Chapter 189 The Wife Makes a Reasonable Request to the Husband
"Do you know that guy who just left?" Thalia returned to her seat and tilted her chin toward Evelyn.
Evelyn glanced back at Kurt's retreating figure and shook her head. "No, why?"
"Nothing much. I just saw Nora getting kicked out of his private room. Looked like things got physical too."
"Is it really that rare to see actresses trying to please rich investors? A man at his level has already been with all the actresses he wanted when he was younger. Now he's either settled down with family or he's not interested in young women anymore—he wants someone with depth."
"Anyone who's made it big in the entertainment industry is smart! As for Nora..." Evelyn couldn't be bothered to finish her sentence. She picked up her glass and sipped her drink slowly.
Thalia's fingertips tapped slowly on her glass, looking thoughtful.
"So? You got rejected?" Linda watched Nora come out in a panic, looking upset. Kurt was the only person they could possibly connect with, and Nora had failed again and again. Linda knew exactly what that meant.
"I didn't even say a word before he grabbed me by the throat. He looked like he wanted to snap my neck," Nora said, lifting her hair to show Linda.
Linda looked at the marks and hesitated to speak.
"Let's go back first! Get a hot towel to put on it. You have an event tomorrow—don't let anyone notice."
Nora fell silent for a moment, leaning back in her seat, thinking about what had just happened in the private room.
Last time, Kurt had at least been polite to her, but this time he grabbed her right away. Why?
Saturday night, Film & Television Awards Ceremony.
Early in the morning, Thalia was pulled out of bed by a phone call from Layla. She stumbled into the bathroom with messy, fluffy hair, squinting her eyes.
She startled William, who was standing at the sink brushing his teeth.
"Aren't you supposed to be resting?"
"I have an event tonight," Thalia said, yawning as she reached for her toothbrush.
William took the toothbrush and squeezed toothpaste onto it. "An event tonight, and you need to start at eight in the morning?"
"Which actress doesn't spend hours picking out dresses and getting styled?"
Thalia reached for the toothbrush, but William pulled it away. "Wash your face first to wake up."
"Dry it!"
William was annoyed by Thalia's carelessness.
He grabbed a towel and roughly wiped her face, making Thalia so comfortable she almost sighed.
"Mr. Brown," Thalia hooked her arms around his neck, nuzzling him like a sleepy kitten.
Her nuzzling got William fired up early in the morning. He pressed her waist and pushed her away. "Thalia, if you don't want me to deal with you, act normal."
"No," Thalia mumbled, hooking onto his arm again and looking up at him sweetly. "Do you love me?"
Thalia pressed against him in her pure white silk palace-style nightgown, her body moving beneath it in a way that captivated him. She was an actress who spent eight or nine figures a year on her body and face. Anyone who looked at her would have to admit she was a feast for the eyes.
Early in the morning, her bare face was free of makeup, her bright eyes carrying the lazy look of not enough sleep. Every glance up and down was enchantingly beautiful.
Thalia was breaking the law!
"Do you want me to love you?"
Thalia asked, "If you love me, will you give me money to spend?"
"I'll give you money even if I don't love you, as long as you're my wife."
"Then will Mr. Brown do me a favor?" Thalia clung to him like a boneless snake, swaying unsteadily.
William held her waist to keep her from hitting the sink. "Tell me what it is."
"I want a haute couture dress from Aurelion Noir."
William's eyes narrowed. Didn't these haute couture dresses used to be delivered to her doorstep?
"You can't get one?"
"Times have changed, Mr. Brown. I'm someone without a father now."
Those haute couture dresses used to come to her not because of her, but because of Hayden.
How pitiful—without a backer, she could barely survive in the entertainment industry.
"You want it?" William asked with a smile.
Thalia nodded. "I want it."
William chuckled and lifted her to sit on the sink. Thalia panicked, hooking her arms around his neck and refusing to let go. "We had sex until dawn last night, and again this morning?"
"Didn't you say you wanted it?"
Thalia straightened up and looked down at him. "You're tricking me?"
"You can trick me, but I can't trick you?"
"How did I trick you?"
"You came up to me this morning all sweet like a cat—that's not tricking?"
"A wife making a reasonable request of her husband—how is that tricking? Besides, I'm your wife. Do you want to see me embarrassed in front of the media? Unable to hold my head up in front of my rivals?"
"I can barely survive now. If you won't help me, fine, but you're going to make assumptions about me?"
"Is this how you ask someone for help?" Thalia realized something was wrong. Her mouth turned down, and she nuzzled up to William's neck again. "I can agree to your terms."
"Name your conditions," Thalia quickly played nice.
"Come with me to the Brown Villa for dinner."
Thalia: "That's not a good idea, is it? We're going to get divorced eventually. What if—hey, don't leave!"
"William!"
At the mention of divorce, William felt there was no point in continuing the conversation.
Thalia blocked him at the study door. "What are you doing!"
William looked down at her, his lips pressed thin, saying nothing, his whole body radiating nameless anger.
Thalia felt a bit guilty under his gaze. "Are you going to help me or not?"
"Why should I help you?"
"I'm your wife."
"We're getting divorced eventually anyway."
