Chapter 204 A Glass of Wine Splashed on Thalia's Face
In the evening, Thalia returned to her apartment after filming. She kicked off her shoes, went in for a quick shower, and came out. By the time it got dark, William still hadn't shown up.
After thinking it over, she decided to make a call.
"Mr. Brown, you're so busy!"
On the other end, William was standing in the hallway taking the call, with a ragdoll cat crouching at his feet.
He pulled out his phone to check the time - seven-thirty.
No wonder she was calling: "I'll come over around ten."
Thalia was about to say something when she heard two meows: "You're at home?"
"Yes."
"Then why don't you bring me some food?"
"Okay."
"Mr. Brown, if I screenshot this conversation, would it count as evidence later?" Thalia lay on the sofa, swinging her legs.
William was just about to bend down and pet the attention-seeking cat when he heard Thalia's words. He couldn't help but laugh in exasperation: "Want to eat?"
"Yes!"
"I'd suggest you go eat shit instead."
Thalia was about to curse back when that bastard William hung up, and he did it lightning fast.
She held her phone, so angry she wanted to swear.
"Lucky you hung up quick."
Before Thalia could recover from William's move, she got a call from Aaron, asking her to come out for a dinner gathering.
"Now? But I've already showered and was getting ready to rest!"
"Just come, come on. I've already called Gregory too. The investors are here and specifically asked to meet the lead actors. I have no choice."
Aaron was in a difficult position. He didn't want to deal with this kind of unnecessary socializing either, but they were the investors, so there was no way around it.
"Alright, I'll come." This was just how the entertainment industry worked. Aaron was actually one of the good ones - he didn't like socializing himself and didn't force his actors to do these things.
If it were another director, they'd probably have to socialize every day.
"Dress plainly."
This was a reminder, and Thalia understood. At drinking tables, whether female celebrities dressed conservatively or provocatively largely depended on their own willingness. Some female celebrities who wanted to latch onto investors' coattails would dress very provocatively.
When Thalia arrived, Gregory was just sitting down. The investors were incredibly friendly when they saw him - after all, having a double-award-winning film emperor from the big screen come to save the day was giving them all face.
If it weren't for Gregory back then, their drama's billions in investment would have gone to waste.
"Thalia's here, come, come, sit next to Gregory," Aaron immediately took the initiative when he saw Thalia, afraid these investors would pull Thalia to sit next to them and make her drink with them.
Sure enough, as soon as Aaron finished speaking, the investor's hand that was reaching out to greet Thalia froze in mid-air.
Thalia acted as if she hadn't seen it and sat down next to Gregory. The atmosphere in the private room became awkward for a moment, until Gregory raised his glass to make a toast.
"I've seen some behind-the-scenes footage online. Gregory and Thalia sitting together really are a perfect match. Our show hasn't even aired yet, but it's already getting popular."
"Aaron really has the skills!"
Aaron modestly waved his hand: "That's all the result of everyone in the crew working together. When everyone works as one, nothing is impossible."
"Online, everyone's praising Ms. Smith!" The investor suddenly turned the conversation to Thalia.
Thalia smiled lightly: "That's all Gregory's doing."
"Come, let's switch seats," the investor walked over to Thalia's other side with his glass and patted a crew member's shoulder. His intention was obvious.
If he asked Gregory to switch seats, Gregory would refuse, but if he asked the crew member, they wouldn't dare refuse.
So the seat next to Thalia was taken just like that.
"Ms. Smith, have a drink?"
"Aaron told me to lose weight! He set a rule that I have to lose weight in two days, or it'll affect how I look on camera. He's worried the audience will criticize the show when it airs."
When Aaron heard Thalia say this, he quickly agreed: "This... yes, that's right."
"So Ms. Smith came today to be a lucky charm?" The investor was clearly unhappy.
Gregory had seen this kind of scene many times. He raised his glass across Thalia, trying to drink on her behalf: "If Mr. Carr doesn't mind, I'll take this drink for her?"
When Alfonso Carr heard this, he still gave Gregory some face.
After all, he'd heard that Gregory's family had deep roots in the capital, and there were plenty of people who had to show him respect.
Alfonso snorted, his hand naturally falling on Thalia's thigh, supporting himself on her leg, half his body leaning against her as he reached across to clink glasses with Gregory.
Just as the glasses were about to touch, Thalia's body tilted, Alfonso's hand lost its grip, and he almost fell to the ground.
"Mr. Carr, are you okay! Is the chair broken?" Thalia blinked innocently at him, taking the initiative to strike first.
"You..."
"What's wrong? Was Mr. Carr just trying to lean on me? No way! This is a proper production crew, not Eclipse Lounge. If Mr. Carr needs that kind of thing, I can call right now?"
Alfonso threw his glass of alcohol in Thalia's face: "Sharp-tongued."
"Mr. Carr, what's the meaning of this?" Aaron quickly stood up, trying to smooth things over.
Thalia was so angry she grabbed the hot soup from the table and threw it on him: "You throw a drink at me? Who the hell do you think you are? You're just an investor. In terms of wealth, you're below me. Do you really think just because you have some money I should put up with you?"
"You look like a dead pig. Don't you have a mirror at home? At least you should have urine to look at your reflection! I came to eat dinner to give you face. Do you really think I'm one of those small-time celebrities who depend on the entertainment industry to survive?"
"You... you... you..." Alfonso was scalded and couldn't speak for a long time. If Thalia had thrown that pot of soup on his face, it would have disfigured him.
"Me what? You can't even speak properly, and you want to play with women? Are you even an adult? Can your dick even get hard? Have your pubes grown in yet?"
Alfonso was so insulted by Thalia he rolled his eyes. Seeing Aaron looking at him without any intention of smoothing things over, he understood. He nodded repeatedly: "Fine, you're all so capable, aren't you? I'm withdrawing my investment."
"Thalia, just wait for me to blacklist you!"
When Aaron heard about withdrawing the investment, he panicked. He was about to speak when Thalia stopped him: "What's the rush? I'll invest."
"Twenty billion dollars, Thalia."
Thalia: ...
Shit, she'd spoken too soon.
Gregory saw Thalia's frustrated expression and couldn't help but laugh: "I..."
"My mom has money. I'll have the money sent to you tomorrow."
"Good, good, good, Thalia, just you wait."
Alfonso tugged at his shirt, trying to keep it from sticking to his skin.
When he got downstairs, he saw Thalia's van parked at the hotel entrance and told his assistant to go smash it.
"What are you doing? Don't you know that's illegal?" Isla had been resting in the car and was startled awake by the sound of breaking glass.
When she chased after them, she saw them drive away.
"Which bastard was that? If I see you, I'll cut off your dick."
"Follow them," a black Maybach that was about to head to the film city apartments saw Isla rush out of the film city's biggest hotel, pointing at the car ahead and cursing.
Finn didn't dare delay and stepped on the gas to chase after them...
