Chapter 478 Full of Schemes
"What's wrong?" Amara asked.
"William has a fever."
"A fever!" Amara's tone was calm, not surprised at all, as if she had expected it.
Thalia looked at the sleepy person, saw her running her fingers through her hair, and thought she just hadn't woken up yet.
"You go check on him."
"Let me wash my face to wake up first." At 6:30, the early winter sky after the rain was barely light.
Not to mention the Brown Mansion, this garden villa area, surrounded by lush vegetation, where light always came in with patchy shadows.
"103.3 degrees Fahrenheit," Amara glanced at the thermometer gun.
"Why don't you let him burn for a few more days? If he burns himself stupid, you can get a new husband."
Amara looked at Thalia and seriously suggested. Indeed, women feel for women. With someone as calculating as William, she really felt bad for Thalia!
From the moment they entered the house last night, Thalia had been constantly manipulated by William.
What topics to discuss, what to eat, how much to drink, and now here he was, burning up unconscious in bed.
"Are you sure I can really let him burn for a few days?"
She could call the shots at Mistwood Hill, but this was the Brown Mansion. No matter how bold she was, she couldn't ignore his well-being in front of Vaughn and Harper.
"Try it?" Amara kept persuading.
"The way you're pushing this, is he not just feverish but terminally ill?"
Amara said, "Not that serious."
"Let's give him some fever medicine first! Men have strong constitutions; a fever is just a two or three-day thing."
"Wouldn't an injection work faster? The company has tons of things waiting for him to handle. If he's lying here for two or three days, who's going to go out and make money for us to spend?"
William's fever was almost at 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and Thalia was still thinking about sending him to work.
"How about this? Medicine first, and if the fever doesn't break this afternoon, we'll try an injection?"
"That works?" Thalia had a splitting headache herself. She walked to the water kettle, wanting to pour some water to clear her head. When she picked it up, the kettle was empty.
"I'll go downstairs for some water." At this hour, she didn't know if Harper was up yet.
At the Brown Mansion, Harper and Vaughn did everything themselves and rarely ordered the servants around, which made Thalia feel awkward about asking.
As soon as Thalia left, Amara reached out and pushed William. "Open your eyes. I saw you last night on the balcony in short sleeves and shorts, drinking ice water and standing in the cold wind. Come on, don't make me expose you."
The person lying in bed, originally "unconscious," slowly opened his eyes.
Amara added, "Ten million dollars hush money or I expose you. Your choice."
William's voice was slightly hoarse, probably from the real fever, his eyes bloodshot. "Ten million."
"Deal."
"Let me speak for you, or let me stir things up. Choose the latter, add another ten million dollars."
"Okay."
Indeed, good fortune lifts the spirit. The listlessness from earlier had completely disappeared. Amara felt comfortable all over.
"Where's your phone? Call Angelina and have her write me a check right now."
With someone like William, who knows if he'd turn his back on her once he recovered. She absolutely had to prevent future problems.
..........
"You're finally awake. If you don't wake up soon, the company's going to collapse."
Thalia went downstairs with her phone. While the water dispenser was heating water, she opened it and saw dozens of missed calls, with an ominous feeling. She wanted to call Layla back, but thought it was too early.
She sent a message.
Unexpectedly, almost immediately after sending the message, Layla's call came through.
"I warned you so much yesterday not to get close to William, and you still went home with him late at night. Now look, the news about you two living together is everywhere."
"Yesterday it was William's secret marriage, today it's you two living together. Thalia!! You should never drink alcohol again in your life. First time drinking, you slept with him. The second time drinking, your secret marriage got exposed. Third time, are you two going to commit a murder?"
Layla hadn't slept all night, leading the whole company in damage control, drinking who knows how many cups of coffee.
Her head was buzzing now as she went off on Thalia.
"Then why are you only calling me now?"
"Look at your phone first."
"Thalia, this is William's setup, the trap he dug waiting for you to jump in, and you're still stupidly speaking up for him. Last night I contacted the Celestia Group PR department, and everyone's phones were turned off. Such a huge corporation, and the headquarters PR department collectively turned off their phones - do they all want to get fired? If someone hadn't given orders, who would have the nerve?"
"I knew William saying anything about a two-year marriage term was fake, deceiving you. Someone like him, a self-serving hypocrite who usually warns me when you get a bit close to male celebrities, how could he have a secret marriage? And divorce in two years? Thalia, I'm telling you, based on my nearly forty years of life experience and having seen countless scumbags, forget about divorce. Even if you die, it'll be as William's wife."
"Damn it! She hung up on me."
Before Layla could finish venting, Thalia hung up.
She opened Facebook and took a look.
#Breaking! Thalia and William's Secret Marriage.
#Thalia's Life Story.
#Emerald City's Richest Man William.
The entire Facebook trending list was dominated by her and William.
When Thalia saw the news, she felt all the blood in her body rushing to her head.
She suddenly remembered what Harper said at the dinner table last night, prepared in a hurry.
That meant Vaughn hadn't invited them home for dinner at all; it was William's last-minute decision.
Then thinking about drinking at the dinner table last night - normally, William would let her have at most one glass, but last night, he was incredibly diligent about refilling her wine.
It was all calculated.
Thalia angrily went into the kitchen and grabbed a fruit knife.
She rushed upstairs and kicked the door open.
The bang made everyone gathered around William's bed look at her in unison.
"Thalia, what's wrong?"
Thalia couldn't hide the emotion on her face in time, and the fruit knife in her hand had nowhere to hide.
"Nothing, I had something in my hand and couldn't open the door. So early - Mom, Dad, why are you up?"
"We heard William has a fever, so we came up to check on him."
Thalia smiled and nodded, suppressing her emotions.
Once they left, she would kill this bastard.
