I was completely taken aback by his words. I had never imagined that Arthur could feel such complex emotions, let alone have feelings for me. I felt a rush of emotions, from shock to confusion to something else that I couldn't quite identify. I just sat there, staring at him, my mouth hanging open. Finally, I managed to speak.
"I... I don't know what to say," I stammered.
"I'm just so surprised." He nodded, his expression sympathetic.
"I understand," he said. "I know this is a lot to take in.”
I sat there, still trying to process what he had said. I had so many questions, but I didn't know where to start. I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down, and I wasn't sure how to make sense of it all.
"How is this possible?" I finally managed to ask.
“You love me?" He took a deep breath as if gathering his thoughts.
“I do," he said slowly. "
"My feelings for you are real," he said. "I genuinely care for you, and I want you to know that. I understand if that's hard to believe, but it's the truth."
I felt my breath catch in my throat again, but this time it was for a different reason. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but I also couldn't deny the sincerity in his voice.
"I... I don't know what to say," I said, my voice barely audible. He reached out and took my hand, his touch gentle and reassuring.
"You don't have to say anything," he said softly.
"I just wanted you to know how I feel. I know it's unexpected, and I don't want to pressure you in any way. I just want you to know that I care about you deeply, and I would never do anything to hurt you."
I looked into his eyes, and I saw nothing but honesty and affection. I didn't know what to make of all this, but I couldn't deny that his words moved me.
"I... I appreciate your honesty," I said, my voice still a bit shaky.
"I just... I need some time to process all this." He nodded, his expression understanding.
"Of course," he said.
"I know this is a lot to take in, and I don't want to overwhelm you. Just know that I'm here for you, whenever you're ready to talk." I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. I had never expected to hear such words from Arthur.
We just met a few weeks ago and now this?, but I couldn't deny I love his presence around me, but I wanted to be sure of my feelings. Auden was an eye-opener and I would not want to make the same mistake, twice.
Like they say, “Once bitten, twice shy... “ I took a deep breath, looking at him deeply,
"Thank you," I said, my voice full of emotion. "This means a lot to me.”
He gave my hand a gentle squeeze.
"I'm glad to hear that," he said.
"And I want you to know that, no matter what you decide, our friendship is important to me. I'll always be here for you, whether we're just friends or something more." I felt my heart skip a beat at his words.
His words touched me in a way I hadn't expected. I wasn't sure what the future held, but I knew that I would always value what we had.
looking at him, and I knew that no matter what happened, I would always be grateful for his friendship.
"I appreciate you being so understanding," I said, my voice still a bit unsteady.
"I know this is a lot to take in, and I'm not sure what to make of it all. But I do know that I care about you, and I value our friendship." A small smile played on his lips.
"I'm glad we're on the same page," he said.
"I know this is a lot to process, but I'm here to support you in any way I can."
We sat there, and a comfortable silence settled over us. I looked up, watching the moonlight play across the landscape. I felt a sense of peace wash over me, and I knew that whatever happened, I would be okay.
My mind was still a jumble of thoughts and emotions, but I knew that I had time to sort through them. For now, I was content to just enjoy the moment and to appreciate the friendship that I had found.
As the minutes passed, I felt a sense of reluctance to break the moment. But I knew that it was time to end our conversation, and to face the reality of the situation.
“We should probably get going. My Nanny could realize I'm not home," I said, my voice quiet. He nodded, his expression understanding.
"Of course," he said. "You've had a lot to process tonight. “
I smiled, as we both got up,
He walked me to the car, opening the door for me as I got in. I felt a wave of gratitude for his kindness, and I knew that it would stay with me for a long time. As we drove home, I looked out the window, taking in the sights.
The night air was cool and crisp, and the stars twinkled overhead. The moon shone brightly, casting a silvery light over the landscape. The streets were quiet, and the world seemed to be at peace. I felt a sense of calm wash over me as if the night had enveloped me in a comforting embrace.
The soft hum of the car's engine was a soothing backdrop to the night, and I felt myself relax.
I felt at peace, despite the turmoil of my thoughts.
As we pulled up to my house, I felt a sense of homecoming. The familiar sight of my front door filled me with a sense of comfort and security. I unbuckled my seatbelt, and opened the car door, stepping out into the night. My feet crunched on the gravel as I walked up the front path.
Almost close to the door, when I heard a soft call from behind me. I turned to see Arthur standing on the porch, his hand reaching out towards me. I looked into his eyes, and I saw a mixture of emotions there.
It was concern, compassion, and something else that I couldn't quite name. Without thinking, I stepped towards him, and he gently placed his hand on my cheek. He leaned down and brushed his lips against my forehead, in a soft, gentle kiss.
*I'll come pick you up for Auden's gala tomorrow night. Love you”. He says kissing my forehead again, my stomach twisted into two, sending shivers down my spine.
I watched him drive off, reminiscing what just happened my heart leaped with joy,
“What are you doing to me, Arthur Reynolds?
