Chapter 488: Is William Playing with Women?
"What's your purpose in asking this? If the thing between Thalia and William is real, shouldn't you be relieved? One less woman competing with you for your husband. And if it's not real, with Thalia caught up in scandals, given how much you dislike her, you should still be happy."
"Either way it's something to be happy about, so why are you digging into the truth?"
As Evelyn spoke, a juicy bit of gossip surfaced in her mind. “Speaking of which, I heard Eleanor bought you a wedding house in Emerald City Sunset Grove Villas?”
She leaned in, eyes locked on Elowen. “Do you know who lives in the main building there?”
Elowen had a bad feeling, sensing there was nothing good coming.
"Thalia lives there."
“Exactly. All your scheming and sneaking around, and you still come out looking worse than Thalia. Imagine the humiliation if that got around."
"You!"
Evelyn shook her head and stepped back, watching Elowen storm off in anger.
In the parking lot, the car had just finished backing into a spot. Thalia was removing the blanket from herself when she saw Elowen come out of the elevator, fuming with rage.
“Wasn’t she supposed to be stuck in Regal City? How is she back already?”
“Is Regal City really that hard to escape?”
Thalia ascended, hat pulled low and mask on. The instant she shoved the door open, Evelyn looked up, feigning mild surprise. “What a coincidence. Did you run into Elowen downstairs?”
"I did, why?"
"Nothing much, just told her that the wedding house Eleanor bought her isn't as nice as your own place. She's probably gone back to fight with Eleanor about it now."
Thalia shed her coat, hanging it neatly, and ts ked under her breath. “Eleanor must owe her a blood debt from a past life.”
Near eight that evening, the pair emerged from the spa. Stepping off the elevator, Thalia felt eyes on her back. She whirled—empty hallway.
Heading for the car, she halted again.
"What's wrong?"
“Someone’s following us. I can feel it.”
Evelyn scanned the bustling shopping mall garage. Crowds everywhere, no one standing out.
She looked around but didn't see anyone suspicious.
“You sure? Maybe it’s just paranoia.”
“Maybe. Let’s get out of here.”
"Back to Mistwood Hill?"
“No—the Smith Villa. Mom issued an ultimatum: come home or get disowned.”
Grace had been in a bad mood lately, asking her to come home multiple times, but she'd been filming.
Finally had some free time today.
If she didn't go back now, she'd be in trouble.
At the Smith Villa, Grace had obviously just gotten home too, sitting on the sofa holding coffee. Seeing her return, she just shot her a cold look. "You still know to come back? Still remember you have a mother?"
“Of course I do. What’s with the attitude?” Thalia glided over, all sweetness, and gently clasped Grace’s arm, giving it a playful shake. “Come on, who upset you this time?”
“Spill it. I’ll deal with her.”
“Really deal with her?” Grace arched a brow.
Thalia nodded eagerly. “Absolutely, for real.”
Grace bent down and pulled out a document from under the coffee table. Thalia opened it, somewhat puzzled.
The title—“Company Financial Report”—made her lips twitch.
She’d jinxed herself. Too late to backpedal.
“You stirred up that scandal with William, and the stock tanked for a solid week. Nine-figure market value wipeout.”
"I was wondering who upset you! Turns out it's that jerk William. Just wait, I'll call him over right now. Such a clueless husband - one of these days I'll replace him." Thalia got up cursing while taking her phone upstairs, avoiding Grace's anger while calling William to come take the heat.
The line picked up. Expecting William, Thalia barked, “Get over here and face your lecture.”
"Ms. Smith, it's me."
“Angelina? Where the hell is William?”
“Out drinking with the bosses—way too much. Want to come collect him?”
“Where?” Thalia’s mind instantly went to that bathhouse from before.
"The bathhouse you visited last time."
Thalia’s tone sharpened. “Why do I hear glee in your voice?”
Angelina lingered under the eaves, William’s phone in one hand, a woman’s cigarette in the other. She flicked ash away. “Business entertainment. All men. What do you imagine happens in a place like that?”
"Women?"
“Is William fooling around with women?”
Angelina gave a careless shrug. “I never said that.”
