Chapter 268 A Campout With Male Escorts
"Mr. Ward, please don't say that. I should be the one begging you, not the other way around!" Evelyn joked with Rainey cheerfully.
Rainey looked at Evelyn helplessly. He'd tried everything but couldn't find Thalia herself.
There were rumors going around that Nora and William were having an affair, but he didn't buy it.
If William really liked Nora, why would Thalia still be around? Plus, the way those two acted didn't look like there was nothing going on between them.
Add in all those previous rumors, and it definitely seemed like something was up.
Rainey added, "Ms. Thomas, I'm really at my wit's end here, aren't I?"
Evelyn declined, "Mr. Ward, it's not that I don't want to help, I genuinely can't."
"Please don't put me in this position. Think about it this way - Thalia and I are friends. If I do something she doesn't like, we might not be friends tomorrow. Please don't make this hard for me, okay? Mr. Ward, if you keep this up, I'll have to avoid you when I see you."
Rainey thought for a moment, then scratched his head helplessly. "Then Ms. Thomas, can you at least give me a hint?"
"Who was that guy?" a designer at the company asked curiously as soon as Rainey left.
"A mall owner," Evelyn answered.
"Looking for Thalia?" the designer continued.
"Yeah."
"Isn't Thalia pretty easy to find? Don't celebrities always get photographed at events? He could just keep an eye out."
Evelyn smiled without saying anything. Sure, seeing her would be easy, but finding the right excuse to sit down together and clear up misunderstandings - that wasn't easy.
Everyone's shrewd, everyone's after their own interests.
Who didn't want to handle things perfectly?
The next afternoon, Thalia asked Evelyn out for coffee.
"What do you want to do after this show wraps up?" Evelyn asked.
Hearing this, Thalia grinned mischievously and handed over her phone. On the screen was an event advertisement. "A campout with male escorts?"
"Aren't you afraid William will kill you?"
"Just don't let him know. Interested?"
"Where did you hear about this?"
This kind of event usually required someone to bring her in. It was only open to divorced wealthy women, and they even verified assets - checked divorce certificates and bank accounts. Pretty twisted. A disguised sex party, basically. This kind of information normally wouldn't reach Thalia unless someone told her.
"Layla. She's a regular at these clubs."
Evelyn had forgotten - Layla was divorced and wealthy, so she was exactly their target customer.
"Leave the poor woman alone! If William finds out Layla took you to this kind of place, won't he fire her?" Evelyn tried to talk her out of it.
"I'm the boss," Thalia replied.
"You still can't outsmart him."
'What good is being smart when you still got tricked into marrying William?' Evelyn thought.
"Do you have to be so harsh? I'm so bored! How about you go shopping with me instead!" Thalia sighed.
Evelyn was speechless.
She scratched her head and reluctantly agreed.
Just as she picked up her cup to take a sip of coffee, she saw Elowen in a princess dress slip into a booth behind them.
Evelyn kicked Thalia under the table.
Thalia followed her gaze and spotted her too.
"Has Raymond contacted you since last time?" Evelyn asked.
"No," Thalia replied.
Evelyn added, "Guess who Elowen's here to see today?"
Thalia glanced at her. "How would I know?"
"Guess?"
"No."
Evelyn found her boring and clicked her tongue. "If she was meeting a friend, she'd be perfectly made up and walking calmly. The way she's rushing around, it doesn't look like she's meeting a friend - more like she's here to catch someone cheating."
Sure enough, as soon as Evelyn finished speaking, a scream came from the booth. "Are you crazy? What are you doing?"
Elowen leaned out halfway, glaring furiously at a woman, pointing at her nose. "I should be asking you that! Do you know the man you're hugging has a fiancée?"
"You have a fiancée? Didn't you say you were single?" Hearing Elowen's words, the woman instantly exploded, glaring at Raymond.
She grabbed the coffee from the table and poured it right on his head. "You're disgusting! You have a fiancée and you're still hitting on me? I curse you with erectile dysfunction."
Evelyn was stunned. "Damn, she's just like you!"
This woman was brutal with her words - wasn't she just an upgraded version of Thalia?
It was really exciting.
Thalia glared at her, then continued resting her chin on her hand, watching the show.
In the booth, they could vaguely see Raymond pick up a napkin and wipe the water off his face, his tone mild and unbothered. "Satisfied?"
"Elowen, aren't you embarrassed? Since it's an arranged marriage, let's each get what we need. You do your thing, I do mine, we get married when it's time, and everyone's happy. Why do this?"
"Want me to settle down? Look at yourself first!"
Elowen's face went pale at Raymond's words. "What do you mean?"
"Don't you get it? Whether it's your looks, your education, or this..." Raymond pointed to his head. "None of it's worth me coming back."
"Instead of wasting your time, you should work on yourself. Stop spending all your time on men. You're always online - haven't you seen that saying? A woman's tragedy begins when she focuses too much on men." Raymond tossed the napkin on the table, stood up and looked at Elowen, his contempt unconcealed.
He looked down on Elowen - that was a fact. The Mitchell family wasn't what it used to be. It was only staying afloat thanks to Eleanor's business skills. Otherwise, the Mitchell family would be an empty shell by now.
Not as pretty as Eleanor, not as educated, not as smart.
People who couldn't measure up have problems everywhere.
"You think you're any better? Playboy, good-for-nothing, not helping your family, just partying all day. You say I'm stupid? Why don't you look at yourself? The Carter family has deep roots and great wealth, but in your hands it's come down to arranged marriages. Raymond, I'm giving you face, so you'd better take it."
"You really think you're still the heir of the Carter family? The Carter family is failing, the Lowe family is failing, the family's falling apart, and you're still casually spending millions on a woman."
Raymond laughed, walked up to Elowen casually, and said softly, "I want to. What are you going to do about it?"
"You..." Elowen was furious and turned to grab at him.
But when she turned around, she saw Evelyn and Thalia sitting not far away with their chins propped up, watching the show.
