Chapter 397: The Smell of Perfume
"Thalia, if you dare risk your life for another man, believe me or not, I'll break your legs."
Thalia slammed on the brakes, and her heart, which
had jumped to her throat settled back down.
She stared wide-eyed at the scene ahead. "Where are you?"
"Right next to you," William said through gritted teeth. He saw someone going after Michael, and before he could even make out who it was, he spotted a pink car about to charge forward.
Thank God he'd bought Thalia that car —he could recognize it instantly. If this call had come a second later, Thalia would've rushed in.
Thalia turned to look at the shop next to the café.
First glance - nothing special.
Second glance - Eclipse Lounge?
"What are you doing at Eclipse Lounge? Business entertainment?" Thalia asked.
"Yeah!"
"With women?" Thalia got straight to the point, too lazy to even argue— just wanted the answer.
William felt a chill hearing Thalia's words, but his emotions hadn't quite recovered from seeing her rev the engine just moments ago.
"Now you're questioning me?"
"You're messing around with women right in front of me, and I can't even ask?"
"Who told you I'm messing around with women?"
"Then why are you at Eclipse Lounge?"
"While you two are bickering here, Michael's about to die," Evelyn interrupted.
Thalia glanced at Michael—covered in blood and desperately dodging, steadied herself, released the gas pedal, and turned off the engine.
Not saving him!
Between Michael and William, it was obvious who mattered more. No point offending the man she'd spend her life with over some outsider.
Evelyn was speechless.
Michael heard the engine shut off and was shocked. He'd thought Thalia would save him, but turns out Thalia really was heartless! When she was ruthless, she was truly ruthless.
He was about to die, and she still wouldn't help?
"Really not helping?" Evelyn asked.
"Why should I?" Thalia shot back.
"He looks like he's really counting on you to save him!" Evelyn thought Michael's expression was off - the way he looked at Thalia had this weird, resentful feeling to it.
"Just because he's counting on me means I have to do it? Is he my husband?"
Not only did Thalia not help, she even leisurely adjusted her position, leaning back against the million-dollar leather seat to watch him.
William, seeing from upstairs that Thalia wasn't making any more moves, hung up the phone.
Downstairs, dozens of bikers surrounded Michael, attacking him. What was even more outrageous was that in such a busy area, there wasn't a single cop around. In his panic, he spotted Thalia watching the show, and without thinking, he broke through the crowd and ran toward Thalia's brand new Cullinan.
Evelyn was stunned.
Thalia wasn't in a rush. She casually rolled down the window and warned the group surrounding Michael. "This car is a limited edition worldwide."
Everyone froze. Anyone who could afford a limited edition car had serious wealth and status. They were here to deal with Michael - no need to offend the wrong people.
They didn't know who she was, but they still had to make a living in Emerald City. Who knows whose toes they might step on and get kicked out.
"Ms. Smith, you don't have to just watch someone die, right? We don't have any serious grudge, do we?"
Michael had already witnessed Thalia's capabilities. In Emerald City, just mentioning her name was enough to make people wary.
That's exactly why he'd been trying so hard to get on Thalia's good side.
Thalia tilted her chin up playfully. "I'd love to save you, but someone wouldn't be happy about it!"
Michael was stunned. Thalia would be afraid of making someone unhappy about something she wanted to do?
"Who?"
"My future husband," Thalia blinked at him. "I'm going to get married someday. Can't be too involved with too many men before the wedding, right?"
"Mr. Jimenez," Before Michael could process what Thalia just said, he heard Henry's voice behind him.
Without thinking twice, he jumped in the car and fled the scene.
If he stayed any longer, he was afraid he'd actually die.
"Who's your future husband?" Evelyn asked once everyone had left.
Thalia clicked her tongue and tossed her hair. "Who knows!"
"You drive my car back," Thalia said.
Evelyn asked, "What about you?"
"I'm going to take care of some business."
"What business?"
………………
When William got in the car reeking of alcohol, before he could even process what had just happened with Thalia in the car, she grabbed him by the collar and pulled him close, sniffing him.
"There's perfume on you! Mr. Brown."
"Nice! You won't let me get involved with other men, but you're hooking up with other women."
William rescued his collar from Thalia's grip and glanced at her.
"Drive."
Finn drove toward Mistwood Hill. Every time Thalia and William bickered, he couldn't bring himself to raise the partition. No other reason - just because Thalia's mouth was too good at telling people off.
Thalia leaned against the car door, watching William. She saw him tug at his tie and toss it carelessly in the car.
He unbuttoned his collar, then started on his cuffs. After fumbling with them unsuccessfully, the man's face showed some impatience.
Thalia grabbed his hand and undid the cuffs for him, rolling up his sleeves, not forgetting to add sarcastically, "If you piss me off and I leave, who's going to undo your cuffs for you?"
"Anyone can undo cuffs."
Thalia could tell William was in a bad mood today. "I already listened to you. You told me not to move, and I didn't move. I didn't even question what you were doing at Eclipse Lounge, and you're taking it out on me?"
As the car entered Mistwood Hill, William turned to look at her. "You call this me taking it out on you?"
"This isn't you taking it out on me?"
"Whatever."
"William, I know you're impatient with me, but I didn't know you were THIS impatient with me."
Before Thalia could finish, William slammed the car door with a bang and strode into the house with big steps.
Leaving Thalia alone in the car.
