Chapter 311 Aren't There Many Infertility Specialty Hospitals Now?
"So it's all calculated, no feelings involved?" Thalia asked.
Grace glanced at Thalia. "Do you have feelings for Chase?"
Thalia awkwardly touched her nose. "You're busy, I'll get going."
As night fell, Thalia returned to Mistwood Hill during rush hour.
At Belleville, William's trip, originally scheduled to end tomorrow, finished a day early. The airport arrangements were made, and he was preparing to fly back to Emerald City overnight.
At this rate, he wouldn't arrive in Emerald City until tomorrow.
"Mr. Brown, the documents."
Brian, sitting in the passenger seat, handed over some documents. William took them and was just about to open them.
Suddenly, a car next to them swerved sharply and crashed toward them. The documents in his hands scattered on the floor.
Instantly, the three cars following William changed lanes abruptly, blocking off the approaching car.
They trapped it behind them.
Finn was driving and was about to breathe a sigh of relief when a heavy truck charged out from the street corner. The truck was armed, and bullets hit the glass with dull thuds. Fortunately, the car had bulletproof glass, otherwise they might not have made it out alive today.
"Mr. Brown..."
"Get down, cover your head."
Brian had never seen anything like this before. He was shaking all over. Finn held the steering wheel with one hand and pushed Brian down under the passenger seat with the other.
"Mr. Brown, they came prepared."
"Lose them first, call Nicholas and tell him to bring people."
William had made a name for himself young and had spent time abroad. Without going through some things, he wouldn't be in his current position. Staying calm in the face of danger was basic for him.
It was also fortunate that he had a high sense of vigilance, which allowed them to shake off their pursuers safely.
Finn drove all the way to a private estate, with the truck still in hot pursuit.
"Give me the gun."
Finn opened the hidden compartment in the center console and handed over a gun. William had just taken it when he opened the car door, lowered his body, leaned out sideways, and fired a shot at the tire.
After the car behind them blew a tire, it crashed into the woods on the side.
Finn drove all the way into the private estate with everyone.
Before long, someone came in dragging captives. "Mr. Brown, bounty hunters."
In the living room of the private estate, William was unbuttoning his white shirt. Nicholas came over with a medical kit. When the shirt came off, revealing glass shards embedded in his arm, Nicholas's heart skipped a beat. "Should I call a doctor?"
William glanced at Finn, who understood. People who spent a lot of time out in the field dealt with minor injuries like this themselves. Calling a doctor would waste too much time.
"Let me do it!" Finn took out sterilized tweezers and carefully pulled out the glass fragments from his arm, then bandaged it up.
"Where are they?"
"Locked in the basement."
"Did you get anything out of them?" Nicholas asked.
"Can't get anything. These bounty hunters work for money; they won't know who's behind it."
"So we just let this go?" Nicholas was unwilling. They had killed two of their men!
The bodies were still warm. Were they really helpless?
William lit a cigarette, leaned back on the sofa, took a light drag, his expression dark and unreadable.
Nicholas added, "I still can't accept this..."
"Kill them!" William snapped.
"Understood."
Nicholas was speechless.
After Finn left, Nicholas looked at the man sitting on the sofa smoking. His expression was listless, as if the cigarette in his hand could take away all his worries, like it was his cure for anxiety.
This was William.
The William that Thalia never got to see.
At this moment, his long blue eyes were dark and murky, hiding clouds and stirring fog, revealing no emotion.
"Do you know who it is?"
William leaned forward and tapped ash into the ashtray, his thin lips parting slightly. "Probably."
"Not going after them?"
The man raised his hand to smoke and said, "No rush."
He seemed to be waiting for something, and whatever he was waiting for was extremely important to him.
Nicholas knew that even if he asked, William wouldn't say.
William calmed his emotions. After a long while, he instructed Nicholas, "Don't mention what happened today to anyone after we get back to Emerald City."
"Including Thalia?"
"Especially her."
"I'm curious, do you not want her to know because you don't want her to worry, or simply because you don't want her to know?"
William asked, "What's the difference?"
"There's a big difference. The former is love..."
"Oh!" William didn't answer his question, but he understood in his heart. Those who shout loudly don't necessarily have love, and those who are silent don't necessarily lack it. Whether there's love or not, you know it yourself. It's a matter of willingness, not worth making a big deal about.
...
In the early morning hours, Thalia was half asleep.
She felt like she was being held down by a ghost, and a perverted one at that. At the age of twenty-something, she was having her first wet dream about a man.
In this dream, she tossed and turned, unable to wake up no matter what.
Suddenly, with a gasp, like someone falling off a cliff, she jolted awake from the dream.
Opening her eyes, she saw a man on top of her.
Without thinking, Thalia jerked her knee up and kicked the man in the crotch, then slapped him across the face.
"Thalia, I'm going to kill you."
William?
Thalia looked at the man bent over on the bed, gasping for air, and turned on the bedside lamp.
Oh no, oh no. If she broke it, would her happiness for the rest of her life end here?
"Are you... okay? I didn't know it was you! You scared me."
"Let me see."
"Get lost, don't touch me."
Thalia's face fell. "It's over. Is my happiness for the rest of my life going to end here?"
William was speechless.
Thalia asked, "Should we go to the hospital?"
"Don't be embarrassed. Aren't there a lot of fertility specialist hospitals now? Men's clinics work too. I'll go with you."
"Thalia, shut up," William snapped.
Thalia looked utterly dejected, her face falling as she half-lay on the bed looking at William. She blinked her eyes cutely, trying to get William to forgive her. "I was just dreaming. In my dream, I was being violated by a man on top of me. I was terrified. When I woke up, I found there really was someone on top of me. It was a subconscious reaction. You won't blame me, will you? Considering how much I value my chastity, won't you forgive me? Please?"
"I will definitely be someone who would rather die than submit in the future. No matter who comes to me asking me to change husbands, I'll definitely refuse even if it kills me. Considering how principled I am, shouldn't you be happy?" As Thalia spoke, she reached out and poked William's arm.
By sheer bad luck, she poked his wound.
In that instant, William felt his cock hurt, his arm hurt, his face hurt, and even his internal organs were singing out wanting to kill Thalia.
"Didn't you tell me last time that you liked those wife-murder cases?"
