Chapter 304 Isn't the saying "having lost both wealth and people" referring to me?
William frowned, looking somewhat displeased. "Ms. Lewis, what do you want?"
"Just five minutes, I won't take up too much of your time."
"Go ahead."
"Can we talk somewhere else?"
William remained unmoved by Scarlett's request, as if allowing her to speak was already a huge favor - and now she had more demands?
The guests around them sensed the situation and tactfully dispersed. After all, this was the Lewis family's event. Scarlett wasn't anyone important, but they still had to show Jasper some respect.
The crowd scattered, leaving only William and Scarlett. The man looked down at her, his eyes completely indifferent, as if she wasn't worth even the slightest emotional reaction from him.
"Mr. Brown, why did you embarrass me in front of all those people?"
"I admit that compared to you, I'm nothing, but does being nothing mean I don't even deserve basic respect?"
The man's thin lips pressed down slightly. If Finn had been nearby, he would've definitely noticed that William was already displeased.
But Scarlett, after rambling on, waited for William's response.
"Are you done?"
"Ms. Lewis, if respecting you means wronging myself, then no, you don't deserve that respect."
Scarlett was shocked, staring at him speechless.
William's merciless words continued to stab like knives. "Never mind you - even your father doesn't have that right."
"Ms. Lewis, your looks, your abilities - in all of Emerald City, you're completely ordinary. For someone above you to bow down and respect you, first you need to consider whether you're even worthy."
After saying this, William didn't linger. He didn't even say goodbye before leaving, leaving Scarlett alone, her face pale, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
Looking utterly pitiful and miserable.
Some people at the business gathering had come for William. Now that William had left, they had no reason to stay either, and found excuses to leave.
The banquet hall gradually quieted down.
At Mistwood Hill, Thalia changed the ice pack while Evelyn leaned against her, looking at her phone.
"Do you think after this, Scarlett will come after you even harder?"
"Afraid of her?"
"Not really, just think it's annoying to have someone like that on your case." After all, they both focused on their careers and didn't like being tied down by outsiders. If fighting with Scarlett took up too much of their time, it wouldn't be worth it.
"I heard the Lowe Group changed hands? Got bought by a foreign investor. Did you know about this?"
Thalia didn't respond. Evelyn continued, "Shouldn't Mr. Brown have bought it?"
"You want him to buy it?"
"Of course," Evelyn said, slightly surprised. "No matter what, you're William's wife. I hope he makes tons of money while you two are married, so when you divorce, you can get more."
"Forget it, I won't wish for you to get rich on your birthday anymore. I'll wish for Mr. Brown to get rich instead, so you can just lie back and collect the money."
Thalia was speechless.
"Mr. Brown."
"Where's Thalia?"
As William stood in the entrance changing into the slippers Fallon handed him, he asked.
He'd barely taken two steps into the living room when he saw Thalia sitting cross-legged on the sofa, holding an ice pack.
Evelyn, being tactful, saw William come home and quickly left.
Before leaving, she gave William a thumbs-up. "Mr. Brown, impressive."
William glanced at her. Knowing Evelyn was Thalia's friend of many years, he didn't mind her joking around.
"What happened to your hand?" William asked.
Thalia replied, "Got swollen from hitting someone."
"Hurting the enemy a thousand, hurting yourself eight hundred - stupid!"
The man walked to the sofa, reached out to take the ice pack from her hand, and gently rubbed it.
Hearing the couple's conversation, Fallon realized Thalia had been telling the truth - she really had injured herself from hitting someone.
"Well, that's because no one was there to do it for me," Thalia pouted.
"If you hadn't insisted on keeping the marriage secret, it wouldn't have been your turn to throw punches today."
Thalia tried to pull her hand back. "So it's my fault?"
William held her hand firmly. "My fault? I watched the door for you, helped you fake evidence, backed you up against people, and now you're blaming me?"
Thalia rolled her eyes. William continued, "I've figured it out - you'll always find something about me to complain about."
"How would I dare? You're going to be the Lewis family's son-in-law."
Thalia's cold remark made William laugh. He leaned close to Thalia and sniffed. "Let me see who's jealous here?"
"Get lost..." Thalia reached out to push him away, but the man smoothly grabbed her wrist.
Gazing at Thalia with deep, distant eyes, his tone playful - completely different from his cold demeanor at the banquet. "What? Did I hit a nerve? Getting defensive?"
"You've always prided yourself on being straightforward - like is like, don't like is don't like. Why are you being so coy with me?"
"William, we're going to divorce eventually. Isn't talking about liking or not liking a bit irrational?"
William was in a good mood today, probably because Thalia was jealous. He leaned in, trapping her on the sofa, looking at her: "What's there to fear? Truth is infinite - each step forward brings more joy."
"Living in the moment should be your life motto, shouldn't it?"
William was digging a trap, leading Thalia step by step into it. He was basically telling her outright - if you want to like someone, like them; if you want to love, love. Divorce is a problem for the future.
Thalia realized what was happening and hooked her arm around William's neck. "You're trying so hard to convince me - are you trying to drag me down with you?"
"Could it be that you've caught feelings in this marriage and want to trap me too?"
"Is that wrong?"
"Of course not, but trading two years of happiness for spending a huge amount of time fixing things for the rest of your life - isn't that a bad deal?"
William's smile didn't fade. His handsome face mixed with a bewitching smile looked like pure temptation no matter how you looked at it.
"If you put it that way, then I'm the one getting the raw deal. Not only do I have to spend a huge amount of time fixing things for the rest of my life, but I also have to lose a fortune. Losing both love and money - isn't that talking about me?"
Thalia raised an eyebrow and spoke mockingly, "William, have you fallen in love with me?"
