Chapter 27 27
Chapter Twenty-Seven.
Tess_
I looked at Damien acting all goofy around this woman, I could feel my blood boil inside my skin.
‘What did I ever do wrong? What is going on? Last time we were lovers, he told me loved me and wants the world to know about us, so what went wrong? What could I have possibly done to deserve all these?’ I thought within myself as I stared at them.
“What are you waiting for? Get out.” She commanded.
I looked at him, hoping he would scold her for shouting at me but nothing came out of his mouth, I scoffed. “Okay.” I said and walked out of the room.
I felt really suffocated, I sat in front of my desk, breathed in and out till my breathing my normal, the last time I ever felt like this was when I caught Luke in bed with another woman, my heart sank and now it feels like it is shattering slowly and I can't do anything to fix that.
I picked up my phone and texted Ana. “Hey baby, what are you doing?” I typed and sent the text. I waited for a few minutes and my phone chimed with notifications.
“I'm good my love, how are you?” The text said.
“I am okay, how's work going? Is everything fine?” I said, trying to cover up my feelings.
“What's wrong? Did something happen?” She asked, she knew something was wrong, she could sense that even through our text.
“Nothing baby, I just wanted to text you and see if you're doing well, that's all.”
“Uhmmm, this is do sus but I am fine.”
“Okay baby, I miss you.” I sent the text with puppy eyes emoji.
“Okay, now this is very suspicious, what do you really want?”
I read the chat and I couldn't stop smiling, I was about to reply when Leah called me.
“Tess.” She said.
I looked up from my phone. “Mhm.” I said.
“We have a meeting with the CEO.” She said,
Instantly my mood changed. “Right now?” I asked.
“Yes, at the lobby.” She said as she walked away to the door, opened it and walked out of the office.
I dropped my phone on the table with a little bit of annoyance. ‘Please let this be good.’ I said within myself, took my pen and my tablet and walked out of the office.
I counted my steps until I got to the lobby, I let out a sigh and pushed the door open, he wasn't there yet. ‘Wish he would never show up.’ I said within myself just then he walked in.
“Good afternoon everyone, let's be seated.” He said before drawing out a chair to sit down.
I sat at the end of the long table, my gaze fixed on the stack of papers in front of me as Damien began the meeting with the workers and myself. His voice echoed through the room, outlining new strategies and initiatives for the upcoming quarter.
Despite the importance of the discussion, my focus remained on maintaining a facade of strict professionalism.
Throughout the meeting, I made a point not to engage in the usual banter or subtle nods of agreement that typically characterized our interactions.
His eyes occasionally flickered in my direction, a silent acknowledgment of my unyielding demeanor. I was determined to show that I was not swayed by his charm or authority, that my dedication to the company's success was unshaken.
“Does anyone have any idea on what to add to the new project we are about to have?” He questioned but no one said anything or brought up a suggestion.
He looked around, hoping to find one but no one was ready to speak. “Anyone? No? Should I call someone?” He asked but no one still said anything.
“I have something to say sir.” John raised his hand.
“Okay, let's hear you.” He replied and just then John began to give out his opinion and suggestions, I looked at him briefly then back to my pad, I wasn't paying attention, all I could think of is the child I am carrying, I want my child to have a father but right now I don't think the father would be excited to know about the existence of his child, I looked at him and when I saw his eyes turned to look at me, I removed my gaze from him quickly and stared at John, racking my brain on what to do.
“That would make it more visible and affordable.” John ended his suggestion and everyone in the room began to clap for him except me because I was lost in thought.
“Huh?” I said as soon as Leah tapped on my arm, calling my attention because I didn't hear what Damien asked, I had no idea he was talking to me.
“Did you hear what I said?” He asked again and I shook my head negatively. “Get me a full report on today's meeting.”he said.
“But sir, I am not the secreta..ry and that is not my job.” I said, looking directly into his eyes.
“You're my PA and that is what I want.” He said.
I smiled forcefully. “Alright sir.” Without much argument I agreed.
“Alright, does anyone else have something to say?” He questioned and just then the team began to give suggestions and ideas on how to work on the new project. I sat there thinking of what I could have possibly done to deserve all these Damien is doing to me.
‘Did I do anything the night we had sex? Was I infected? Did I look out of shape already?’ I questioned myself as I sat in silence and stared into the abyss, hoping to find the answers in the stack of paper files in front of me.
“I just wanna be happy.” I muttered underneath my breath but people around still heard me and the hall went silent as they looked at me. “Uhmm, hmm.. I'm sorry, please continue.” I say, after clearing my throat.
As the meeting drew to a close, He concluded with a confident tone, thanking everyone for their input. Without missing a beat, I swiftly gathered my notes, standing up with purpose.
