Chapter 204 Epilogue

Chapter 204 Epilogue
Epilogue
One Year Later...

The cherry blossom tree stood proudly at the highest point of the hill, its pink petals dancing gently in the afternoon breeze.
Beneath its shade sat Asher. A year had passed. Three hundred and sixty-five days since Alyna had taken her last breath in his arms. Three hundred and sixty-five days since his world had changed forever. Yet some wounds never truly healed.
His gaze followed a small figure running across the grassy field below.
Leo. His son. Their son. The little boy's laughter carried through the wind as he chased butterflies between the wildflowers.
Recently, Leo had turned five. He had inherited Alyna's bright smile, her curious nature, and the warmth that drew people toward him effortlessly.
Sometimes, when Leo laughed, Asher felt as though he were hearing Alyna again. And every time it happened, his heart ached.
But it also reminded him why he kept moving forward. After Alyna's death, there had been days when getting out of bed felt impossible. Nights where grief wrapped around him so tightly he could barely breathe. He had cried until no tears remained. He had blamed himself.
Questioned every decision. Replayed that terrible day countless times.
If only he had arrived sooner. If only he had protected her better. If only he had never allowed her to become involved.
But none of those thoughts changed the outcome. Alyna was gone. And no amount of regret could bring her back. The only thing that kept him standing was Leo.
Every morning, his son would wake up and look for him. Every evening, he would run into his arms. Leo needed a father.
The pack needed an Alpha. And so Asher had forced himself to live.
Not because he wanted to. Because he had to.
Over time, the unbearable pain became something quieter.
It never disappeared. It simply became a part of him. A scar he carried every day.
After Sarmon's death, peace had finally arrived.
The rogue army had collapsed without its leader. The surviving rogues scattered across distant lands.
No new threats emerged. No wars followed.
For the first time in generations, the region knew peace.
Even the relationship between the packs had changed.
The rivalry that had existed for centuries ended with Sarmon's fall. Territories expanded. Trade flourished. Children grew up without fear.
Everything Alyna had wanted had finally become reality.
Ironically, she was not there to see it. Asher looked up at the cherry blossom branches above him.
Alyna rested beneath that tree.
It had been planted shortly after her death.
Now it had grown tall and beautiful. Just like the woman whose memory it honored. He often came here when the world became too heavy.
Sometimes he spoke to her. Sometimes he sat in silence. Either way, it brought him comfort.
Because no matter how much time passed, this place still felt connected to her.
Asher closed his eyes. The wind brushed gently across his face.
For a moment, he imagined Alyna sitting beside him.
Smiling. Watching Leo run through the field. The same way she always had. A soft smile touched his lips.
One of the rare genuine smiles he still allowed himself. Then suddenly a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Uncle Xander!"
Leo's excited shout echoed across the hill.
Asher opened his eyes.
Down the path, a familiar figure approached.
Xander. The former rival who had become one of his closest friends.
Leo ran straight toward him. Xander laughed and lifted the boy effortlessly into his arms.
"You're getting heavier every time I see you."
"I'm strong!" Leo proudly declared.
"That you are."
Watching them together brought warmth to Asher's heart. Life had a strange way of changing people.
Once upon a time, he and Xander had been prepared to destroy each other.
Now they stood side by side.
United by grief. United by the woman they had both loved.
Xander walked toward the tree carrying Leo.
When he reached Asher, the two men exchanged a quiet smile.
No words were needed.
Some friendships were forged through hardship.
And theirs had survived the greatest hardship of all.
Xander glanced at the cherry blossom tree.
"I thought I'd find you here."
"You always do."
Xander chuckled softly.
"Old habits."
For a moment, all three stood quietly beneath the tree.
The wind continued to scatter petals around them.
The afternoon sunlight painted everything in gold.
Peace.
Real peace.
Something none of them had known before Alyna entered their lives.
Xander had once told Asher that Alyna came into their lives for a reason.
At first, Asher had struggled to accept it.
But now he understood.
She had changed everything.
She had ended centuries of hatred.
She had saved both packs.
She had brought Leo into the world.
And somehow, even after her death, she continued bringing people together.
Leo stepped forward and placed his small hand against the trunk of the tree.
His expression became serious.
The way children sometimes surprised adults.
"I miss you, Mother."
The simple words shattered whatever composure Asher had left.
His eyes immediately filled with tears.
Even after a year, hearing Leo speak about Alyna never became easier.
Xander looked at the boy for a long moment before kneeling beside him.
"Your mother is right here."
Leo looked up.
Xander smiled gently.
"I can feel her everywhere."
He glanced toward Asher.
"In our smiles."
Then at Leo.
"In our freedom."
Finally, he looked at the endless peaceful lands stretching beyond the hill.
"In our peace."
The wind moved through the cherry blossoms.
Petals floated around them like tiny fragments of a dream.
"She's right here."
Asher lowered his head briefly.
A tear escaped despite his efforts.
Xander placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
The gesture spoke louder than words.
Asher nodded slowly.
"Yes."
His voice was rough with emotion.
"She's here."
He looked toward the sky.
Bright blue. Endless.
The same sky Alyna once looked at.
The same sky that stretched over all of them.
"I miss her."
His voice broke.
"And I love her so much."
The wind carried his words away.
Perhaps toward the heavens.
Perhaps toward the woman who had changed their lives forever.
For a long moment, none of them spoke.
They simply stood together beneath the cherry blossom tree. Remembering the woman who had left too soon.
Yet somehow remained with them every day.
And as the petals danced through the air, the world felt peaceful.
Exactly the way Alyna had always wanted it to be.

The End 🌸
