Chapter 305 No Marriage, No Children, Ensuring Safety
"Yeah!"
"I've fallen in love."
A casual question paired with a dead-serious answer—no matter how they looked at it, Thalia had lost.
In the world of feelings, whoever gets serious first loses.
But at the same time, there was another saying: sincerity was unbeatable.
William was the sincere one. Compared to Thalia's evasiveness, for him, liking someone meant liking them, and love meant love.
No beating around the bush.
"Is liking someone embarrassing?"
"Hm?" William pressed.
Thalia didn't respond. William kept asking, "Or do you think loving someone is embarrassing?"
"I'm afraid of future trouble," just like with Hayden—it would only leave behind a bunch of problems.
"What trouble?" William asked.
"What in this world isn't troublesome? You have to pour water before drinking it, go to the bathroom after eating, oand pen the car door before getting in. What you see as trouble is just a normal process to me. Pure things, good things—they're all complex and delicate."
"Thalia, a bag you buy from a street stall won't have the same value as one you buy from a boutique."
"They're the same. How are they different? Don't they both hold stuff?"
"I'm not dating. Stop trying to talk me into it."
"No marriage, no kids—stay safe."
William said helplessly, "Just stay in your shell then! Keep hiding and see if you can stay unaffected in the end."
He got angry, stood up abruptly, and strode toward the second floor.
Thalia watched his retreating figure. Having finally won a round, she called out unwillingly, "We're just chatting—why are you getting mad?"
Fallon was speechless after seeing that.
.........
The next morning, Thalia was still sleeping.
When Ella called and saw no one was picking up after a while, she knew Thalia wasn't up yet.
She sent her a dozen messages.
When Thalia woke up and checked, the latest one was a screenshot—a photo of her driving away from Willow Lake Estate heading up Mistwood Hill.
"What about the photo?" Thalia asked.
"They're saying you're being kept. Do you know what Mistwood Hill in Emerald City means, Thalia? Can you be more careful in crowded places?"
"Did it trend?"
"No, I spent ten million dollars to buy it down for you."
Thalia added, "When did I become worth so much?"
"The photo was probably released by someone with intentions. Think about who it could be."
"Don't need to think. Scarlett."
She didn't even want to waste brain cells on something so obvious.
"You offended her again?"
"More than that. But shouldn't William handle the photo thing for me? Why did we have to spend our own money to buy it?"
"Why don't you ask Mr. Brown why he didn't control it this time?"
Thalia's heart skipped a beat. Could William be holding a grudge from last night?
"Fallon, where's William?" Thalia grabbed a robe and threw it on. Just as she reached the stairs, she saw Fallon watering the orchids in the house with a watering can.
"Mrs. Brown, Mr. Brown said he's on a business trip this week."
"Where did he go?"
"Mr. Brown didn't say." The master's whereabouts generally weren't shared with servants, so he didn't feel right asking too much.
Last night, these two had an unpleasant chat in the living room. Did they fight again after going upstairs?
Thalia picked up her phone and called William. It showed no one answered.
Private jets have signals too. No answer only meant one thing—he wasn't taking her calls?
Thalia hung up and sent a message to Angelina.
She quickly replied: [Belleville]
Thalia was speechless.
He'd promised to take her shopping in Zephyria, but left on his own. That's men for you.
.........
"You're not even answering Thalia's calls?"
"Did you fight?"
"You're living more and more boldly, even daring to fight with her? Aren't you afraid someone will take advantage and steal your wife?"
Nicholas looked at the phone buzzing on the table and kept mocking him.
"I heard all about last night. The story of Thalia beating Jack with her intelligence is spreading all over Emerald City now. Everyone used to think Thalia was just a pretty face, but it turns out she's got knowledge—she just doesn't show off."
"And you're fighting with her? Isn't that giving others an opportunity?"
"Thalia as a friend is great—generous, straightforward personality. But as a wife, she's lacking. Low moral standards, her life motto is just making herself happy. You fight with her? Aren't you afraid she'll just go off and enjoy herself?"
"Shut up!" William got annoyed and coldly threw out those two words.
Nicholas shrugged indifferently.
The person involved didn't feel it, but the observers felt today's low pressure could freeze someone to death. Brian and several executives unconsciously moved to the side to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
.........
"You're asking me out for drinks? Do you know when the last time we drank together was?" Evelyn was surprised when she got Thalia's call.
Since marrying William, the number of times Thalia had asked someone out for drinks at night could be counted on one hand. What was going on now?
Out of nowhere, drinks.
"I forgot."
"What? Not staying home to be a good wife anymore?"
"Be a good wife alone?"
"Where's Mr. Brown?"
"On a business trip."
Evelyn added, "So are you now a wild horse that's broken free or a pig that's escaped the pen?"
"I'm a fairy returning to Wonderland. Cut the crap and get here."
Emerald City had no shortage of places to have fun, but today Thalia specifically chose Aurora Tower.
Others might not know, but how could she not? This was William's territory.
"Aren't you being too bold?"
"Bold?" Thalia asked back. Not bold at all.
She just wanted William to know.
In the club on the first floor, Thalia had just sat down in a booth and hadn't figured out what to do yet when Evelyn felt that this kind of scene with just two people was too boring.
So she called over a whole bunch of people, and the booth was instantly packed.
Thalia had just shone at Scarlett's birthday party yesterday, so when everyone saw her today, they all flattered her.
"Who's that woman?" On the other side, Gregory followed Michael's gaze and saw Thalia sitting in the middle of a crowd from afar, chatting about something, having a great time.
"From the look on your face, you know her?" Michael fished for information.
