Chapter 831 The Child Can Be Given to Others, but Not the Wife?

Eddy learned a lesson on his very first day of kindergarten.

When Fallon picked her up, she noticed Eddy was listless, not talking or making any noise.

On this day, William came home early for once.

He was planning to wait for Eddy to come home from school and take him to Thalia's event.

But as soon as Eddy walked in and saw him, his face fell and he started wailing.

"Dad, is Mom dead?"

William's eyebrow twitched, and his expression instantly turned cold. "What did you say?"

"Mom's dead!"

"What nonsense are you talking about? Stop it right now," Fallon said from the side, seeing William's face darken. She quickly went over to grab Eddy's hand, ready to take him out of the living room.

She thought to herself: If your mom were dead, your dad would take you with him to the grave!

This was not something that should be said.

Eddy had originally thought this wasn't true, but seeing his father's grim expression, he thought Thalia really had died.

He burst into tears, crying his heart out.

"Mom's dead?"

William kept a cold face, his patience exhausted.

He lifted his foot and kicked Eddy to the ground.

His bottom hitting the floor was quite alarming.

Eddy was stunned by the kick, looking at his father, not even daring to cry anymore.

He blinked his eyes, completely confused.

"Take him to change his clothes."

"Let's go, let's go," Fallon called the nanny and quickly carried Eddy away.

The short revenge drama that Thalia filmed after giving birth won awards left and right.

On this day, the National Film and Television Awards ceremony was being held in Emerald City. William had gotten word early and became a sponsor. Knowing that Thalia would be going on stage to receive an award, he planned to attend with Eddy to show their support.

What was originally planned as a nice family outing was shattered by Eddy's "Mom's dead."

When the two arrived backstage at the awards ceremony, Isla was accompanying Thalia for photos. William was holding Eddy in one arm, with Eddy sitting on his arm and hugging his neck, sobbing quietly. Because William had given him a death stare, he didn't dare make a sound even while crying.

"What's wrong?"

Isla walked over and lovingly rubbed his cheek.

Eddy looked at William pitifully and buried his little head in her neck. "Isla, don't tell Mom that Dad hit me, or Mom will feel bad."

"Didn't your mom die? How can she feel bad for you?" William ruthlessly exposed his little scheme.

Isla was speechless.

He held back a laugh and stepped aside.

"What happened?" Thalia finished taking photos and came over in her gown, taking a glass of water from her assistant and drinking some.

William glanced at Eddy. "After one day at kindergarten, the first thing he said when he got home was that his mom died."

Thalia laughed.

William asked, "What are you laughing at?"

Thalia awkwardly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Nothing, it's just... on the enrollment form, I wrote that he's from a single-parent family."

"This is absolutely ridiculous," William scolded her coldly.

Thalia realized he was getting angry and quickly said, holding up her dress, "I need to go in now."

William suppressed his anger, watching Thalia's disappearing figure and shouting angrily, "Not one of you gives me peace of mind."

Eddy was three years old, and Evelyn's daughter was almost two.

The two of them often arranged to take the kids out at Mistwood Hill, where there was lots of space and many play facilities.

William was extremely generous when it came to spending money on his family.

Many things were brought into the house just for novelty.

The spring weather was nice.

The two sat under a sun umbrella while the nanny ran around with the children.

"Has William been going to the hospital a lot lately?" Evelyn asked casually.

Thalia shook her head. "Not sure, he hasn't mentioned it to me."

"Why?"

"A couple days ago when I went to the hospital for postpartum checkup, I ran into Amara and we chatted. She said Angelina is suspected of having mastitis and is hospitalized for a biopsy. People are constantly coming and going from her hospital room, and Mr. Brown has been going to the hospital frequently."

Thalia was shocked.

"How could this happen?"

"In their line of work, how long they live depends on luck. Working around the clock, managing such a big company, and being a workaholic - problems are inevitable. Women always have it harder in business."

"Elijah said William has been really troubled lately. Angelina's health isn't good, and the Celestia Group needs someone to take over. If he replaces her, he's letting Angelina down. If he doesn't replace her, it's not only bad for Angelina and might even worsen her condition, but it will also affect the company."

"Businessmen are always caught between conscience and profit," Thalia said, taking a sip of tea. "It's hard to have it both ways."

Evelyn turned to look at her. "What do you think he'll choose?"

"He'll replace her."

Evelyn asked, "That certain?"

Thalia hummed in agreement, put down her cup and poured herself coffee. "It's inevitable."

"His years of friendship with Angelina are just a drop in the bucket compared to his long career path," Thalia said, holding the cup and turning it in her hands. "If Angelina understands his ambition, she should choose to step back rather than wait for William to speak up."

"It would be more dignified if Angelina stepped down herself."

That evening, William came home with worry faintly visible between his brows.

He didn't say anything, and Thalia didn't ask.

A week later, Angelina's biopsy report came back.

Benign.

A blessing in disguise.

But with breast issues, benign doesn't mean cured. She took the initiative to hand over management of the Celestia Group and step back from the front lines. She wouldn't do management work anymore, but her position remained.

And William was merciful enough to transfer five percent of his Celestia Group shares to her.

In late spring, the Celestia Group's top management changed hands.

Emerald City's business world was in turmoil.

During the Golden Week holiday in May that year, Mr. Brown was too busy with work in Regal City to get away.

Thalia flew to Regal City with Eddy to spend the holiday with him.

On the plane, Eddy slept the whole way and still hadn't woken up when they got in the car.

The car stopped in the Essence building parking lot. Just as Thalia was about to get out, someone pulled the car door open.

He bent down, took off his jacket and covered Eddy with it.

He carried him in one arm and helped Thalia out of the car with the other hand.

As soon as she stood steady, Thalia sighed softly, leaned against William and nuzzled him like a cat, lazily.

"Tired?" William rubbed her lower back, slowly comforting her.

"Yes."

"Go upstairs and sleep."

Thalia said sweetly, "I don't want to move."

"Mr. Sharp," a senior executive from Essence had just returned from a business meeting and was about to go upstairs when William, standing by the car, called out to him.

He was startled and walked over nervously. "Mr. Brown."

William was brief. "Could you hold him for a moment?"

The other man was surprised but quickly reached out his hands. As a father himself, he was well-practiced at holding children.

He thought William had some other arrangement, but unexpectedly, William bent down and scooped Thalia up in his arms, straightened his back, and walked straight toward the elevator.

So?

The child could be given to someone else, but not the wife?
