Chapter 311
Chapter 311
“I’ll be back later to check on you. I’m going to go home and get some rest.”
“Okay.”
I leave the hospital without saying another word. I was exhausted and the driver was waiting outside for me per orders of Theo.
When I returned to the palace, Theo was waiting for me. He stayed behind because he needed to finish up some of his work. He’s been so busy since we returned from the future.
“Is everything okay with the baby?” He asks, staring around my face.
I nod once.
“Yes,” I answer. “So far everything is fine.”
“And Asher?”
“He seems fine too,” I answer. “I hope someday I can find a real cure for him and not a temporary fix. I hate seeing him in the hospital like this.”
Theo wraps his arms around me and pulls me close to him. I nuzzle my face into his chest and breathe him in.
“I know,” he says softly. “You will someday. I know you will. You are smart and capable of anything.”
I loved his confidence in me. I can’t help but kiss him. Our embrace is cut short when we hear a knocking at the front door of the palace. We turn to see the doorman opening the door. Theo was quick to reach the door before anyone entered and I stayed close behind him.
“Good evening, sir,” said a familiar voice from within the darkness of the night’s air. “I had just got to town, and I can’t help but notice the signs about needing new capable fighters. I have fought many battles in the past and I would love to show you what I can do if you’ll allow me.”
“At this hour?” Theo asks, raising his brows. “Gamma applicants are expected at proper hours during the daylight. We hold training sessions in the morning. Come back then and you can meet with the head gamma.”
Theo begins to turn away and the doorman was about to shut the door, but the man’s foot catches the door before it shuts all the way.
“I do apologize for coming at such an odd hour. But something was compelling me to come here right now. My wolf wouldn’t allow me to wait. It was telling me I needed to get here.”
Theo turns to face this man; a face I still couldn’t see because of how dark the outside was and he still hasn’t stepped into the light. I was getting a familiar feeling from this man. I didn’t feel nervous though; only curious. Telling from Theo’s composure, he too wasn’t nervous.
Dana came walking into the foyer with curiosity all over her face. There was an expression I didn’t recognize but she pauses when she sees the door of the palace and senses a man within the darkness. Her eyes widen and it was like time had frozen in place.
“Mate…” I swear I heard her breathing.
I narrowed my eyes at her, confused.
My heart pounding against my ribcage and I saw her expression turn into pure shock. Did I hear her correctly?
“Mate…” she says again; her tone turning into a squeak.
Realization hit me like a brick as I turned to the man at the door.
“Step into the light,” I order quickly. Theo looks at me with surprise. “Please, step into the light,” I say again, in a kinder tone.
The man steps into the palace and the light of the inside shine on his face.
I gasp as I stare around his familiar face before I whisper, “Scott?”
Molly
“My mate…” Scott says as he steps further into the palace and toward Dana. I could hear Dana’s heart beating so fast that I thought it was going to jump out of her chest. She couldn’t take her eyes away from Scott.
Theo and I exchanged questioning looks. In the underworld, I had no idea that they were mates. But maybe it was because they couldn’t recognize each other due to Xander’s control. He must have had more control over them than they thought. But that would explain why they became such great friends and why Scott cared about her so deeply while she was in the underworld. Even when he still stayed at the palace and worked for Xander, he seemed to still care for Dana.
Now that I think of it, I’m not sure when or how Scott even ended up in the underworld. But it must have been around this time. Dana and Scott must have gotten there around the same time for him to be here right now.
“This is why my wolf was so adamant about me coming here right now. He could sense you,” Scott breathes. “I didn’t even think I had a mate.”
Dana wasn’t sure what to say, that much was obvious. Her entire face was growing red, and she couldn’t keep her eyes off him. Theo stepped beside me.
“You are free to stay in the palace for as long as you’d like,” Theo says to him. “You can join the gammas in the morning. Meet the head gamma in the fighting arena at 8 am and show them what you can do.”
