Chapter 220 Has Mrs. Brown Asked Me to Serve You Less?
"Mr. Brown, you looked so handsome in court!"
As soon as Thalia got in the car, she propped her chin on her hands, gazing at William with blinking eyes like a total fangirl.
William glanced at her with an indifferent look, showing little emotion. "Now that you've dealt with Walter, is Emma next on your list?"
"Why doesn't Mr. Brown just take care of Wesley instead? Once Wesley falls, the Wood family will really suffer. When a rich girl used to living the good life becomes poor—now that would be interesting."
As Thalia spoke, she fiddled with her nails. John, gripping the steering wheel, glanced back at her when he heard this.
Rare for Thalia to have such life insights!
That afternoon, Thalia's Messenger kept buzzing with messages. Without exception, they were all congratulating her on getting rid of Walter and finally bringing him to justice. For once, Thalia had some free time. Aaron, hearing she was coming back for the trial, had exceptionally given her three days off. These three days had just begun. Evelyn was busy with her career and had no time for her at all. Bored out of her mind, Thalia dragged Isla to a skin care salon.
After her beauty treatment, Thalia went to William's office. She'd barely stepped in and hadn't even had time to say hello when Finn rushed through the door. "Boss, last night's body—someone stole it."
Thalia: .........
William's eyes darkened. "Where was it stolen from?"
"The morgue. When the medical examiner left last night, it was already 1 AM. He closed the door but didn't lock it, thinking nobody would want to go into a place like that anyway. But this morning when Ethan and his team went to examine the body, it had vanished."
William narrowed his eyes, a dark gleam showing behind his gold-rimmed glasses. "Interesting."
"Go check the surveillance footage along the route. I want to see who's got the guts to do this."
Finn left to carry out the order. Thalia walked over to William's desk. "You're really not worried at all!"
"If I worry, will they back off?"
"No."
"Exactly. Let's go eat."
"Where are we eating?"
"A private club. Somewhere you've never been."
William had spent years in the business world and had made connections with plenty of big shots. Without exception, these big shots valued secrecy and privacy. To meet their demands, William had spent a fortune building one private club after another in Emerald City.
These places were all the same—iron gates shut tight, a dozen or twenty security guards at the entrance, extremely private.
Dressed in a black suit, William walked with steady steps, leading her through a deep courtyard, down a long wisteria corridor, and to a winding riverside. The two of them boarded a large boat.
Things that seemed ordinary elsewhere looked exceptionally luxurious here.
Sitting on the small boat, Thalia looked around at the decorations. As her eyes wandered, she couldn't help but marvel at William's wealth. Even Thalia, who'd been pampered since childhood by the richest man Hayden, was amazed by this scene.
"Mr. Brown keeps things well hidden!"
"You like it?" William took off his suit jacket. A server nearby moved to take it, but William waved her away, signaling her to leave.
He hung up his clothes himself, rolled up his sleeves, walked over to Thalia, picked up a pot, and poured her a cup of coffee.
"What did I do to deserve having Mr. Brown pour me coffee?"
William paused mid-pour. "Mrs. Brown, how many times have you made me wait on you?"
Thalia clicked her tongue, ignoring William's question, and continued, "Everyone says you're lucky I'd even look at you. Turns out I'm the one who got the better deal."
"Good that Mrs. Brown knows."
William went along with her words, sitting down in his chair and sipping his coffee.
Thalia organized her thoughts for a long time before stretching her neck toward William and saying, "Mr. Brown, I have an immature question I'd like to ask you."
"Go ahead."
"If we get divorced later, can I still get a share of all this property I don't know about?"
William set down his coffee cup and looked at Thalia. "Got your eye on my boat?"
"Yes!" Thalia nodded.
"What do you want a boat for?"
Thalia leaned back.
"Fine, don't give it to me then, cheapskate. Drink cold water and become impotent!"
William: .............
William laughed in exasperation, reached out to grab Thalia's arm and pulled her toward him. Thalia wasn't paying attention and stumbled onto William's thigh.
In an instant, a large hand slipped under her armpit and lifted her onto William's lap.
"Become what?"
Thalia played dead and didn't speak.
William reached toward her waist. "Become what?"
Thalia dodged, but the man held her tighter. "I was wrong, I was wrong, I was wrong."
Thalia burrowed into William's arms like a lazy cat. "The body disappeared. Could someone be deliberately trying to mess with us?"
"Scared?"
"Yes! In your business world, these things are about taking lives. I'm not stupid."
In the entertainment and wealthy circles, it was all just talk, comparing family backgrounds at most. Who would actually kill someone?
Take Emma as an example—she was kicked out of the entertainment industry just for having murderous thoughts.
On William's side, when they made a move, it was to take lives.
In a society ruled by law, who doesn't want to live a few more years? Especially her—a rich woman who hasn't finished spending her money yet.
"Don't worry, I'm here."
William stroked her waist, his expression and movements as gentle as if soothing a restless child.
A server from downstairs came up and happened to witness this scene. She'd been bringing people to serve food, but seeing this, she felt awkward about interrupting.
A business tycoon and an entertainment industry actress—this handsome couple would be explosive anywhere.
"Bring it up."
The group of servers stood against the wall by the stairs. Hearing William's words, they filed out carrying dishes, serving food and announcing each dish.
Exquisite dishes were placed before them one by one.
Thalia looked at them, feeling it wasn't real.
She felt like she was filming a TV drama on set.
"Just the two of us?"
"Yes."
"Isn't this many dishes a bit extravagant?"
Hearing this, William couldn't help but laugh. "More extravagant than your two-hundred-thousand-dollar bag?"
Thalia was left speechless.
She was about to argue back when she saw William turn off his lit phone and stand up, looking at Thalia. "You eat first. I'm going down for a bit."
Thalia watched William leave the boat. On the grassy shore, among the swaying willow branches, she saw from afar a man in a light green military uniform walking in........
