Chapter 277 Be Careful In The Future
Chapter 277 Be Careful In The Future
Vera's POV
Bill was visibly elated. With a warm smile, he took my hand and led me onto the stage, his voice resonating with authority. "As the evening comes to a close, I want to thank everyone for joining us. But before we wrap up, I have one more important announcement to make."
All eyes turned to the stage, curiosity piqued about what the big news could be.
Bill smiled broadly. "My granddaughter, Vera, will be keeping the Green surname out of gratitude for the family that raised her. I support her decision. And starting tomorrow, Vera will officially join Grant Group. I hope all of you, our dear friends and associates, will support and guide her."
The moment those words left his mouth, I turned to look at Bill in surprise.
I'd been planning to join Grant Group. But I'd expected it would take some persuasion, some back-and-forth negotiation. I never imagined Bill would announce it himself, so publicly and decisively.
It was clear now. Bill had fully accepted me.
"Is Mr. Grant grooming her to inherit the family business?"
"Must be. I mean, she's V.G., the master artist. Grant Group just saved a fortune on publicity."
"More than just publicity costs—with V.G.'s connections in both political and business circles, deals will come to them."
"You're oversimplifying. Running a company isn't the same as hosting a dinner party. V.G. may be a brilliant artist, but that doesn't mean she can run a business."
"Fair point. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens to Grant Group."
---
Back at the Grant estate, Bill sat on the sofa with Nathan and Ruby.
Eric had left right after the banquet ended to head to a film shoot. Felix was nowhere to be seen.
Atlas had come along as well, sitting beside me with his usual cool expression and penetrating gaze.
Bill was still in high spirits even after returning home. He looked at me with a slightly cautious smile. "Vera, about joining Grant Group—I didn't discuss it with you beforehand. You're not upset with me, are you?"
I looked at Bill's somewhat tentative expression with genuine surprise. I hadn't expected the V.G. name to carry this much weight. Taking back what was rightfully mine from the Grant family required joining Grant Group as a first step.
I'd already had people gather intel on the company's general situation and had prepared myself accordingly. But I still needed to maintain appearances.
I smiled. "Grandfather, you're doing this for my benefit. How could I be upset? It's just a little sudden, that's all."
Bill's tone became consultative. "What position would you like? How about Director of Marketing? That role would help you quickly get a handle on Grant Group's operations."
Ruby's voice cut in sharply. "Grandfather, she doesn't know anything about running a business. Isn't it too reckless to put her in such an important position right away?"
Before I could respond, Bill's expression darkened. "Ruby, we're not done discussing your behavior yet. At the banquet today, you kept going after Vera at every turn. Don't think I didn't notice. We're family. When we're in public, we support each other—otherwise, it's not just personal embarrassment, it's embarrassing the entire Grant family! Apologize to your sister. Now."
Ruby's face flushed crimson with anger. Her fists clenched tight, her jaw set, but she forced her expression into something resembling sincerity. "Vera, I'm sorry. I won't do it again."
A cold smile played at the corner of my lips. Aloud, I said magnanimously, "Ruby just speaks her mind. I haven't taken it to heart. Just be more careful in the future."
Bill's expression softened slightly. He turned back to me with a much gentler look. "So, about the company?"
I paused to consider. "Grandfather, Ruby has a point. I've never managed a company before. If I take on Director of Marketing right away, people might not respect me, and honestly, I'm worried I'd struggle. I remember Grant Group owns a film production company that's currently without a general manager. I'd like to start there and get some experience first."
"The film company?"
Bill looked surprised. "But that company isn't doing well at all. It's actually the worst-performing subsidiary under Grant Group."
I smiled unconcernedly. "I've worked in the film industry before. I want to test whether I actually have business management skills."
Bill's face lit up with approval. "Good, good, good. Then you'll start at the film company. If you need people, money, or resources, come straight to me."
I smiled. "Thank you, Grandfather."
Atlas, sitting beside me, coughed deliberately at that moment.
I caught his signal and turned to Bill. "Grandfather, it's getting late. I should head back—I need to check in with Mrs. Blackwell."
After learning I was V.G., Rebecca had been thrilled. After the banquet, she'd pulled me aside insisting I come back to the Blackwell estate for a proper chat.
I'd asked her if I could come a bit later since I needed to discuss company matters with Bill.
Seeing Atlas and me both standing to leave, Bill looked genuinely reluctant. "Come back to visit me when you have time."
I nodded with a smile. "I will."
Atlas put his arm around me as we headed toward the door. Then I suddenly remembered something. I stopped, turned around, and looked at Ruby with a smile.
"Don't forget to transfer that oceanfront villa you lost in our bet into my name."
With that, I didn't linger any longer and left the Grant residence.
