Chapter 9 In a nasty way
Uriel's POV
"Word has it that Ryder was almost jailed yesterday." Chloe announced, placing her food on the table.
My ears perked up at this information, my eyes scanning the canteen.
"He's not in school or maybe he is but he's somewhere. I heard he has a special hiding spot." Chloe shrugged.
"You know too much about a boy you're not interested in." Lance shot, eyeing Chloe.
"What? Everybody is always talking about him." She shrugged, munching on her fries.
Almost jailed? Yesterday?
Oh shit.
It was that playhouse trespass thingy.
Oh my goodness.
"Earth to Uri." Chloe snapped her finger in my face.
I jerked back, looking between she and Lance. They both had their eyes on me.
"Sorry. I spaced out. I'm trying to memorize what I read today." I made an excuse.
They didn't need to know I was thinking about Ryder.
I didn't want them to think I was letting him affect me. I wasn't though.
"Yeah, what happened to your phone. You were saying something about it this morning." Chloe asked, concern etched in my voice.
Sighing, my eyes landed on Emma's table. She was donned in a new dress and even got new pair of jewelries and cool stuffs.
She looked happy. She had everything she wanted.
The attention. The accessories.
Yet, she wasn't satisfied.
Maybe until she destroyed my life entirely.
"My mother seized my phone because Emma told her about that Ryder and I's rumor." I frowned, looking down at my food. I hadn't even touched it much.
"God, I hate that girl so much." Lance turned to look at her and then at me.
"I have a spare device that I'm not using." Chloe placed her hand on mine.
"Oh no! It's fine. Dad assured me that he'd get it back for me within the week. I believe him." I smiled at Chloe.
She was always the 'solution' person in our group.
Always willing to help.
"You sure?" Chloe pouted.
Chuckling, I nodded.
"Uhhh...why are Mason and Peter approaching our table?" Lance asked, glaring daggers at the guys.
My head shot up immediately, scanning around for one person but he wasn't there.
Chloe had began to hyperventilate, using her hand to fan herself.
My lips broke out into a smile. "Just calm down. Act normal."
The minute Peter sat close to her, she froze. Like, literally froze. She stopped breathing, blinking or moving.
This girl.
"Hey." Mason waved at us, his eyes focused on me. "Have you seen Ryder?"
I turned back to check if he was talking to someone else. He wasn't
"Me?"
Mason raised his eyebrow at me and then looked at Peter. "Are you not Uriel?"
"She is. Why would she know about Ryder's whereabout? Isn't he like your best friend?" Lance spoke up for me.
I placed my hand on his leg, silently telling him to take it easy.
His blood was hot.
"It was just a question, man. Chill." Mason rolled his eyes. "Let's go, Peter."
Peter held Chloe's shoulder, raising his eyebrows at her and then looked at Lance and I. "She good?"
"She's... She's under punishment. It's a game we play." I lied, forcing a smile.
"Ohhh." He nodded slowly. "Cool." He patted her back before leaving.
She released her breath, silently mouthing. "He just noticed me!"
I was about to laugh when someone yelled "Fightttt!!"
Kathie showed up at our table, filling us in on who the parties were. "Hurry up! It's Ryder and Finch."
I was the first to jump up.
Was this boy stupid? Was he begging to be suspended or thrown in prison?
I hadn't even realized I had left my friends until I was standing in front of the crowd, looking.
Mason and Peter jumped in, trying to pull him away.
"What? You can lie to all of us but we all know you tapped that shit." Finch smirked.
"Repeat it." Ryder launched forward, almost breaking out of Mason's arm.
"You think I'm scared of you? I'd repeat the very first thing I said." Finch narrowed his eyes at Ryder. "She a 10 and we were all waiting in line to ..."
The last line was low, so we all didn't hear it apart from Mason, Peter and Ryder.
And it seemed to be bad because Ryder finally broke away from Mason's arm, launching forward to grab Finch's shirt.
No.
No.
Finch's eyes met mine, his mouth moving to say something. Ryder's fist raised up to the air, about to deliver a vicious punch.
Stop!!!!
The whole hall went quiet, everybody's eyes falling to me. Including Ryder.
Oh my goodness.
I said that loud.
Please swallow me, ground.
Ignoring the stares, I walked up to Ryder, pulling him by his shirt.
"It's time for tutoring. You kept me waiting for hours. I don't want to lose my point." I said audibly, frowning at everyone as I walked past them.
Ryder allowed me pull him until we got to an empty class. He shoved my hands away, slamming his fist on the desk abruptly.
My heart jumped, fear gripping me.
"You're welcome, I guess." I sat down, staring at him. His chest heaved up and down.
"Why did you step in." He glared at me.
"Because you were begging to be suspended again? Are you not tired of being behind everyone?" I frowned at him.
"I don't need you to help me!" He screamed at me, taking me aback.
He gripped his hair in his hand, kicking a seat to the ground. After a while, he sat down.
"What did he say to you?" My voice was calm as I asked.
His nose flared up, showing he was still clearly pissed.
"It's private."
"Then y'all should've taken it to the boys locker room." I shot back at him, eyeing him.
He scoffed, looking away. "So ungrateful."
"What was that?"
"I saved your ass yesterday and this is how you talk to me?" His tone wasn't serious.
My heart softened as I stared softly at him. "It was because of that incident you got arrested, right?"
He chuckled darkly, looking at the whiteboard. "You really are interested in me, Kinky?"
Slowly, he turned to me. His eyes were dark.
"I am not interested in you. I... I just feel bad that you took the fall for both of us." I told him.
In a swift movement, he was towering over me, looking down at me.
"How can you say you're not interested in me?" He placed his hand on my thigh. I held my breath, not wanting to react to his touch. "Hmm?"
"Because there's nothing interesting about you, Ryder." I said it to his face, looking into his eyes. "Just another egoistical rich boy. Seen a lot to know them."
He smirked, holding my chin. His nose brushed against mine, his lips so close to mine. My eyes flickered between his eyes and lips.
Move back, Uriel.
Run.
"Then why does your pupils dilate whenever you're this close to me." He whispered, brushing his thumb on my lower lips, parting it.
They do not!
I wanted to tell him but my throat was dry. My heart was thrashing hard in my chest.
His minty breath fanned my face as he spoke again, sending shivers down my spine. "Do you want me in a nasty way, Kinky?"
