Chapter 31 31
Chapter Thirty-one.
Tess_
“Bye.” I waved at Derek as he drove off from the entrance of the house after stopping. I turned and walked into the compound as my phone rang.
I pulled it out and answered the call as soon as I saw it was my mom calling. “Hi mom.” I said walking to the door.
“Hi baby, where are you? I am expecting you, are you still coming today?” She asked, I stamped my feet.
“I knew this girl can't keep her mouth shut.” I said with my teeth closed and a little lower.
“Huh? Hello?” She said.
I cleared my throat and responded. “I am coming, I am in front of the house.” I said and in no time she rushed to the window side and peeped through it. I waved at her as soon as I saw her.
She rushed to the door, opened it and spread her arms. “My baby.” She said.
I walked faster to meet her and I felt myself melting into her warm embrace, I had missed this so much and this made me emotional. “ I have missed you mom.” I said as I hugged her tight.
“I missed you too my baby girl, I missed you so much.” She responded.
“I don't miss you.” Jane said.
I laughed as I pulled away from my mom. “No one cares but I missed you and that's all that matters.” I said, pulling her in for a hug.
She refused and struggled to pull away from my tight grip around her arms. “Get away from me, I don't do hugs, leave me alone!!’’ she screamed but I didn't care about that, I kept hugging her..
After a while we all went inside, laughing and talking, as soon as I entered I dropped off my bag and inhaled the air of the house. “Gosh,I missed this… how long has it been?” I said feeling a little bit emotional.
“Eternity.” Jane said as she sat on the sofa and crossed her legs with her phone in her hand.
My mom came out of the kitchen to set up the table and she looked at me, spread her arms again and I walked to her and hugged her tighter. “I missed you so much!!” She said, fighting her tears back but her voice gave her away.
“I missed you too mama.” I said, after a minute she pulled away and looked at me.
“Are you sick? You look so pale, you
haven't been eating, have you?” She asked, as she ushered me to the chair, drew out one for and sat. “Here, eat.” She said as she fed me some rice pudding.
“Mom, I will eat myself, you don't need to stress yourself too much.” I said, stopping her from forcing the next spoon into my mouth.
“Okay, I'm just worried…you look sick, is the cold too much? Are you feeding well? How's Ana? Why didn't she come along?” She asked.
“Mom, you should stop worrying yourself okay, and Ana is fine, she has some work to attend to.” I said while munching on the food, I took the water to drink.
“Then why do you look so pale?” She kept asking.
“She is probably pregnant.” My silly sister responded and I didn't know when I spat the water out on my mom's face.
“Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry please mom. I didn't mean to splash water on you.” I stood immediately and picked the handkerchief to wipe her face.
“It's fine, I'm good…eat your food, I'll clean this up.” She said, stood up and headed to her room.
I looked at my sister and threw the handkerchief at her. “Fuck you.” I said.
She stood up and walked up to me. “Do you think I don't know you're pregnant?” She asked as she sat in front of me.
“What do you mean? I don't understand anything you're saying?” I said, lying through my teeth.
She pulled my hand and my eye lid down. “It's so evident that you're pregnant, I am a doctor for a reason…you don't have to lie to me.” She said,
I dropped the glass cup and looked at her. “Shu, you don't have to be audible about that, mom doesn't have to know.” I said beyond whisper, I had forgotten my sister finished from med school.
“Promise, she won't.” She replied.
“If she finds out, I will have your head served on a plate to the homeless kids.” I said, threatening her.
“You can always trust me, she won't find out” she said but immediately my mom came out of the room.
“Find out about what? Who is finding out about what?” She asked as she approached the dining area. “And why haven't you eaten your food?” She questioned.
I began to eat. “I am eating and this is what I didn't want to find out.” I lied then looked at Jane who smiled fakely at me.
“Hehehe, I have to get to work.” She said and stood up from chair, ready to head out.
“Are you going out of the town or just within the town?” I asked while eating.
“Why do you care? Why asking?” She replied.
“Rude… I just wanna know, probably go follow you down to work and check out the thing (I gave her sigh using my eyes) you mentioned earlier?” I asked and immediately she understood.
“Ohh, that is true but I would be very busy, I have a surgery to perform and it would take a lot of my time, a brain surgery, I can't afford to make mistakes, with you there, I would want to hasten up (she picked up her coat and bag) and I won't want that, so maybe when I get back tomorrow, we can talk better about everything…. I promise.” She said then hugged mom. “Bye mom, I will see you later and you, see you never.” She said and walked away from the room straight to the door.
“Fuck you bitch.” I said out loud, forgetting the presence of my mom.
“Hey, language.” She corrected as shease her way to the kitchen and Jane waved at me with the middle of her fingers.
