Kurt couldn't reach William or see him in person, so he could only come up with the lousy idea of having Nora actively approach William at the banquet.
But a day had passed since then, and not only had there been no good news, they'd been played by someone else.

Isia glanced at Kurt: "We found out. Apparently Mr. Brown's reputation at the Emerald City Bar Association was too strong, blocking certain people's path to promotion. Someone with an agenda captured it and posted it online. We've found who did it."
Before Kurt could say anything, Zephyrine set down her coffee cup, the bracelet on her wrist making a sound as it hit the edge of the table.
"Which law firm?"
"GlobalBridge Law Firm," Isia said somewhat cautiously. GlobalBridge Law Firm had some history with them. Back when William wasn't in Emerald City yet, GlobalBridge Law Firm was the top law firm in Emerald City, and they'd worked together a few times.
They were acquaintances, you could say.
But later, as the Lowe Group's legal department gradually matured, their connection with GlobalBridge Law Firm faded.
Zephyrine glanced at Kurt: "Kurt, what do you think?"
"Forget it, we'll figure something out."

William frowned slightly: "How did he die?"
"They're saying car accident," Brian found it strange. Out of nowhere, just dead? And from a car accident? Everyone knew that during rush hour in Emerald City, traffic was so jammed you couldn't move an inch, couldn't even reach twenty miles per hour, yet someone died in a car accident there!
If this accident wasn't deliberate, he didn't believe it.
The key thing was they'd just found out this morning that this person had smeared William, and by afternoon the person was gone. Who was so helpful? Directly eliminated the person for them.
William vaguely guessed whose handiwork this was. Had Kurt gotten so angry he lashed out?

Back at Maple Grove Villas, Thalia had just finished showering and was wearing loungewear, crouching on the carpet playing with the cat. Fallon waited at a distance, and seeing William return, she entered the foyer to take the coat from his arm.
William waved his hand, signaling them to leave.
"Cheesy, come here!" William sat on the sofa and patted his leg. The Ragdoll cat jumped onto his lap.
Thalia shook her head: "What a lustful cat."
"The partner at GlobalBridge Law Firm is dead."
"Who?"
"The person I told you about last night who took the photos."
"Just suddenly died?"
William stroked the cat while chatting with Thalia: "Not suddenly."
"Kurt did it?"
"Kurt isn't exactly upstanding, but he definitely wouldn't think of these kinds of dirty tricks..."
Before William could finish, Thalia knew: "Zephyrine did it?"
"I heard my mom mention her, saying she fought her way out among capital city elite families, the most successful of all the sisters in her family. These years, though she's been playing the wealthy wife, Kurt's had her making decisions behind many things. She strikes ruthlessly, straight for the vital point."
Zephyrine was no pushover. Over the years, ninety-nine percent of Kurt's moves involving this kind of thing were Zephyrine's doing.
"Very likely."
"At a time like this, shouldn't Mr. Brown step in to clear the name of GlobalBridge Law Firm's partner? Then you'd have evidence of Zephyrine killing someone. What couldn't you get with that?"
"Mrs. Brown is quite the strategist."
Mocking her?
"Don't tell me you weren't thinking the same thing," she could think of it, and William had probably already started working on it. Since he wanted the Lowe Group, he wouldn't casually give up any opportunity.
William smiled without speaking.
Thalia lost interest in chatting. She rolled her eyes and picked up her phone to check Messenger. Evelyn's message was at the top.
"Evelyn wants to meet for drinks."
William didn't restrict Thalia's freedom. He pretty much knew that whenever she talked about going out to find handsome guys, she was just talking. If you really made her go find other men, she couldn't do it.
Thalia was smart!
"Go after dinner."
"That's what I was thinking."
Drinking was only fun after dark.
Thalia put down her phone and prepared to get up from the carpet. Just as she braced herself against the coffee table to stand, William reached out and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her onto his lap.
"What?"
"I want to do something, but I'm afraid you won't want to."
This sentence made Thalia's spine tingle...
"Mr. Brown comes straight home from work every day, doesn't work overtime or attend business dinners, spends all his time wrapped up in romance - aren't you afraid the company will collapse?"
William laughed: "Who told you that keeping a company running only depends on overtime and business dinners?"
"Even if you don't work overtime or attend dinners, shouldn't you still be busy?"
"Getting tired of me?"
"Am I being that obvious?" Thalia pretended to be surprised. William's hand rested on her waist, slowly rubbing, his smile-tinged expression seeming to want to see through Thalia's face into her heart.
"You can't even be bothered to pretend."
"Since Mr. Brown knows I can't even be bothered to pretend, shouldn't you have some self-awareness?"
"Mrs. Brown, when you need me you wish you could have me glued to you, when you don't want me you wish you could kick me off the planet. That's a double standard!"
Thalia didn't speak.
After a long while, William leaned down and whispered something in her ear that made Thalia blush.

"What are you thinking about? Chin in your hand, with a shy smile on your face."
As soon as Evelyn entered the bar, she saw Thalia covering her face, unable to suppress the smile at the corners of her lips.
"You're late, Ms. Thomas."
"I could have been early, but my dad pulled me aside to talk about something as I was leaving."
"What?"
"My dad said Rainey went around everywhere and found his way to him, wanting him to arrange a dinner with you."
Rainey was quite the smooth operator. Thalia's fingers rubbed against her glass, deep thoughts churning in her eyes, thinking that William still hadn't helped her deal with this matter.
"What did your dad say?"
"Don't you know my dad? Of course he didn't agree!"
"Wait... isn't that Emma? Who's that old guy next to her?"
Thalia followed Evelyn's gaze and saw Emma dressed provocatively, holding a man's arm as they entered a private room on the second floor.
"Some CEO from Emerald City."
Evelyn was puzzled: "You know him?"
"Met him once," Thalia said.
"I'm going to confront her." Evelyn set down her glass and headed toward Emma.
Thalia didn't want trouble and reached out to stop her: "Don't look for a bad time."
"This is a bad time? This is revenge, okay?"
Had Emma done few bad things before?
Now the Wood family was almost bankrupt - such a good opportunity, shouldn't she treasure it?
