Chapter 320 Serving Me Is Also Your Fortune
"Slow down." William reacted quickly, holding her and moving toward the wall. Fortunately, Thalia ended up against the wall instead of falling.
"You should feel lucky to serve me."
Someone like Thalia had always been proud at her core. Being mocked by William like this when things weren't going her way made her totally annoyed, but she couldn't let herself lose verbally.
William was amused by her response. Given what she'd been through, he decided not to argue with her. "Fine."
"William, you should be happy..."
"Why?"
"Simply put, I only have you serving me, but you have more than just me serving you."
"Nonsense," the man's lips turned down, somewhat displeased.
"Why don't you post on social media right now and ask? See if anyone's willing to help you use the restroom."
William couldn't be bothered to argue about this with her and carried Thalia to the restroom. "Can you manage?"
"Turn around, I'm embarrassed."
William knew she cared about her dignity and did as she asked.
The half-closed door couldn't block out the sound of water. William leaned against the doorframe in his gray polo shirt and black dress pants. As he rested against the wall, a wave of exhaustion washed over him.
He'd only dozed off for a bit just before dawn—barely two hours ago.
After Thalia's early morning restroom trip, it was destined to be another sleepless night.
William reached for his pocket, wanting a cigarette, only to find it empty.
The hospital room's restroom had a three-way separation design with sink, shower, and toilet—more like a hotel layout.
After finishing, Thalia was about to call out when she heard the sound of running water outside and the man splashing water on his face. She kept quiet.
"Done?"
"Yeah."
Thalia was carried back to bed, and William tucked the blanket around her. "Hungry?"
"No, I'll sleep a bit more."
"Go ahead!" The man pulled up a chair and sat by the bed.
Thalia didn't say anything. Backing down only worked at certain moments. She quietly shifted her position.
Looking at William with hopeful eyes.
Did she want to sleep together?
Everyone knew William was calculating and deep.
But he didn't say anything, insisting on making Thalia give in first. "What?"
Thalia shifted again.
"Does your butt hurt?"
Thalia was speechless.
"Just sit there then, tire yourself out."
The man chuckled softly, bent down, and cupped Thalia's face, planting a kiss on it. "What's so hard about saying it? Would it kill you?"
"Keep pretending!"
"I'm done pretending. I can't be too stubborn with you, or life gets hard." William got into bed fully clothed, pulled Thalia into his arms under the blanket, touched her head, and smoothed her hair. "Sleep. I'll stay with you."
...
"Did you find them?"
"Checked the surveillance along the route. They left by car, destination is Regal City," Finn reported to Daniel, seeing the helpless look on his face. The meaning was obvious—this was likely the Jimenez family's doing.
"Who from the Jimenez family? The Jimenez family butler and Michael are both in Emerald City. If they really wanted to cause trouble, they wouldn't need to go to such elaborate lengths."
"So what are you saying?"
"There must be a third person, or even a fourth."
Daniel thought, 'How vicious! Those people in Regal City are way more ruthless than the Smiths were back then. If the Smith family's illegitimate children had used these methods from the start, Thalia might not have survived till today.'
Rich people sure had plenty of tricks.
No matter how capable William was, once the other party entered Regal City territory, it would be hard to make a move.
"Should we still pursue?"
"Yes! We can't just back down like this."
"The way William was last night, he clearly never thought of giving up. Whether they're in Regal City or Emerald City, he's determined to track them down and tear them to pieces."
"We can't just keep taking hits, right?"
Finn nodded and made a phone call.
...
"Poisoned? What did you do? Out playing again? Can you still participate in the day after tomorrow's show?" Layla's first reaction upon hearing that Thalia was hospitalized again was about the show. She'd worked so hard to get this opportunity—was it all going to be thrown away?
"Do you know how many award-winning actors and big names are participating in that show? Thalia, do you know how much I had to drink to get this show?"
"Please, stop holding us back, okay?" Layla pleaded earnestly, almost crying in front of Thalia.
"Okay!"
"Okay! Really, this was purely an accident. William and I went out to eat and someone poisoned the food. I didn't go out playing, really. If you don't believe me, ask William."
As Thalia spoke, she glanced at William.
He grunted in acknowledgment.
Not wanting to say more.
Cold in front of others, he only showed a hint of a smile when facing Thalia.
Amara sat on the other side, peeling an apple for Thalia. A perfect, unbroken peel fell from her hands—as a medical student, this damn sense of satisfaction was instantly fulfilled.
Just as she was about to show off, Layla, sitting across from her, took the apple from her hand and took a big bite.
"Hey..." Amara wanted to say something.
"When can you be discharged?" Thalia pressed down on Amara, signaling her not to speak.
"Tomorrow."
"Really?" Layla didn't believe it.
Thalia nodded repeatedly. "Really."
Layla's questioning gaze fell on Amara, who nodded. "Pretty much."
"Please, if you want to keep the company running, just behave yourself and don't cause any more trouble. You've got dozens of people behind you counting on you for their paychecks."
Thalia nodded repeatedly under the lecture. "I know, I really know."
Seeing her good attitude in admitting her mistake, Layla let her off.
"You're that scared of her?" Amara rarely saw Thalia back down.
Thalia leaned back on the bed and sighed. "Without Layla, I wouldn't be where I am today."
"Isn't your today thanks to your dad?"
Thalia laughed but didn't respond.
...
The day after discharge, Layla came early to Mistwood Hill to pick her up. According to Mistwood Hill's rules, she couldn't even enter the main gate.
After waiting three to five minutes, she finally saw the car driving down.
"Today's a museum show. Here's the material, study it quickly," Layla said.
Thalia asked, "Introducing artifacts?"
"Yeah!"
"Gregory's there too?"
"You should be grateful! He's more dedicated than you. For the promotion of your new drama, he's actively fulfilling his contract. And look at you."
