Chapter 288 Immediate Remarriage
"Stefan, if this really isn't working, should we find someone to help us?"
They'd been in Emerald City for so many days now, completely out of their depth. Every time they tried to reach out to people, they got brushed off. The Browns were especially stubborn, completely unwilling to deal with them. At this rate, when would they ever get to meet anyone!
Steven was pushing them hard, but they weren't making any progress at all.
"I heard that Zephyrine's husband Kurt has business dealings with him. Should we get someone to arrange an introduction? What do you think?"
After all, the Carter family owed a debt to the Jimenez family.
Stefan rubbed his temples with some frustration. "Let me think about it."
This matter really couldn't be dragged out any longer. If they kept delaying, who knew what kind of situation they'd end up in.
"People from Regal City say other heirs have come down here. I'm worried something might go wrong."
The dirty tricks of family heirs were beyond words. Everyone would use any means necessary to take lives for a bit of profit. Other people's lives meant nothing to them at all.
"This is just ridiculous." Stefan slammed the table in anger. At a time like this, they were still having internal family conflicts?
"We need to seize the opportunity and not let them take advantage, otherwise the consequences will be terrible."
...........
"Whose call is it?" Gregory asked.
"Mr. Michael Jimenez's," During a break in the variety show filming, Luca came over with Gregory's phone: "Must be urgent. He's called over a dozen times tonight."
"Give it to me." Gregory took the phone and found a spot away from the crew's cameras to answer. After they exchanged a few pleasantries, Luca was under the eaves trying to light a cigarette, but before he could even light it, he saw Gregory coming back with the phone.
Gregory asked, "What's wrong?"
Michael replied, "Nothing, I'm in Emerald City now."
"Oh."
Luca thought about it - Michael and Gregory had always had a good relationship and spent a lot of time together. Since he knew Gregory was in Emerald City, it made sense to call and check in.
"Get some rest early."
Outside Gregory's room, seeing that the light in Thalia's room was already off, he moved much more quietly. The production team deliberately captured a few extra shots with their cameras.
Early the next morning, Thalia was woken by rooster crows. She pulled off her eye mask and sat on the bed in a daze, scratching her hair.
The crew was ruthless - to create buzz, they didn't even give them a chance to put on makeup, completely sacrificing their image.
"They're filming already?"
"Yes."
Thalia looked groggily at the production crew. "Not even a chance to do makeup?"
"Gregory's already made breakfast."
"Oh no! I'm done for, I'm going to get roasted."
Gregory's fans had the number one fighting power in the universe. If she let Gregory cook breakfast alone in the kitchen this early in the morning while she was still sleeping in, wouldn't she get criticized to death?
Thalia quickly got up. When she reached the kitchen door, sure enough, she saw Gregory busy in the kitchen.
"Gregory, you're not giving me any chance to shine? I'm going to get criticized for this." Thalia complained.
Gregory asked, "Why would you get criticized?"
"I don't even need to think about it - I know the comments are already starting, saying I'm lazy, that you're cooking while I'm still sleeping and stuff like that."
"It won't be that bad. Go wash up, it'll be ready soon."
When Thalia came back after washing up, Gregory had set up a table in the courtyard. Early morning, light mist, slightly cool, with white clouds wrapping around the mountains in the distance. Looking at this scene, Thalia felt healed.
"Do you like this kind of environment?" She tried to make conversation.
"I do. What about you?"
"I like it, but this kind of liking can only be temporary. I'm not suited to living here."
Gregory handed her a glass of milk. "Why not?"
"I don't have good survival skills."
"That's not important, just stay with me."
"I feel like our next project could be a farming story - a rich heiress accidentally ends up in a small mountain village and meets a hardworking, kind male lead."
Gregory choked. What kind of cheesy literature was this?
"Or it could be a wealthy heiress whose family goes bankrupt, and she's chased by enemies and hides in a small mountain village..."
"Eat your food."
"Oh, okay."
Realizing this was being livestreamed, Gregory cut her off in time.
.........
"Mr. Brown?"
At the Mistwood Hill villa, William sat alone at the dining table. The man who usually only read financial papers in the morning was surprisingly watching a livestream on his iPad today.
That would have been fine, but his expression was getting worse and worse, scaring everyone in the house into holding their breath, not daring to even breathe loudly.
"Speak."
"Ms. Jolie is here."
"Let her in."
As soon as Angelina entered, she saw the iPad in front of William. She didn't need to guess whose variety show he was watching. "You're in such a leisurely mood, watching variety shows first thing in the morning?"
"Ms. Jolie, would you like breakfast?" Fallon asked.
Angelina nodded, "Thanks."
As soon as Fallon left, Angelina propped her chin on her hand and leaned over to watch the show with William. "Is this Gregory confessing?"
"Thalia still can't forget about him, thinking about working together again."
"Sigh, how sad. Tell me, after you two divorce in two years, will Thalia immediately marry another man?"
"Mr. Brown, your position is in danger."
"Shut up." The man's voice was low and hoarse. He glanced sideways at Angelina. Watching was one thing, but providing commentary too? Did she think he wasn't frustrated enough?
Angelina shrugged and sat across from William. "Someone's been investigating you recently, spreading out from you as the center, from Emerald City properties all the way to Russia. They're even looking into the Wilson family and the Jackson family. I've already given Daniel and Nicholas a heads up. How do you want to handle this?"
"Don't handle it. It's just internal conflict within the Jimenez family. They haven't reached me yet, so it's not worth wasting my energy on. How's things with Kurt?"
Angelina pulled an invitation from her bag and waved it. "You guessed right. Zephyrine's out of money, so she's making her move."
"Kurt probably doesn't know about this yet."
............
Thalia finished recording the show and returned to Emerald City that evening. When she arrived at the airport, it was already around 2 AM.
She was on the same flight back as Gregory. To avoid letting Gregory know they were going the same way, she deliberately went back to the Smith Villa instead of Mistwood Hill.
"Ms. Smith, you're not going back to Mistwood Hill because you don't want Gregory to know you also live at Mistwood Hill?"
"Yeah." Thalia nodded.
"Should we let Mr. Brown know?"
"He's probably asleep."
Thalia picked up her phone then put it down again. On the other side, Luca kept watching the movements of the car behind them.
"Isn't Thalia on the same route as us? Why did she turn?"
