"Ms. Mitchell, what a coincidence!"
Eleanor didn't need to turn around to know it was Angelina. "Yeah, quite a coincidence, Ms. Jolie. No blind date for you today?"
"I can't go on blind dates every single day. If I did that, there wouldn't be enough men in Emerald City for me to choose from."
The three of them walked in together.
As Eleanor walked, she studied William's back.
She was still puzzled about what happened at Mistwood Hill.
"Ms. Mitchell, what do you want to ask?" Angelina caught the curiosity in her eyes and leaned over to whisper.
Eleanor replied, "I have lots of questions. Whatever I ask, will you answer?"
"Of course!"
"Anything?"
"What kind of relationship do we have? We've been on blind dates together!"
"Does the top of Mistwood Hill belong to Mr. Brown?"
Angelina's heart skipped a beat. Good thing she'd held something back, or Eleanor would have trapped her.
"Of course not!" What's the top of Mistwood Hill? The entire Mistwood Hill is his, okay?
"No? Mr. Brown controls the best cash flow in Emerald City. So many people in finance have their eyes on that place. Who could be more powerful than him?"
"Plenty of people. If Mr. Brown were really that powerful, he wouldn't be attending this kind of event."
The two chatted as they entered the venue.
Eleanor deliberately sat down next to William, scrolling through her phone aimlessly. A few photos from the film crew flashed by, and William glanced at them.
"Ms. Mitchell, I heard you're short on cash lately and rented out your company building to a film production company?"
"Yeah, gotta increase income and cut costs. Not like you with your huge family business, Mr. Brown." As Eleanor spoke, she placed her phone on the table, showing a photo of Thalia—an unreleased still that was clearly taken by someone from their company. In the photo, Thalia faced the camera with a man standing in front of her, their poses intimate as if filming a kissing scene.
Angelina, passing behind them, saw this and her heart jumped. Oh boy, Thalia's in trouble.
"Ms. Mitchell, you've got photos from the crew that haven't been officially released yet. Aren't you afraid they'll sue you for leaking trade secrets?"
"What secrets?" Eleanor pretended not to understand.
Angelina glanced at the photo on her phone, and Eleanor acted like she just realized. "Oh, this!"
"I'm not really sure," she said, tapping the photo to reveal a group chat.
Someone else in the group chat had taken it.
Angelina looked and clicked her tongue. She could tell—this was deliberately meant to show William and upset him.
As Angelina sat down, she pulled out her phone and sent Thalia a message: [Be careful, stay safe]
Thalia was filming and didn't reply at all.
The symposium lasted two and a half hours. Throughout, Angelina didn't see any extra emotion on William's face, but everyone around him knew that dark mood had been hanging over him the whole time.
When someone reaches a certain level, the whole world treats them with courtesy. For some people, William just being there was a blessing, and naturally, this unspoken mood of his became something everyone tolerated.
Those unfamiliar with him would think this was just his normal demeanor.
When the banquet ended, people exchanged pleasantries as they left.
Several senior figures and others escorted William to the door, the suited businessmen surrounding him like stars around the moon.
Everyone thought tonight's symposium would be a pleasant exchange for Emerald City's business elite.
Unexpectedly, Stefan appeared at the main entrance, blocking his path.
"Mr. Brown, Mr. Steven Jimenez would like to meet with you." Stefan stood before him respectfully. William looked down at him as if examining a criminal.
Finn walked over and pushed him aside. "Mr. Rogers, watch your behavior."
"Do you think it's appropriate to say such things on this occasion?"
Before Stefan could speak, Finn was shoved aside by someone Steven had brought.
He stumbled, and William reached out to steady him.
Under the moonlight, Eleanor vaguely saw a silver ring on his ring finger gleaming. It was just a flash, and she almost thought she'd seen it wrong.
William's cold gaze swept over Steven's people. Supporting Finn as he stood up, he said, "No need to be polite."
Finn said something into his earpiece, and from several black Mercedes nearby, a number of men in black emerged, pinning Steven's people against the wall and beating them up.
"Give Mr. Jimenez a message: Emerald City isn't his territory. He should learn some manners."
Finn glanced at Stefan. "Mr. Rogers, you're getting old. Just because we're letting you go today doesn't mean we will tomorrow."
With that, the group left, got in their cars, and drove off. Two black Mercedes flanked a Bentley in the middle as they sped away.
The polished cars gleamed under the moonlight.
"Mr. Jimenez," Stefan returned to the car and saw Steven's face dark with anger. He lowered his head and called out.
He really hadn't expected that in front of all these Emerald City business people, William wouldn't even pretend—he just had them beaten, showing no mercy.
Swift and decisive, without any hesitation.
And the group of onlookers seemed to accept the beating as normal. Forget speaking up—not one person even lifted a finger to call the police.
"What did he just say to you?"
"He said..." Stefan stammered, afraid to speak.
"Speak," Steven said impatiently.
"He said Emerald City isn't your territory, and told us to follow the rules."

"Your explanation is too formal."
