Chapter 820 Birthday Banquet
Chapter 820 Birthday Banquet
On Christmas Day, when Thalia woke up early in the morning, the decorations at Mistwood Hill had already been set up overnight by the staff.
The sofa in the first-floor living room had been moved away to make room for a birthday party.
The little one was dressed in a little suit, Thalia wore a long dress that matched William's suit, and the whole family looked picture-perfect.
In Isla's words, they were good-looking enough to turn heads on the street.
"What do you think your son will feel when he finds out you once thought he was ugly?"
"What would he feel?" Thalia asked. "Even if he has feelings about it, he'll just have to deal with it."
"After all, who's the boss here?"
William was standing nearby chatting with Elijah and the others. Hearing Thalia's words, he turned to look at her. "You're the boss."
The living room instantly erupted in laughter.
That day, Marie and Elon were also among the invited guests.
When Elon came, his wife was with him.
It was their second meeting, and everyone chatted politely.
It was as if all those things that had happened before were now water under the bridge.
The atmosphere was so relaxed it felt like a long-overdue reunion of old friends.
Plus, since they were all close friends, no matter how well William could hold his liquor, he couldn't withstand everyone taking turns urging him to drink.
Leaning back in his chair, he took off his suit jacket and tossed it to Fallon, asking someone to bring the child over.
He took the child while tipsy, standing up a bit unsteadily, though his steps were still fairly stable.
Grace and Harper followed behind him, ready to support him if needed.
Watching him walk with the child, their hearts skipped a beat with each step.
They were afraid he might fall with the child.
But unexpectedly, William walked over to Evelyn in just a few steps while holding the child.
He placed the child in her arms, leaning on the back of her chair and looking at Elijah. "Son, tell your godmother to hurry up and have a baby so they can be playmates."
In the living room, someone started clapping.
Cheers filled the air.
Elijah smiled and looked at Evelyn.
It was Evelyn who blushed. "Have what? Why don't you just give me your son?"
"Nice try," William was protective. He glanced at the nanny.
The latter wisely came over and took the child away.
Hearing this, Marie teased back. "Mr. Brown can't bear to part with him. To have a son, he invested who knows how much in Peace Church."
"Ms. Wilson, you know about that too?"
"Can't help it. My grandma lives at Peace Church. Go there enough times, and naturally you'll see it a few times." Marie swirled her glass.
After several rounds of drinks, someone turned their attention to Elon. "Mr. Wilson is getting more and more impressive. We can see you in the news now. If I ever get into trouble in Regal City, can you bail me out?"
Seeing the conversation turn to him, Elon went along with it. "Like what?"
"You know, drinking, gambling, that kind of stuff."
Elon thought, just as I expected. He tapped his cigarette without planning to smoke it, his gaze falling on Elijah. "Mr. Lopez is the expert in this area. He knows the process better than me. He's more reliable."
Elijah said, "That's too much! Are we hurting each other now?"
"Want me to tell Elon's wife about your heroic deeds?"
Marie of course knew what Elijah meant.
Elon's wife was great in every way.
His family had no issues with her either.
Elon had no intention of changing wives.
If this blew up, wouldn't all hell break loose?
Marie changed the subject, looking at William. "Mr. Brown, you really scored today, setting up a gathering and finding out everyone's dirty secrets."
Thalia noticed the direction Marie's words were heading and smoothed things over. "Who doesn't have some heroic deeds? Just take anyone at this table, and you could write a romance novel of several million words."
"That won't do. Elon needs ten million words—the first five million writing about his heroic deeds, the last five million cursing him out."
Elon tossed his cigarette on the table, his chest shaking with laughter. "Your brother is incompetent. You can write ten million words cursing me, and he'll still be incompetent. Thalia is perfectly fine, so why did your brother end up with psychological trauma?"
Beside him, Elon's wife looked at him questioningly. He glanced at her and patiently explained about the time Thalia and Elijah were putting together a show at the border.
"How many years ago was that?"
"Thalia, you really know how to ask questions. Right to the point." Hearing this, Daniel almost choked with laughter.
Elijah glared at him.
The birthday party was held at noon, and people left in the evening.
Everyone had drunk quite a bit.
Fortunately, Mistwood Hill had plenty of security.
Sending everyone home wasn't a problem.
Because of work, Elon was usually based in Regal City and only came back occasionally.
That day, because of William's son's birthday party, he rarely stayed overnight.
After resting for a while when they got back from Mistwood Hill, it was already evening.
After showering, Elon's wife came into his study in her pajamas looking for a book to read.
She browsed around and pulled out a psychology book from the shelf.
She flipped through it briefly, and as the pages turned quickly, a photo flew out.
She bent down to pick it up.
But was shocked to discover that the people in the photo were Thalia and Elon.
Thalia was in a white dress, Elon in a black suit.
The two stood in a flower garden, Thalia looking ahead while Elon's gaze fell on her, filled with tenderness, affection, and love eager to be expressed.
The photo was taken from above.
Their expressions were magnified.
So?
The heroic deeds they mentioned at the table—were they about things between Elon and Thalia?
She was lost in thought when her fingers suddenly felt empty.
A scent of soap came at the same time the photo was taken away. Elon, wearing pajamas and drying his hair with a towel, hooked open a drawer with his pinky and tossed the photo inside.
If you said he liked her, the first thing he did when he got the photo was throw it in a drawer.
If you said he didn't like her, yet this photo had been tucked in a book for so long.
"Do you like her?"
Elon answered openly, "I admired her before."
"What about now?" she asked urgently.
Hearing this, Elon turned to look at her. "We're married. What do you think?"
"Don't overthink it." He offered a brief word of comfort and turned to leave.
She caught up in a few steps and grabbed his pajamas. "Last time you were chatting with Marie, you said you were forced to get married. Was it Mr. Brown?"
Elon looked at her expression, eager to get to the bottom of things. "I thought you'd say it was Mom and Dad."
"Hannah, I'm fully aware that I'm married, and I know what marriage responsibilities are. You don't need to worry that I'll break our agreement because of someone else. Besides, didn't we talk all this through before we got married?"
The light remark "didn't we talk all this through before we got married?" made Hannah Nguyen's heart tremble.
Yes! Before getting married, they had agreed to only talk about mutual benefits, not feelings.
But...