“Without any further ado, that would be all for today.” He said, standing up and ready to exit the room.
I was the first to leave the room, my heels clicking against the polished floor, a silent declaration of my commitment to efficiency and professionalism.
Exiting the meeting room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at maintaining my composure throughout the interaction.
His surprised expression as I walked past him only fueled my resolve to uphold the standards I had set for myself in the corporate world. It was a small victory, but one that reinforced my position as a formidable force within the company, a force to be reckoned with.
I can definitely create a detailed chapter following Tess's perspective in this intricate scenario. Let's immerse ourselves in Tess's emotional journey as she navigates through unexpected revelations and new developments in her professional and personal life.
I walked back to my desk, sat down and opened my laptop, the morning sunlight filtered through the office windows, casting a warm glow on my desk as I stared at the blank screen of the laptop, my mind consumed with conflicting thoughts.
I had rehearsed the words countless times in my head, preparing to tell Damien about the life growing inside me, but the recent appearance of a mysterious woman had thrown a wrench into my plans.
As I mulled over how to approach Damien amidst this newfound complication.
Leah, my closest confidante at work, approached me with a solemn expression. "Tess, I need to tell you something," she whispered, her voice tinged.
“What's that? Is everything alright?” I questioned.
“Remember the lady you asked me who she was back then?” She said.
I looked at her with an etch of curiosity. “Yes, who is she?” I asked.
“Well, what I want to say is legit and I heard it from a reliable source.” She said.
“Just tell me already.” I was curious and my heart kept beating fast and uncontrollably.
“Heards she is the boss fiance and they got engaged some months back and–” she was about to say when Lucy walked up to our table.
“You don't have to say everything you hear Leah, face your work and stop trying to ruin things.” She said but Leah just rolled her eyes.
“Talk to you later.” She said to me and pulled her seat back to her desk properly.
“Are you fine? Why are you so concerned about Helen?” Lucy asked.
I looked at her. “Is that her name? Helen?” I asked and she nodded.
“Yes, she is Helen and is there any problem?” She asked, sounding so concerned.
A fake smile creeped on my lips. “No, not at all…everything is fine.” I lied, fighting my tears back as my heart kept beating fast.
“Alright, get back to work, you won't wanna get her mad.” She said.
“What….. what do you mean?” I questioned.
“You will know when the time is right.” She replied and walked away to her desk.
I watched Lucy walk away and began to wonder what is the meaning of what she just said but I wasn't able to figure it out.
With a heavy heart, Leah revealed the identity of the mystery lady who had captured Damien's attention, she was his fiancee and I couldn't believe I had fell for his lies all along.
The revelation hit me like a ton of bricks, shattering the fragile hope I had nursed in my heart. Damien, the man I had been crazy about, the one I was in love with and the father of my unborn child, was committed to another, leaving me adrift in a sea of heartache and unspoken words.
‘what have I done? I didn't just fuck my boss, I had something to do with an engaged man? A fucking engaged man, I was so stupid to have allow him fool me into this.’ I said within myself, I could feel my world crumbling down and making it hard to breath
The weight of the news settled upon me, crushing any remnants of courage I had mustered to share my pregnancy news.
Struggling to maintain my composure, I resolved to keep my impending pregnancy news a secret from him, burying the truth deep within me to shield both myself and my unborn child from the complexities of the situation.
With a heavy and broken heart and a newfound sense of isolation and loneliness, I retreated into a shell of silence, grappling with the emotional turmoil that threatened to engulf me.
As I wrestled with my inner sadness, I was about to leave the office when a sudden commotion in the office drew my attention. A new face had joined our team, his presence a beacon of change in the midst of my personal upheaval.
His easy smile and confident aura injected a sense of vitality into the somber atmosphere, sparking a little bit of curiosity within me.
Despite my resolve to distance myself from emotional entanglements, the arrival of this new colleague stirred something within me… a flicker of interest that I had long thought extinguished.
As I observed him effortlessly integrate into our team, I couldn't help but wonder if his presence signified a fresh start or merely another layer of complexity in the intricate web of my emotions.
“Good morning everyone, can I have your attention please.” One of the head teams said, I can't remember his name.
We all looked in his direction and my right hand side was a tall, light skinned man with fluffy and shiny dark hair and a build up and a muscle, his shirt fitted perfectly on his body and his brown eyes shone brightly.
“This is Derek Amber, he will be joining us starting from today, please be nice to him and don't bother him too much.” She said, “Derek say hi.”
“Good morning everyone, my name is Derek and Look forward to working with you.” He spoke in a deep voice, sending a shiver down my spine as my memory relapsed the night of my sex with Damien, I held my shirt tightly as my chest fluttered, I stood up and left the office immediately.
