Chapter 168 up

Chapter 168 up

The victory at Blackstone Fortress had shaken the Eclipse Order.
But it had not stopped them.
In the days that followed, new intelligence reports began arriving from every corner of the werewolf world. Scouts tracked unusual movements across remote territories. Supply lines vanished into uncharted mountain regions. Hidden agents reported whispers of a massive gathering deep within the eastern wilderness.
The enemy was preparing something.
Something big.
And everyone knew it.
Three nights after the battle, the war council gathered once again.
This time the meeting took place in a fortified command hall near the eastern borderlands, far closer to where the Eclipse Order’s remaining forces were believed to be hiding.
The stone chamber was quieter than usual.
The losses from the previous battle were still fresh.
The empty seats where Alpha Virek, Marrek, and Dorren once sat were impossible to ignore.
Yet the remaining leaders had come anyway.
Because the war was not over.
At the center of the room stood Lyra and Kael.
A new map covered the large war table.
Unlike the earlier maps that displayed dozens of enemy positions, this one had only a single location marked in red.
A vast mountain region known as Ashen Vale.
Selka activated the projection system beside the table.
A three-dimensional image of the valley appeared above the map.
Jagged peaks surrounded a wide basin of volcanic rock and dark forests.
“Satellite scouting and aerial recon confirmed it this morning,” Selka explained.
“Massive Eclipse Order activity.”
Kael nodded.
“They’re gathering their remaining forces there.”
Torren leaned over the table.
“How many?”
Rhea answered.
“Possibly thousands.”
A low murmur spread through the room.
Thousands.
That was more than double the number they had faced at Blackstone Fortress.
Lyra studied the map carefully.
“They’re consolidating.”
Kael nodded.
“Yes.”
“And preparing for their final move.”
One of the independent Alphas spoke cautiously.
“Do we know what Orion plans to do?”
Rhea placed another document on the table.
“Based on recovered records from the fortress, Orion believes the current pack system is beyond repair.”
Torren snorted softly.
“Yeah, we figured that part out.”
Rhea continued.
“His ultimate objective is global collapse.”
She pointed to several highlighted regions on the map.
“If he launches simultaneous attacks on major pack capitals and trade hubs, the resulting chaos could trigger widespread war.”
Selka nodded.
“Even if we defeat some of his forces, the damage would be catastrophic.”
Another Alpha frowned.
“So Ashen Vale is where he plans to launch everything?”
Kael looked around the table.
“Yes.”
A heavy silence settled over the room.
Because everyone understood what that meant.
This would not be another isolated battle.
This would be the final confrontation.
Lyra placed both hands on the table.
“If we allow Orion to execute his plan…”
“…the werewolf world collapses.”
No one argued.
Kael spoke next.
“That means we cannot simply defend our territories.”
Torren nodded.
“We go straight for the head.”
Selka looked at the map again.
“A direct assault on Ashen Vale.”
Rhea exhaled slowly.
“That terrain will be a nightmare.”
The valley was surrounded by steep volcanic ridges and narrow passes.
Perfect for ambushes.
Perfect for defensive warfare.
One Alliance commander frowned.
“They’ll expect us to attack.”
Kael nodded.
“Of course they will.”
Lyra’s eyes moved across the map slowly.
“Which is why we don’t attack the way they expect.”
Several Alphas looked at her curiously.
Selka tilted her head.
“What are you thinking?”
Lyra traced a line along the edge of the map.
“The valley has three major entrances.”
She pointed to the first pass.
“The western ridge.”
Then the second.
“The southern forest corridor.”
And finally the third.
“The volcanic canyon.”
Kael understood immediately.
“Three assault forces.”
Lyra nodded.
“We divide our armies.”
Torren raised an eyebrow.
“Bold.”
Selka studied the map.
“If we strike from three directions at once…”
“…their defensive lines collapse.”
Rhea frowned slightly.
“But dividing our forces carries risks.”
Kael nodded.
“Yes.”
“If one assault fails…”
“…the other two could be surrounded.”
Silence followed.
Because every commander in the room understood the stakes.
Lyra finally spoke.
“That is the cost of ending this war quickly.”
Her voice remained calm.
“If we hesitate…”
“…Orion will begin his global offensive.”
Torren rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
“High risk.”
“High reward.”
Kael looked at Lyra.
“Which assault do you lead?”
Lyra met his gaze.
“The central canyon.”
Kael nodded slowly.
“That’s the hardest route.”
“Yes.”
The canyon was narrow and exposed.
The most dangerous path into Ashen Vale.
Torren looked at Kael.
“So that means you’re taking one of the other routes?”
Kael shook his head.
“No.”
He pointed to the western ridge.
“I’ll lead that force.”
Selka immediately frowned.
“The ridge path is unstable.”
Rhea added,
“And heavily fortified.”
Kael shrugged slightly.
“That’s where the strongest resistance will be.”
Torren smirked.
“Of course you pick that one.”
Kael ignored him.
Selka looked at the map again.
“That leaves the southern corridor.”
Torren raised a hand casually.
“I’ll take that.”
Several Alphas glanced at him.
Torren grinned.
“What?”
“I can handle a forest.”
Kael nodded.
“You’ll have independent pack support.”
Selka added,
“And a smaller Alliance unit.”
Torren cracked his neck.
“Perfect.”
The final plan began taking shape.
Three armies.
Three attack routes.
One target.
Orion.
If the plan worked, the Eclipse Order would be trapped inside Ashen Vale with no escape.
But if it failed…
The war could spiral into the global catastrophe Orion wanted.
Hours later, the meeting ended.
The commanders left the hall one by one, preparing their forces for the coming battle.
Only Lyra and Kael remained near the war table.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
The map of Ashen Vale still glowed softly in the center of the room.
Finally Kael broke the silence.
“This could be the last battle.”
Lyra nodded.
“Yes.”
Kael studied her expression.
“Do you trust this plan?”
Lyra looked at the map.
“No plan survives contact with war.”
A faint smile touched Kael’s lips.
“Fair answer.”
She looked at him.
“Do you trust me?”
Kael didn’t hesitate.
“Yes.”
The answer was immediate.
Simple.
Honest.
Lyra felt something warm stir in her chest.
Kael rested one hand on the edge of the table.
“If we succeed…”
“…the war ends.”
Lyra nodded.
“And if we fail…”
Kael finished the thought quietly.
“The world burns.”
They stood there for a moment longer.
Two leaders.
Two rivals who had once stood on opposite sides of a divided world.
Now they were preparing to lead that world into its final battle.
Lyra turned off the map projection.
Darkness settled over the war room.
“The armies move at dawn,” she said.
Kael nodded.
“Then tomorrow…”
He looked toward the distant mountains beyond the fortress walls.
“…we end this.”
Far away in Ashen Vale, Orion stood atop a high volcanic ridge overlooking the valley below.
Thousands of Eclipse Order warriors gathered across the dark basin.
Training.
Preparing.
Waiting.
One of his agents approached.
“The enemy armies are moving.”
Orion smiled faintly.
“Of course they are.”
The agent hesitated.
“They are coming for us.”
Orion looked across the valley with quiet satisfaction.
“Yes.”
“That is exactly what I want.”
Below him, the vast battlefield waited.
Because Orion had not built Ashen Vale as a fortress.
He had built it as a stage.
The final war was coming.
And he intended to make sure the entire world would remember it.
