Chapter 299
Chapter 299
“What the hell happened to us?!” One of the guards asked; his voice was trembling. “What have we done?!”
“Welcome back,” Dana said with a faint smile.
“How did this happen?” Another guard asked as he stumbled backward. He looked like he was about to pass out. “Where’s my family?”
“Xander had you brainwashed for a long time,” Dana answered. “I’m afraid he’s had a lot of control over you for many years. He’s had control over all of us…”
“No…” another guard breathed, shaking his head in denial. “That can’t be… I was JUST with my wife a few days ago. She just had a baby…”
“That was when you were on the werewolf land. We are in the underworld, and we have been for years. I’m sorry; I’m not sure where your wife and child are. But the one person who does and the one person who did this, is walking around the palace with more power than we know. We are going to need your help to put an end to his rein…” Dana said to them, trying to calm them.
“They’re awake?” I whispered in awe. “You woke them?”
“She has the tendency to do that,” Scott said from beside me. “She woke me a long time ago. That’s a necklace from her grandmother who happened to be a witch, it gives Dana witch-like abilities. But it’s limited.”
“Xander had taken it a long time ago when he figured out the powers it held. But when I got it back, I didn’t think I could get it to work again. It was like a dead battery,” Dana finished explaining. She glanced at Wren with a smile. “Until now.”
Wren returned her smile. Wrenley used her gifts from the moon goddess to recharge Dana’s necklace. How did she even know how to do that? I wondered if the moon goddess has been coming to her and showing her different ways to do things.
“We’ll do anything,” a guard said, still looking at his hands. “Anything to put an end to this shit and get back to my family.”
We had guards on our side now; this was perfect. I wondered how many more guards she would be able to wake. Soon, we will have an entire army of Xander’s men. Together, we made out way out of the office and down the hall until we reached the grand stairs.
At this moment, we were going to be exposed. I wasn’t afraid though; we had strong fighters on our side. The guards were the first to charge downstairs with their weapons drawn. I could hear the fear of those that occupied the lobby; they were running to safety, unsure of what was going on. I felt the strong power pulling me toward the ballroom. A faint purple glow illuminated the ballroom doors; it was from the ritual. It was happening now.
The rest of us ran behind the guards as they angrily charged toward the ballroom. They pushed the doors open and we piled inside.
The entire ballroom was glowing a purple shade and everyone at the ball was staring at the center of the room in awe. Like moths to a light. Everybody was mesmerized by what they were seeing. In the center of the ballroom was a large purple fire that rose toward the ceiling.
Dictating the fire was the one and only Xander.
Molly
“Mommy, that’s him!” Wrenley said from beside me, tugging onto my arm. “That’s the bad man.”
Of course, she didn’t have to tell me that; I already knew it was Xander she’s been seeing. The fire in the center of the ballroom kept rising with each word Xander was speaking. It sounded like he was speaking Latin. I could feel the powers that were circulating the room; it seemed everybody was feeling the same power surge because they were in awe of what was going on before them.
I could see the eager faces of those around us. They knew they were going to the werewolf territory; they were going to take over the lives of those who are already living. We couldn’t let this happen.
Theo was the first to shove through the crowd and get closer to Xander. He had that look on his face that showed determination. He was on a mission to stop Xander once and for all. This has been a battle he’s been wanting to finish since he was young. He was finally getting the chance to defeat Xander once and for all. Take back everything Xander had once taken from him.
Dana and Scott were the next to follow Theo, along with the guards that Dana had woken. I stayed a bit behind because of Wren. I didn’t want her in the middle of the fight even though she held the powers of the moon goddess. I still felt I needed to protect her. She had a look on her face that I didn’t recognize. It was a mix of determination like Theo and then fear.
She held onto me tightly as we cautiously followed the others. Xander finally sensed us nearby and I could see the smirk on his face as he turned his eyes to us. The fire was now burning without his words affecting it. The heat in the ballroom was only growing more intense the more the powers grew.
