their shoes, loud crying filled the house.

"What's wrong?" William asked.

"He's been fussy about sleeping tonight. The night nurse is trying to calm him down."

Fallon handed over a hand towel. William grabbed it, wiped his hands carelessly, and handed it back to her.

His steps rushing upstairs couldn't hide his urgency. Thalia, on the other hand, leisurely changed her shoes at the entrance.

She asked for a glass of warm water and sipped it slowly.

Her casual manner made her look exactly like a stepmother.

"Mrs. Brown, aren't you going up to check?"

"Check what?" Thalia asked, glancing at the second floor with complete composure. "Just wait."

"Wait for what?" Fallon was confused.

But her confusion barely landed when Grace came out of the nursery holding the baby, her face dark, her tone carrying anger. "Thalia, get your ass up here."

"I didn't smoke or drink."

"Then control your husband," Grace glared at William with frustration.

The curse words reached her lips but she swallowed them back. If this were her own son, she would've already smacked him.

They're parents now, and coming home late at night is one thing.

But reeking of smoke and alcohol and going straight to the baby?

You have a child and you don't take care of him properly, did you bring him into this world just to fill space?

Fallon was stunned, staring at Thalia.

"Mrs. Brown, how did you know Mr. Brown would get scolded when he went up?"

Thalia snorted, set down her glass, and spoke leisurely and casually. "Who hasn't been scolded before?"

In the living room, the sofa that William had moved out, had been moved back in two months at Thalia's strong insistence.

As soon as she stepped in, she saw William's jacket thrown on it.

The sound of running water came from the bathroom.

In just about ten minutes, the man quickly showered and came out, put on his pajamas, and headed straight for the nursery.

Thalia had put on makeup before going out that day and had been in a crowd, so naturally she couldn't go near the baby covered in makeup and perfume.

At eleven o'clock, after washing up and blow-drying her hair, she came out to see William holding the baby, leaning against the single sofa in the bedroom. The little guy was covered with a thin blanket, lying on his shoulder.

"Why did you bring him over?"

"He was really fussy," William replied in a low voice.

"Where's the nanny?" Thalia asked again.

"She couldn't handle it."

Thalia was speechless.

Close to midnight, when the little guy finally fell into a deep sleep, William carried him back to the nursery. When he returned after settling the baby, he saw the ragdoll cat had somehow snuck in and was sleeping on its back by Thalia's feet, sprawled out and snoring loudly.

"Asleep?" A hot body pressed against her from behind. Thalia murmured drowsily.

William made a sound of agreement and pulled her into his arms.

"I'm joining a production next week, filming a short series, about ten episodes. It'll take two months on and off."

"Where?"

"The film studio."

"Mm," William nuzzled her neck, wanting to do something naughty, but sensing Thalia was drowsy and confused.

He forced himself to hold back.

"You're not going to say anything?"

"What do you want me to say?"

Thalia rolled over wrapped in the blanket. William lifted his hand from her waist, afraid of pressing on her.

"Nothing!" It was best if he didn't say anything. Even if he did, she was still going out to pursue her career.

"If I told you not to go, would you stay?"

"No."

"There you go. Go after what you want. There are so many people at home taking care of the baby, they don't need you."

"I thought you'd want me to stay home."

The man stroked her back, coaxing her. "Silly girl, just remember to come home."

"You might not believe this, but Harry's female secretary has disappeared. Elara's been looking for her for months and can't find her."

"I guessed as much," William stood by the window looking at the sunset emerging through the gaps between the high-rises across the way.

"So what are you planning to do? Not moving into the Essence building?"

"What's the rush? If we're going in, we're going in steady and sure."

Thalia will be starting production next week. If he got busy too, his son would become an orphan, with both parents never home.

Busy for months straight.

On the other end of the phone, Elijah seemed to have just finished a meeting and was heading to his office. William could faintly hear colleagues greeting him.

"What are you thinking?"

"Check the hospitals for any medical records of Harry's secretary, focus on maternity hospitals."

"You mean?" Elijah closed his office door, sighing inwardly. "That's impossible, right? At his age, retirement age, he doesn't have that ability anymore, does he?"

"He might not have the ability, but science does. Desperate times call for desperate measures. If he can think of finding even a disgrace like me left outside, what can't he think of? A man who's spent his whole life climbing to the top, about to retire, he won't let his life have any regrets. For that generation, the pursuit of descendants exceeds the pursuit of power."

"I'll check first, wait for my news." Elijah said quickly.

And it really was quick.

He got the call that evening when he got home.

In the Mistwood Hill living room, Thalia was sitting on the carpet holding the baby, teasing the cat. The little guy was four months old, babbling as he watched the cat jumping around, absolutely delighted.

Harper sat on the sofa, watching the scene from a distance.

Thalia held the cat teaser, and seeing William come in, spoke to the little guy in a sweet voice. "Oh! Daddy's here!"

Hearing the door open, Fallon came up to greet him, took his briefcase. She was about to get his slippers when he raised his hand to stop her.

The man who had just entered went back out with his phone.

Seeing him leave, Thalia made a sound. "No daddy anymore!"

William heard this and his eyebrow twitched.

He wanted to deal with her, but Elijah's call was also important.

In the yard, the cold wind was bleak. Days of dropping temperatures had made Emerald City bitterly cold.

"Go ahead."

"You were right. Seven months along, getting prenatal checkups at a private hospital."

William said, "Send me the information. I'll contact you after I look at it."

On the other end, Elijah made a sound of agreement and reminded him, "Don't stay up too late."

"Evelyn keeping you on a tight leash?"

"She's pregnant she just found out last week. Her temper has gotten really bad."

William felt amused, teasing with a half-smile. "Good luck."

"I'll need to ask you for advice later."

"Happy to help."

"If Ms. Smith has time, please have her come keep Evelyn company."

"I'll let her know."

"Thanks."
