Chapter 81
Chapter 81
Mason looked at Algernon with nothing but frustration and disappointment.
He leaned on his cane and tapped it hard on the ground. "I have no other wish than to see my granddaughter-in-law before I die. Otherwise, I won't be able to rest in peace!"
"Grandpa, you've said that 'I won't be able to rest in peace' no less than ten times." Algernon reminded him kindly.
This time, Mason really felt like he was going to be angered to death.
"The day after tomorrow is Sunday. I'm going to the hospital. Remember to come with me!" Mason glared at Algernon.
Algernon nodded. "I know."
The news that Priscilla was joining the film crew was told to Chase first.
At that time, Chase was visiting Verity with a cake.
The kindergarten was on vacation recently, so Verity had a lot of time to play with Chase.
Seeing the blueberry cake in Chase's hand, Priscilla reminded him helplessly, "Grandpa, Verity will get cavities if she eats too much of this."
Chase glanced at Verity, who was sitting on the floor mat, looking at him eagerly. He waved his hand. "It's okay. Verity promised me she'll brush her teeth after eating."
As soon as his voice fell, Priscilla saw Verity nod repeatedly.
Their steps were surprisingly consistent.
"It's a deal."
As soon as Priscilla finished speaking, Chase stretched out his hand and gave Verity a high-five.
When Kieran returned from the hospital, he saw the old and the young sitting on the floor mat, eating and playing.
He couldn't help but frown. "Grandpa, you'll catch a cold like this."
Neither of them was in good health. How could they not take care of their bodies?
Chase cleared his throat and looked at Priscilla with a pleading look. Seeing that she had no reaction, he looked at Kieran with a pleading gaze. "Just this once."
He had said this countless times, and Kieran was a little used to it.
He put down his bag and went to the kitchen.
He skillfully took out a pot, then went to the storage room to find some medicinal herbs. Kieran soon stewed a pot of nourishing sweet soup.
Priscilla smelled the scent and came downstairs with a cup. "Kieran, you can leave some more for me next time you make sweet soup."
It had to be said that Kieran was particularly talented in medicine. The desserts he made were both nourishing and delicious.
Even Verity, who didn't like to drink medicine, always scrambled to drink more.
"By the way, I might have to stay here for a few more days. Is that okay?" Chase asked at the dinner table.
Of course, Priscilla didn't mind. "The room is always available. I'm going to be on set for the next few days, so you can stay with Verity, Grandpa."
"But, is there no objection from the family?" Priscilla was still a little worried.
Could it be that Jasper had bullied Chase?
Seeing that Priscilla agreed, Chase breathed a sigh of relief. "What objection could your father have? He just came over a few days ago and said a bunch of nonsense to me. I was annoyed and didn't want to see him!"
At the thought of his son, Chase was filled with anger.
Priscilla comforted him. "Grandpa, you don't have to be angry about people and things that aren't worth it. It's not worth it to get angry and hurt yourself."
"You're right. Speaking of which, I miss Darren a little. The tea he prepared for me is finished. If you have nothing to do tomorrow, can you accompany me to see him?" Chase asked carefully.
Priscilla just thought that Chase was getting old and wanted company. She agreed without thinking.
At night, Chase returned to his room and secretly made a phone call.
"It's settled. We'll meet at the hospital tomorrow!"
On the other end of the phone, Mason's voice was teasing. "You've been staying at Priscilla's place for the past few days. Do your family members have no objection?"
"Don't talk to me about those people in my family. That bastard wants to give half of the family's property to Quinlan. Do you think he's getting senile?" Chase was annoyed at the mention of Jasper.
Mason objected. "That's not it. You're not senile yet, but your son is already senile?"
"But then again, giving away half of the property is a bit too much." Mason pondered.
For families like theirs who really had property to inherit, what they valued most was family affection and bloodline.
Although Quinlan was a child who had been raised since she was a child and had feelings for her, Priscilla was the biological child.
"That's why I said he's senile!" Chase said indignantly.
This time, Mason didn't say anything more.
Every family had its own problems, but it seemed that Chase's family's problems were more difficult.
"If it really doesn't work, after I die, I'll donate all my property!" Chase gritted his teeth.
At least he would get a good reputation.
Mason listened to his old friend's complaints on the phone with some helplessness.
"You still have feelings for both children, so you're in so much pain. Not to mention anything else, Quinlan is also a child I watched grow up. Although there is no blood relationship, if she has the ability in the future, she should also be given a little of the family property." Mason said thoughtfully.
Mason's proposal was quickly adopted by Chase.
At the thought of seeing Priscilla tomorrow, Mason couldn't help but get excited.
"The more I think about it, the more I feel that Verity is my great-granddaughter! Look at her little nose and little eyes, they're exactly the same as Algernon's when he was a child!" Mason's tone changed, and he became happier as he spoke.
This time it was Chase's turn to be unhappy.
"If Verity is really Algernon's daughter, you'll see if I don't break his legs!" Chase gritted his teeth. "Look at how much he's made my granddaughter suffer!"
At the thought of Priscilla giving birth to a child alone abroad and having no one to take care of her during postpartum care, Chase's heart ached so much that he wanted to cry!
Knowing that he was in the wrong, Mason pouted. "Alright, you should rest early. We'll talk about anything else tomorrow!"
When the matter of his granddaughter-in-law was settled, he could also be at ease.
In the hospital, Priscilla glanced at Chase beside her, then at Kieran, who had changed into a white coat.
"Darren said he'll be over after he finishes his rounds. You guys rest for a while." Kieran skillfully took out a disposable cup from the cabinet and made a cup of tea.
"Thank you." Priscilla took the teacup, held it with both hands, and let out a long breath.
She glanced at Chase beside her. For some reason, she felt that Chase was a little absent-minded.
"Are you not feeling well anywhere?" Priscilla asked with some concern.
Chase shook his head. "It's nothing. I was just thinking that since I'm here, I might as well have a small check-up, but I'm a little worried because I don't have an appointment."
Priscilla didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "This is not a big deal."
This hospital existed for high-end clients, so there were not many people who came.
"I'll go see if Darren has time." Priscilla thought for a moment and got up to leave.
She didn't notice that as soon as she left, Chase immediately took out his phone and sent a message to someone.
On the other side, Mason felt the vibration of his phone and immediately avoided Algernon and took out his phone.
