Chapter 330 Can't We Die from Exhaustion?
"Interesting. Penelope comes to Emerald City, and someone paid five million dollars for her leg," Daniel called William late at night.
Thalia was lying in bed, half-asleep, hovering on the edge of dreams.
When she heard Daniel say this, she instantly woke up, grabbed William's arm, and sat up, pressing her face close to his to catch the gossip.
The man held his phone in one hand and pulled the blanket over her with the other.
"Who?"
"You'll have to ask Thalia about that. It was a young man's voice. My guess is Raymond. I'll send you the recording in a bit, let Thalia listen to it."
William glanced down at Thalia. "Send it over."
Soon, Daniel sent the file, and William opened it.
After just two sentences, Thalia was certain. "Raymond."
"Isn't Penelope his grandmother? His real grandmother?"
"I saw him lying on the ground looking pretty miserable when I left the club tonight."
William tossed his phone aside and pressed Thalia's shoulders to tuck her back under the covers. "Sleep."
"That's it? You're not going to do anything?"
"Why would I? It's none of my business."
"Then why... are you paying attention to the Carter family's affairs?"
"When I went after Kurt, it meant the Carter family's backing collapsed. Do you think the Carter family would just sit back and watch? But I didn't expect Raymond to be such a ruthless character."
"Much stronger than Zephyrine, who only knows how to struggle."
"With Penelope's leg gone, it'll cost her big time if she wants to make any moves."
Thalia had always felt that Raymond wasn't as innocent and harmless as he appeared on the surface. Even though he hid it well, if you looked closely, you could still see the ruthlessness in his bones.

"How thrilling." Thalia made this comment, then slid down and pulled the blanket, ready to sleep.
"Ready to sleep?"
"Aren't you sleeping?" Thalia had an ominous feeling, looking at William's direct gaze.
"Shouldn't we do something today?"
Thalia replied, "Come on! Even work has breaks! Am I supposed to work year-round with you?"
"The one working year-round should be me, right? You're the one enjoying it, I'm the one putting in the effort."
Thalia added, "Well, you've worked hard. How can I let you do this physical labor every day! It's too exhausting. We can't have you dying from exhaustion, right?"
"I'd be so heartbroken!" Thalia reached out to stroke William's hair, coaxing him.
"Be good! I'm tired."
William said, "Not tired when eating with other men, but tired when you get in my bed?"
"If I got tired while eating with other men, wouldn't that cause problems?"
"Hey, where are you going!" Before Thalia could finish, William slammed the door and left.
Thalia looked at the time - 12:30!
Damn it! In the middle of the night, she still had to go coax the man.
If she didn't coax him properly, she wouldn't dare close her eyes to sleep tonight.
William would definitely pull her out of bed in the middle of the night for a "heart-to-heart talk."

An international text message came with a picture: [Done.]
In the picture, Penelope sat in a car, a black BMW with thick smoke billowing. Half her body was slumped in the back seat, her leg stuck behind the driver's seat, blood flowing everywhere - a shocking sight.
Raymond put down the cotton swab in his hand. Just as he was about to clean up the trash can, there was another knock on the door.
"Why are you here?"
Eleanor stood at the door in a white suit, clearly just coming from some business event - the look of an elite professional woman.
Standing at the hospital room door, carrying a medical kit, she saw Raymond in a bathrobe at the door, and her eyes softened for a second.
"Already treated it yourself?"
Raymond was a bit surprised. "You came to check on me?"
"Not really."
"Every time you get hurt, whether it's Elowen's doing or not, you claim it was Elowen. To prevent these things from happening again..." Eleanor said, pushing the medical kit forward. "You'll have to bear more of this kind of thing in the future."
"What do you mean?" Raymond looked at the medical kit being handed over with an ominous feeling.
Eleanor laughed. "Exactly what I said."
"Someone from the Mitchell family has to stand up, right? We can't just let you make up stories and tarnish our reputation!"
Was she here to settle scores?
Eleanor was much deeper than Elowen. A businesswoman raised by the Mitchell family to be their successor - her methods were no worse than Thalia's.

"Is there some misunderstanding?" Raymond asked.
"Can't own up to what you did? If I hadn't heard it with my own ears, I wouldn't have believed it either."
"Mr. Carter, that mouth of yours is quite something."
Raymond instinctively wanted to close the door.
Eleanor blocked the door with her hand, glancing at the people standing at the entrance. "Cover his mouth. It's late at night, don't disturb other guests."
With that, Raymond was pushed into the room, and the hotel room door was closed from inside.
Eleanor stood at the door, elegant in posture, occasionally raising her hand to check the time.

She wasn't fully awake yet when Layla called. "How's the script looking?"
"Starting work already?"
"What? You planning to just rest for the rest of your life?"
"It's only been how long!" Thalia grumbled. Though reluctant in words, her actions didn't slow down as she picked up her iPad to look at the script Layla sent.
"A modern drama?"
"What am I playing?"
"A career woman who fights back after being abandoned by her husband?"
"If you read fewer romance novels, your brain wouldn't be this messed up."
"Just career, no romance."
"You decide," Thalia lazily brushed her hair and put down the iPad, heading to the bathroom to wash up.
"Then get ready. Script meeting this afternoon."
Thalia said, "I told you to decide, and you really weren't polite about it."
"You already told me to decide, why would I be polite?"
"Address?"
"Azure Palace Hotel, 32nd floor conference room, 2 PM today."
Thalia could tell - Layla had already decided everything. Showing her the script was just going through the motions.
