8 - A Bloody Challenge

While we were kissing, Trevor’s hands started to roam around my body. I couldn’t push him away, knowing how strong he is than me. I could feel the sensation between our heavy breaths, making me moan and ask for more.

“Damn, you’re so irresistible!”

Trevor whispered into my ears.

Then he carried me toward the bed without looking at somewhere else. Through his eyes, I could feel the temptation inviting me to submit myself. I tried to control my mind, heart, and soul but I always ended up in his arms.

“I know this is not supposed to happen, but I can’t stop myself either. I want to touch every part of you!” He spoke while staring into my eyes.

“Trevor,” I mumbled.

I didn’t want to conclude that I fall in love with him again. It would be impossible for me to love a stranger who impregnated me after a one-night stand. I knew it would take a lot of time, and I let my heart decide one at a time.

This time around, he was taking off my clothes. We were both gasping for air, excited enough to reach the climax.

He said, “I want to wait until our wedding, but damn! I could no longer wait that much!”

Hearing his deep, husky voice made me laugh. I didn’t know why but I found it cute and genuine. It was the very first I felt this way and I hoped it would last forever.

I lifted my head and realized he was staring at me with a smile on his lips. It felt so good that he stopped taking off my clothes and rolled over next to me.

“Why did you stop?” I asked.

“I realized that I have to win your heart first and when you laughed earlier, it made my vision clear. To love you and protect the twins no matter what it takes.”

For the longest time, I felt safe next to a man. I’ve never imagined this moment would come true that took away the fear within my chest.

I'm excited to submit myself to him. It didn’t matter if we were married or not, but he decided to respect me. It was the sweetest thing I’ve ever received in my whole life. Despite having the twins, Trevor never measured my worth through our mistakes.

Knowing him convinced me that he was a good man. I didn’t regret giving him another chance to prove himself that he was capable of being a father and a mate.

“Thank you for coming back to my life, Trevor. I was afraid to live in darkness with the twins because of fear. I didn’t trust anyone around me, thinking they were my father’s subordinates.”

I will never forget how they abandoned me before. Introducing Trevor to them was part of our plans to earn my father’s trust. Once it happened, the twins would be safe until they grew up healthy and strong.

Trevor gasped. He then cupped my face and stared at me.

“I could sense something about your father. He’s dangerous if he becomes one of our enemies.” He spoke.

“You’re right. I’ve known him for the longest time and father would never hesitate to get rid of our family! He’s more powerful than you think.”

For a second, he remained silent. He was thinking of a better plan to make sure everything would be under control. Trevor didn’t want to start a fight against my father as it would only put the twins and my life at stake.

If we had to kneel in front of him, we would do it no matter what.

“Your father mentioned someone’s name earlier. If I’m not mistaken it was Valor, Valor Brooklyn.”

I nodded.

“You’re right! Valor’s supposed to be my mate, but because of what happened a year ago I never agreed to marry him. I never liked him.”

His facial expression changed. Valor caught his attention and wanted to meet him sooner or later. But if he would ask me, I don’t want to see him all over again. Valor is a cunning alpha and he’s willing to do anything to get what he wants.

To assure him that everything was under control, I held his hands. Then he smiled and kissed my forehead.

We were about to fall asleep when someone knocked on the door. It was loud enough to awaken our souls, hoping nothing bad happened.

As quick as I could, I walked toward the door and saw father’s servant. She was holding her breath, telling me something was about to happen.

She said, “I apologize my lady, but Lord Thomas summoned the man with you earlier.”

My heart stopped beating. I knew what it was all about, and I hated father for it.

“Where?” I asked.

“At the open field. Lord Thomas is waiting for him.”

At that moment, I had no choice but to go with Trevor to the open field. It was a custom where a man must surpass every challenge before marrying an alpha’s daughter. It was life and death; once you failed, everything is over.

“Go back and relay a message to my father that Trevor is willing to be there.”

“Yes, my lady.” She replied and obeyed her words.

Trevor seemed confused. He had no idea that his life was at stake the moment he stepped into my hometown.

“What’s going on? Why must we go an open field?” He asked.

With a heavy breath, I looked at his eyes. I knew Trevor would surpass everything without getting hurt.

“I never told you about our custom. A custom where a man should prove his love to the alpha’s daughter through challenges. A bloody challenge, to be exact.”

Trevor didn’t blink his eyes. He didn’t show any weakness that might ruin our plans. The only thing he must do is to outdo my father in front of the crowd.

“Trust me, Therese. If this is the only way to prove and earn your father’s trust, then I am willing to sacrifice my life for our family. I would no longer disappoint you, never again.”

I saw eagerness in his eyes. I knew Trevor was strong and smart enough to outdo my father, but there was a part of me thinking the opposite. I don’t want to lose Trevor anymore.

Before we left, I wrapped my arms around his body and gave him the sweetest motivation.

“Please don’t die, Trevor. I know you can daze such bloody challenge and prove to my father that you deserve to be my mate forever.”

I whispered into the cold, thin air despite the fear within my chest.