I laughed it off. “Fucking hell bitch.” I said then focused on eating. “Mmmm…this tastes so good, I missed having something like this, gosh.” I muttered while having a mouthful of the food.
“Slowly, don't choke on it.” My mom said and a little glimpse of flashback happened.
Flashback
“Ahh, swallow my dick, choke on it…argh.” Damien moaned out loud as I gagged on his dick.
‘God that felt so good.’ I thought to myself while still sucking his dick continuously.
“Tess? Tessy?(She touched me and immediately the relapse ended.)” My mom called out.
I looked at her as my body jumped in fear a little bit. “Huh?” I replied.
“Are you fine? Is everything okay?” She asked.
I nodded as I tried to continue eating my food. “What, what is going on? Why do you ask?” I questioned.
“You mentioned something earlier today and it got me scared at first then worried about you, are you sure you're fine?” She said and asked again.
“Of course mom, I am okay…is it about Uncle joe?” I asked.
“Shuu, you don't say the name of the dead like that…you have to respect them like you respect God.” She cautioned.
“Firstly, you don't respect a dead man like you respect a living God, that's disrespectful, and secondly Uncle Joe is not dead!! I saw him today and he dropped me off at work.” I said, defensively.
She looked at me for a while then stood up and headed to her room. “Mom, are you mad at me? Mom? I called her out but she wasn't responding.
A few minutes later, she came with a cane with a brown envelope and dropped it on the table without saying a word.
“What is this mom? Is everything alright?” I asked as I dropped the spoon and picked up the envelope to go through it. There were pictures I smiled at and pointed at. “Look at you here.” I said with a smile on my face and continued looking at the picture as I got to a picture I seemed not to understand. “What is this? Who is this?” I questioned, looking away from the picture.
“That is your uncle Joe after his last mission in Hong Kong, his body was sent home a few months after you moved away.” She said, I could feel the sadness in her tone but I still can't believe what she was saying.
“Wait, hold on… are you trying to tell me uncle Joe is dead? And I saw a ghost this morning?” I questioned, trying not to be scared but I could feel my hormones ready to kick off.
My mom buried her face in her palm as she allowed herself to cry without holding back. “I am sorry but that wasn't Joe you saw.” She said, her voice sounding beyond whisper.
“No, no, no this can't be for real (pushed the chair back and stood up as my heart began to pound so loudly)….the man I saw today looked very well alive and very healthy as well, I honestly don't know what you are talking about… uncle Joe is alive and I know that” I said, defensively, trying to hide my fear.
“I'm sorry baby, I am sorry I didn't tell you.” She said with so much tears in her eyes.
“That is not true, uncle Joe is alive….he is definitely alive!!(Then I remembered the card number uncle Joe gave to me) hold on right there, I will prove it to you, he is alive.” I reached out to my bag and picked out the card, dialed the number on my phone even though my hands were shaking.
“The number you're trying to call doesn't exist, please try again later.” The caller said, I pulled the phone away from my ear and tried it again. “The number you're trying to reach doesn't exist, please check the number and try again.” It said again, I could believe my ears.
“I checked the number after I received it this morning, I fucking… tried it and he picked it up.” I said, breathing in and out fast and I couldn't control myself.
My mom looked away from her phone and looked at me, saw how heavily I was breathing, rushed to me and helped me to sit down. “Hey, hey hey…it's okay? Just breathe, relax, nothing is going to happen okay? Relax.” She said. “Come on, 123… breath in and breathe out,(I followed her as we did the breathing technique together) again.” She said and I did exactly what she Instructed me to do.
Later that day.
As the night wore on, I was finally stable and relaxed but still couldn't shake off the feelings I had ridden the car with a ghost. It seems too true to believe but since my mom said she received his body, then it must be the truth. “I am ready.” I said to her,
She smiled at me but it looked very sad. She greased my handvas and wiped her tears. “Go on, at the garage.” She said, releasing her grip off from my hand.
I mustered up courage as I breathed in and out before standing up from the chair and walking towards the door then closing the door behind me as I walked out of the house, I was reluctant to take another step after I took a step but I had no choice but to do that. ‘Please be a prank, please be a prank.’ I prayed within myself as I watched walked down to the garage, I stopped a little and peeped. I could see a stone like a cross brick and a stone being made. I made my way down there to check out what I just saw.
I stood in front of the grave and stared at the name of my favorite uncle being graffiti on the surface of the stone, my heart skipped a beat and I could feel my food regurgitating but I swallowed hard and sat in front of the grave, I couldn't believe my eyes and somehow I felt my eyes were deceiving me.
“This can't be true, did you show yourself to me so I could believe you still wanted to live?” I questioned as tears escaped my eyes freely and I did nothing to hold it back because at that moment my heart was aching so bad and there was nothing I could do to stop that.
