Chapter 276 The One Who Married Me Is You
Everyone who stayed at the villa last night had these symptoms, but they all thought it was just from staying up late, so they didn't think much of it.
Only Thalia and Layla left halfway through.
When this happened, it caught people's attention.
On the first floor of Mistwood Hill, William's face was dark, his whole demeanor cold and menacing, giving off a feeling like the calm before a storm.
The breakfast on the dining table had been served and cleared away multiple times.
Fallon knew something had happened to Thalia and didn't dare to persuade him, only waiting carefully on the side. "Mr. Brown, Mr. Wilson is here."
"Let him in," William said.
"What's going on? You dragged me out of bed first thing in the morning when I just went to sleep," Daniel complained.
William didn't beat around the bush. He glanced at Fallon, and only when they were alone in the living room did he speak. "Is there a new illegal substance on the market recently that's colorless and tasteless? After drinking it, it takes twelve hours to kick in, with symptoms like rapid heartbeat, weakness all over, like sudden death?"
Daniel was surprised. "How do you know?"
William never got involved in those circles, so how would he know about these new items going around?
"Just tell me, is it true or not?"
"Yes, it's supposedly new stuff that came out recently. A while back, someone even came to us trying to sell it, but we turned them down."
"Why are you asking about this? Let me make it clear - we don't have any of this stuff."
"Can you find out where this stuff is coming from? I also want to know who's been buying from them."
"This kind of thing should be left to the police, right? Why are you suddenly interested in them?"
Daniel was a bit confused by William's proactive attitude. He couldn't quite understand why someone who usually stayed out of other people's business was suddenly interested in this kind of thing.
That wasn't like him.
"Someone went after Thalia."
Daniel was stunned.
That serious?
Someone actually went after Thalia?
Did they have a death wish?
"I did hear that some people in the entertainment industry are getting into this stuff, but Thalia wouldn't. Could someone be trying to set her up?" Daniel asked.
Someone like Thalia who cared so much about her reputation would never touch these things. She knew better than anyone that once you got involved with this stuff and the media found out, your acting career would be over.
"It's not the entertainment industry," William told Daniel what happened to Thalia last night.
The latter listened, shocked.
Had Zephyrine gone crazy?
Even if she was desperate, it shouldn't come to this. If this thing got investigated, it would be over.
The Lowe family would be finished, and the Carter family would be too.
Daniel speculated, "Could she be using this stuff to get dirt on those wealthy ladies, then use it to extort money? If those ladies dare not pay her, and this gets out, not only would it be embarrassing, they might even go to jail."
"Possibly," William's face was dark.
Daniel added, "I'll look into it. The source should be easy to track down. As for Zephyrine, finding out won't be hard either."
"The test results are out."
"Here's the report," Amara handed the document to William, then took the medical kit upstairs to give Thalia an IV.
William glanced at the document, then looked at Daniel. "As soon as possible."
.........
"Mrs. Lowe, here are the photos." At the Lowe Villa, Zephyrine had just finished washing up and was sitting on the sofa in her pajamas, looking at the photos someone handed her, going through them one by one. Then her eyes landed on an elegant and noble-looking woman. "Her. Make it discreet."
"Understood." The person spoke confidently. These wealthy ladies were all afraid of having any dirt on them.
Paying to cover up dirt was nothing to them.
"Wait, have you found out who this person is?" Zephyrine pointed at a photo of Thalia entering the venue. She felt like she'd seen this person somewhere before, but couldn't remember for the moment.
"Still looking into it. It might take some time. Layla's network is really complicated."
After all, she was in the entertainment industry.
"As soon as possible."
"Understood."
"What's going on?" Kurt came in just as the person was leaving.
Zephyrine threw all the photos into her bag and shook her head at him. "Nothing. Did you work late again last night?"
"Yeah, the company's finally showing some improvement, so I don't dare let my guard down. What's been going on with you lately? You've been napping at home during the day. Not sleeping well at night?"
Zephyrine took a sip of water. "You know how it is. When women reach menopause, there are always some adjustments."
Kurt looked at Zephyrine and sighed. "If the company wasn't so busy lately, I'd take you out to relax. If you have any good friends, you could ask them to go out with you. Even though the company's not doing great right now, I can still maintain your lifestyle. Don't worry too much."
Kurt squeezed Zephyrine's palm as he spoke.
She smiled knowingly and leaned on Kurt's shoulder.
A loyal husband, filial children, and he was still Emerald City's top industrialist - how could she be willing to give up this kind of life? So no matter what, no matter the cost, she wouldn't let the Lowe family fall.
.........
"Awake?" In the bedroom with heavy curtains drawn, William saw Thalia move and reached over to turn on the light.
"What happened to me?" As the harsh light came on, Thalia raised her hand to block it.
The man turned off the light and opened the sheer curtains a bit.
"You were drugged," William told Thalia about what happened.
"How could that be? You're saying Zephyrine actually did something like drugging people with illegal substances?"
"Yes. Daniel's looking into it. We'll have results by tonight at the latest."
Thalia shifted her body. "Help me up, I need to use the bathroom."
"I'll carry you."
"I'll go myself."
"What are you being modest about? What part of you haven't I seen or touched?"
Thalia snapped, "Would it make you happy to see me die of anger?"
William saw that Thalia was sick and didn't bother arguing with her.
He carried her to the toilet. Thalia was holding onto him and about to sit down when she almost fell over.
The man sighed. "Don't be stubborn when you shouldn't be. I'll help you."
Thalia's face turned red as someone helped her use the bathroom. How could she deserve to have William, one of Emerald City's elite, pull down her pants and help her go to the bathroom?
Thalia suddenly thought of something and asked, "If you married another woman, would you take care of her like this?"
"There's no such possibility or hypothetical. The one I'm marrying is you," William replied.
