Chapter 410 Not Wearing Underwear
As soon as Brian walked in, he saw William staring at his phone screen all sneaky-like, as if waiting for someone's call. From that look, you didn't even need to guess who he was waiting for someone's call. From that look, you didn't even need to guess who he was waiting for. Who else but Thalia?
The moment Brian entered, William's cold, angry eyes swept over, startling him.
"I'm just checking if you need more coffee."
"Get out." As soon as William spoke, Brian quickly scurried out.
Holding his phone, William sent Thalia several messages on Messenger, but got no response. He tried calling, still no answer.
At that moment, Thalia was leisurely strolling around the yard at Mistwood Hill with a cat. Along the way, she spotted apples hanging from a tree and called a servant over with a basket to pick them. She also cut some branches to put in the living room vase. Her mind was occupied with how to arrange these things beautifully. She hadn't given a single thought to the person she'd upset that morning.
It wasn't until Thalia returned to the Mistwood Hill living room that Fallon came over with her phone. "Mrs. Brown, your phone's been ringing."
Thalia picked up her phone and looked at it, somewhat puzzled to see Brian's number. She sent him a message: [What's wrong?]
Brian immediately replied: [Mrs. Brown, help! Please call Mr. Brown home, I'm begging you!]
Only then did Thalia realize, and asked Fallon, "Where's William?"
Fallon responded, "He hasn't come back yet."
Thalia had forgotten all about him. With William being such a petty man, he'd definitely hold a grudge. Thalia thought for a moment. Not wanting to make the call herself, she cleared her throat. "Ask him when he's coming back."
"Mr. Brown won't answer my calls."
"Why not?"
Fallon shook her head helplessly. Clearly, these two had gotten into another fight. Otherwise, things wouldn't be this tense.
"Fine, I'll call myself." Thalia gave herself a little pep talk and dialed. She expected no answer, but after just two rings, he picked up. And after picking up, there was silence on the other end.
Thalia's temper flared instantly. "What time is it? Still not home? If you're not coming home, don't you know to call?"
William had been holding his breath waiting for Thalia's call, and finally got it. As soon as Thalia's fierce questioning came through, he quickly threw out one word.
"Coming."
"Come pick me up."
Thalia was speechless. "Where's Finn?"
"Fired him."
Fired? Impossible. Finn had been with him for so many years and was already a trusted aide. How could he just fire him so casually? He was clearly lying.
"When did you fire him?"
"Just now."
Downstairs, Finn felt his ears tingling with a strange, inexplicable feeling. Thalia understood. William was clearly trying to give her a hard time, deliberately tormenting her.
"Fine, you wait. I'll come get you." Thalia handed the apple tree branch to Fallon. "Put this in the bedroom."
Fallon took the branch, but before she could react, she saw Thalia turn and head out, startling her. "Mrs. Brown, aren't you going to change?"
"Change what? Didn't he ask me to pick him up? I'm going just like this."
That day, Thalia was wearing a nightgown. When moving around Mistwood Hill, she'd at least thrown a long cardigan over it for a casual look. Now going out, she didn't even want the cardigan. Who knew if she was even wearing a bra underneath, and she was going to pick him up like this? If William saw this, he'd probably blame them. Fallon's hands were shaking.
At the Celestia Group, when Thalia's car arrived at the underground parking lot, she looked around and indeed didn't see Finn. She called William to come downstairs. The man answered the phone and mimicked Thalia's usual attitude.
"This is how you pick someone up?" Meaning he wanted her to come upstairs?
Thalia yanked the car door open with a bang and strode toward the elevator. Seeing her like this, John was alarmed and immediately followed, taking off his jacket as he went.
"Ms. Smith, this isn't appropriate. Ms. Smith, if Mr. Brown sees you like this, he'll kill me." "What right does he have to kill you? If he hadn't made me come upstairs, would I be going up like this?"
John was stuck. "But..."
"But what?"
"There's no but."
Thalia was fuming too. She rushed to William's office and shoved the door open hard. William was bending down about to leave when he saw the office door rudely pushed open and a flash of white. He thought he was seeing a ghost. After getting a clear look, he lost his composure.
"Thalia, what are you wearing?"
"Who gave you permission to go out like that?"
William's head was buzzing. He rushed toward Thalia, grabbed her arm, pulled her into the office, and slammed the door shut.
"Are you wearing a bra?"
This outfit was what William saw most often when Thalia came out after a shower, getting ready for bed. Had she lost her mind? Walking around outside in her nightgown so brazenly.
Thalia glared at him angrily. Before she could answer, William started feeling around, and when he found no bra, he nearly couldn't breathe.
"So you came out without a bra?"
"Didn't you tell me to come up?"
"Did I tell you to come up without a bra?"
"You didn't ask me what I was wearing when I came out!"
"So it's my fault?"
"It's my fault," Thalia readily admitted, though without much sincerity.
"You're going to be the death of me. See who else would spoil you like this." William said fiercely, taking off his suit jacket and draping it over her shoulders. "Put it on."
"Ugly!"
"Wear it even if it's ugly."
"No."
"Thalia!"
Thalia blinked at him and said seriously, "Can't you tell? I'm trying to make you hug me!"
Thalia's bold, direct attack immediately deflated half of William's anger. The man paused, then picked her up and strode toward the exit. As they were about to enter the elevator, Thalia saw Angelina coming out of her office and gave her a thumbs-up.
One move to win. William probably wouldn't dare act all proud again for the rest of his life.
