Chapter 332 Willing to Give Her My Life
"William, the way you're staring at me makes me wonder if I've been cheating on you."
"Thalia, getting all touchy-feely with another man right in front of me - have you forgotten you're married?"
Thalia took a sip of water and looked at William with a smile. "William, the fact that you didn't go down there means this whole thing doesn't really matter to you."
"Do you have to throw that in my face?"
Thalia glanced at Michael standing by the hose, watching him dutifully spray water on his own back, looking completely natural about it, not deliberate at all.
"Drive!"
"What bad luck."
"Michael's been sticking to you like glue lately - don't you have anything to say about that?"
"What should I say? Who's the one who brought him into my life? You, okay? I haven't even asked you to compensate me for emotional distress, and here you are lecturing me?"
"All these scumbags - I have to deal with the mess my dad left behind, and now I have to deal with these people on your end too."
"At least the people on my dad's side are just idiots, easy to handle. But on your end, they're all wolves in sheep's clothing - you can't see them, can't touch them, and they can kill you with one move."
William was practically choking from Thalia's barrage of words. "I say one thing, and you've got a hundred waiting for me."
"That's because what you're saying is nonsense."
"Stop the car." William was furious and barked the order. John jumped, startled, and slammed on the brakes, stopping the car on Mistwood Hill's main road, right at the fork where you could go left or right.
Thalia was speechless.
Her puzzled eyes fell on William.
"I was wrong, I don't know how to talk," Thalia was all about being flexible - Gregory hadn't moved out yet, and if he saw this, wouldn't her lifetime reputation be ruined?
Plus, they were in her business van today.
William was too petty.
"I won't say anything more."
"If you don't want to be involved, you don't have to be."
When did she ever want to be involved? Wasn't she dragged into this from the start? From Zephyrine to Michael now - which one of them didn't come looking for her?
Oh wait, no - Zephyrine was because she wanted to gossip herself, that was her own fault.
Thalia said helplessly, "Fine, whatever you say. Can we go now? I need to use the bathroom."
John was listening intently to their conversation. He'd thought William was a tough guy, but turns out he couldn't resist a few soft words from Thalia?
Thalia was just half-heartedly appeasing him, and it worked - if she was serious about it? William would give her his life.
"Didn't you say you needed the bathroom?"
Thalia had been talking herself hoarse with William in the car. As soon as she got inside, she grabbed a glass and downed two cups of water, then headed downstairs only to be met with William's cold warning stare.
"Drink first, we'll go down together later."
"The bathroom thing was just an excuse, wasn't it, Thalia?"
"Want me to drop my pants and take a dump right here for you to watch? William, come on, let's go to the bathroom and watch me shit."
William was speechless. ........
"Mr. Jimenez, we're not going to the hospital?"
"What hospital?"
"But the burn on your back..." The person hesitated.
Michael pulled out his phone and opened the transfer records, staring at it, wishing he could bore a hole through it.
"William was in that business van."
When Thalia got in the car, although he didn't see clearly when the door opened, he did see the dress pants inside.
Half a pant leg showing outside revealed everything.
Through the car door, that possessive warning gaze made it impossible for him to avoid.
"I've been hearing from people in the circle these past few days that Thalia and William's relationship is quite subtle, maybe not what we think."
"What do we think?" Michael asked back.
The person thought for a moment and continued, "Everyone in Emerald City's circle knows that Thalia has good relationships with all the guys in high society. She's loyal, keeps her promises, gets along with everyone - her relationship with William seems pretty much the same as with everyone else."
He didn't believe it.
A rising business star with unknown wealth - how could someone like that be willing to waste time on things that don't concern them?
Michael sat in the back seat, not daring to lean against the seat back, his whole body wet and sticky, his back especially burning.
All he could think about was Thalia grabbing his shirt - she wasn't clueless at all, she just wanted him to hurt.
...........
"Mom, how are you?" At the hospital, the two daughters-in-law of the Carter family surrounded Penelope's bed, looking worried - where was the impatience they'd shown in the elevator this morning?
Now they were acting all devoted, as if they wished they could suffer in Penelope's place.
Penelope saw the two of them and closed her eyes. "What happened to me?"
"You were in a car accident. The doctor said you need to rest."
"How could I be in a car accident out of nowhere?"
"The traffic police said the driver was driving while fatigued."
Penelope choked up - they had indeed been driving for several hours straight, going back and forth to Regal City.
She moved her body and felt something was wrong.
She looked up at her leg - the leg that had been fine when she arrived was now only half there.
"My leg, what happened to it?"
"The doctor said your leg was crushed too badly in the accident; they couldn't save it."
"Impossible," Penelope's sharp, piercing voice rang out.
The two were stunned, seemingly not expecting Penelope to react this way. In their eyes, even when extremely angry, Penelope would maintain her so-called dignity and never yell in front of people.
But today.........
The two were shocked. "Mom, please don't get upset."
"Get out, send the doctor in."
"What's wrong?" The doctor came in and, seeing Penelope furious, asked about the situation.
"Tell me, what happened to my leg?"
"It was crushed too badly, and couldn't be saved. To prevent the whole leg from dying, we had to amputate."
"Did you get my consent?"
"We're doctors, we're professionals."
"Quacks, absolute quacks. Get a doctor from Regal City here." Penelope had been proud her whole life and never bowed her head, but now, in her old age, she'd lost a leg - this was the humiliation of her life.
Simply unacceptable.
"What's wrong? Your face is as dark as if someone owes you money."
"Remember that emergency case I took last night? She's saying I sawed off her leg, calling me a quack."
Amara scoffed. "Who hasn't been cursed at?"
She patted her colleague's shoulder. "Don't take it to heart."
