Chapter 485 I Am Still Angry
In the car, Thalia wrapped the blanket around herself and spoke in a casual tone with a hint of dismissal. "The director is well-known in the industry for his excellent reputation and skills. Everything is done to deliver a better performance for the audience. Of course, I understand. Today's incident was just a misunderstanding. I don't want this matter to become public. As for what happened tonight..."
"Ms. Smith, rest assured, I'll make sure everyone present tonight keeps their mouths shut tight."
The director said nothing. Rainey had come earlier to make his position clear, and now he was quite active in handling the situation.
Thalia let out a cold, sarcastic smirk. They were nothing more than a group of opportunists.
People from high society were capable of such despicable behavior.
If William hadn't shown up today, would Rainey have even appeared?
When it suited him, he shamelessly came asking for favors.
If there was no nothing to gain, they kept their distance. People like them had no principles at all.
"John, drive."
Thalia's car soon disappeared from everyone's sight. Only then did Rainey slowly straighten up from the deep forty-five-degree bow he had been holding, the fawning smile instantly vanishing from his face as he turned to look at the investors behind him.
"You all know what to do, right?"
"Mr. Ward, don't worry, we'll get to it right now."
........
Rainey went home, sat on the sofa, and smoked several cigarettes in a row. Quiana came downstairs. When she saw him like that, she asked what had happened.
Rainey told her everything that had happened that night.
When she heard this, she looked shocked. "How reckless! You saw for yourself last time how differently Mr. Brown treats Ms. Smith. How could you do something so stupid this time? Can you afford to offend someone like Mr. Brown?"
"I must have lost my mind for a moment! Wasn't I just trying to confirm the situation? A scandal is still just a rumor after all. Mr. Brown hasn't come out to clarify or confirm it. There are plenty of people in Emerald City waiting for the chance to take advantage of the situation. Ever since the scandal between Mr. Brown and Ms. Smith broke out, the Smith family's stock has been falling for an entire week."
"At a time like this, even if I wanted to take advantage of the situation, I shouldn't have been the first to act."
"So what should we do now?"
"Find a way to apologize!"
Rainey was trying to figure out how to fix the situation.
Quiana thought of something and asked, "We hardly have any investment in the show Thalia is currently filming. If you hadn't gone today, you could have simply pretended you knew nothing about it. By going there, weren't you basically telling Mr. Brown that you knew about it but chose not to deal with it properly?"
"Did I have a choice but to go? Mr. Jackson already sent me the message. You know what kind of person Mr. Brown is? He's extremely cautious and never allows his subordinates to discuss his private life. If Mr. Jackson mentioned this, it must have been with his permission. Whether I stepped forward or held back, the result would have been the same—I would still take the blame."
In his early years, William was hunted by enemies and nearly lost his life several times. If his family hadn't had a medical genius capable of gathering experts from every field, William might not have survived.
Since then, he's been extremely strict about controlling everything around him.
Only his personal bodyguards are allowed to know his schedule in advance.
As for private matters, the top of Mistwood Hill is heavily guarded, making it impossible for outsiders to get in.
........
At one in the morning, a convoy of cars slowly made its way up the main road of Mistwood Hill. Inside the car, Thalia slept soundly under a blanket.
William was reviewing a stack of documents sent by the secretary's office on his iPad.
As soon as the car stopped, William handed the iPad to Finn and told him to take it to the bedroom.
He stepped out of the car, walked around to the other side, and lifted Thalia out, still wrapped in the blanket.
The sleeping woman let out an impatient whimper. William paused, adjusted his hold on her, lowered his head to brush his cheek against hers, and gently coaxed, "Good girl, we're home. Let's sleep in bed."
In the black Maybach behind them, Amara and Isla stepped out of the car. Before they had fully steadied themselves, they saw the scene in front of them.
Isla said, "Sometimes I really can't figure out how those two manage to get along. Do you think Mr. Brown actually loves Thalia?"
Amara didn't hesitate. "Of course he does!"
"For a clear-headed and rational man like William, the line between love and indifference has always been clear. Before marrying Thalia, there are so many people that tried to set him up with women, but he wasn't moved. It's not that there weren't women gentler, more considerate, or even more beautiful than Thalia, but none of those women were Thalia."
"Isn't love supposed to be tolerant? But look at what Mr. Brown did this time."
"Even tolerance has its limits Do you really think a man who only gives without expecting anything in return would have spent all these years carefully planning to become a business tycoon?"
"He gives, so he expects to see results. That's a normal psychological need."
Isla was left speechless.
In the second-floor bedroom, William had just laid her on the bed and was about to reach out to remove her dress when the sleeping woman grabbed his wrist.
She was instantly alert.
"Having a dream?"
"I dreamed a pervert was about to kill me and then rape me."
William withdrew his hand and leaned back against the headboard, propping himself up with one arm as he looked down at her. "Someone like me, if I were going to be a pervert, would rape first, then kill."
"Drop dead, pervert."
Thalia pushed him away and got up to go to the bathroom. When her feet touched the carpet beside the bed, she realized she wasn’t wearing any slippers.
Just as she was about to press the intercom to have someone bring a pair up, William slipped his feet out of his slippers and gently nudged them toward her with his foot so she could step into them.
Shared warmth can create a surprising sense of comfort in certain situations. When her cold feet slipped into the warm slippers; she suddenly felt both physically and mentally at ease.
"Are you going to take a shower?"
"Bath."
William nodded, pressed the intercom to have a pair of slippers sent up, then went barefoot into the bathroom to run a bath for Thalia.
The two of them moved with an easy understanding.
By the time Thalia finished removing her makeup, William had already prepared the bath.
"Don't get shower gel on the soles of your feet—it can make the floor slippery. Angelina and the others are already here. I'm going to the study."
Even after giving these instructions, William still didn’t feel at ease. He walked to the bedside table, picked up Thalia's phone, and handed it to her. "If you need anything, press the intercom or call me."
"I'm not a child," Thalia muttered under her breath.
Then she added sharply. "Don't think I'm letting you off the hook. If it weren't so late tonight, I wouldn't have let you off so easily."
The man at the bathroom door heard Thalia's fierce, teeth-gritting words and couldn't help but turn back. He cupped Thalia's face with both hands and suddenly pulled her into a kiss, leaving Thalia momentarily stunned.
Because of the height difference between them, when William lifted her face, it felt as though her neck was being forced back uncomfortably.
"Are you out of your mind?"
"I'm still angry!"
"Get lost!"
