Chapter 392 Shameless Homewrecker
"Do you love William?" After listening to Thalia's long speech, Amara looked at her with a slight shift in her gaze.
No love, but understanding.
Wouldn't this kind of relationship hurt even more when they eventually go their separate ways?
"Seeking love is the lowest level in the world of emotions."
"Let's eat first," Thalia cut off Amara's question.
Amara said "oh" and lowered her head to eat.
"Should I get you a blanket later?"
"Bring a pillow too."
When Thalia went out, she told John to bring the things in. Seeing Amara lying leisurely in the chair, playing with her phone, the corner of her mouth twitched. "Do you need a power bank?"
"Do you have one?" Amara asked.
"Yes." Thalia had never seen anyone this relaxed at a police station.
..........
"The surveillance footage from the hospital is all out. Amara did the right thing - there was no medication error whatsoever. People from all departments have confirmed it. The dean has been really helpful too. Last night, when Amara was taken away, he stayed up all night and pulled in all the hospital management to work overtime."
"You're sure?" In the black Maybach, the man's expression was calm.
While driving, Finn nodded. "Positive."
"But Harper seems to have gone to the hospital early this morning. She'll probably run into Eileen."
William closed his iPad and rubbed his temples. "Let her go. She won't be at a disadvantage."
Harper used to work in academic administration - even showing just a bit of her skill at scolding students would be enough to drive Eileen half to death.
"Give the dean a heads up. Have him contact us if anything happens."
"Okay."
Sure enough, Harper had been thinking about Amara's situation all night and couldn't sleep. Early in the morning, she got up and went to the hospital, even making a point to walk around the floor where Amara's office was.
She was just about to find the dean to arrange a vacation for Amara, to let her take this opportunity to travel and relax.
But before she could go in, she heard people in the office complaining about the doctor's improper handling last night.
The dean kept apologizing with a smile, explaining, "We've already verified everything on our end. Leaders from all departments have also come to review it. Dr. Anderson's actions last night were completely correct, without any fault. The seizure was unexpected for us too. If there's a problem, we can discuss and resolve it, but your request is something we really cannot accommodate for our hospital."
"Do you know that if Mr. Jimenez had died last night, Dr. Anderson would be a murderer?"
Suddenly, the dean's door was pushed open.
Harper stood at the doorway, her face full of anger. "How old are you? What is is what is, what isn't isn't - what's with all these 'what ifs'? There's no concept of 'what if' in medicine. Why are you fantasizing about things that didn't happen? Standing here, I could fantasize about what if the earth explodes tomorrow, right?"
Henry looked at the woman standing before him - dignified bearing, very much the air of a lady from an academic family. "And who are you?"
"I'm Dr. Anderson's mom. I'm not going to waste time arguing with you. Did the Jimenezes send you here?"
Seeing Harper speak so directly, Henry was momentarily caught off guard.
"Looking at you, you're probably a servant from the Jimenez family, right? You can't really say much. Call out whoever's in charge of the Jimenez family."
"Picking on you just lowers my standards."
Henry glanced at the dean. Seeing him stay silent, he knew the hospital wasn't going to give them any results.
Eileen's goal was to force the Browns to come out, preferably William.
Now that Harper was here, it indirectly accomplished the mission.
"One moment."
Before long, Eileen came up. She was somewhat surprised to see Harper.
"I thought it would at least be Vaughn!"
"Sorry to disappoint you. At your age, being disappointed this often must be pretty pointless, huh?"
But Eileen wasn't fazed. She sat on the sofa across from Harper. "Your daughter was sent in, I understand you're upset. We don't really want to make things difficult for anyone - we just want to see the person we want to see."
"Who? William?" Harper picked up the cup in front of her and took a sip of water. As she lowered her eyes, the mockery in them was completely unconcealed. "Didn't you claim the Jimenez family is high society? How is it that you, supposedly nobility respected by everyone in Regal City, can't even meet a young person when you come to Emerald City? Are you sure the Jimenez family is really what you say it is? High society?"
"If the Jimenez family were really that impressive, my son should be personally visiting you. Look at yourselves - do you have even a bit of the manner of a prominent family?"
"Won't you be embarrassed when word gets back to Regal City?"
"Your mockery doesn't change the fact that your daughter is at the police station right now. Harper, have William come talk to us."
"You think you're worthy? A homewrecker who used her parents' influence to drive away someone's wife and take that position - you think that's something to be proud of? Someone like you coming to Emerald City is an insult to Emerald City's air."
"Shut up!" In her whole life, Eileen had never heard such filthy words.
"Getting angry? The things you've done - as long as this earth doesn't explode, someone will always know. It's just that some people are willing to talk about it and some aren't. Tell me, what's your mindset now? You drove away Steven's wife, hurt Steven's daughter, and now that Steven's daughter is successful and fighting back, you're looking for help again. How shameless. Never heard of karma?"
"I'd like to see if you have what it takes to put my daughter in prison."
"One of these days, I'll post all your scandals online and let everyone read about them, so they can appreciate just how shameless you are as an old homewrecker. You're so old the wrinkles on your face could crush someone, and you still have the nerve to show yourself?"
"How much is that old face of yours worth?"
Just as Harper closed the door behind her, the sound of a water glass smashing against the back of the door rang out sharp and piercing from inside the office.
