Chapter 38 38

Chapter 38 38
Episode 38

...

"How is this possible? What exactly happened?"

"Since when?" Sean looked completely panicked. He had already pulled the car over to the side of the road, and the fear on his face was enough to make Diana uneasy.

"Honey, what's wrong? Why do you look so shocked?" Diana rubbed his back, trying to calm him down because Sean genuinely looked shaken.

Sean remembered what Luna had said earlier... That she would make them pay for everything.

The memory alone sent a chill through his body. "Luna... Luna has become..." Sean couldn't even finish his sentence. The color drained from his face.

The moment Diana heard him say Luna's name, anger immediately flared inside her. "Honey! Do you still have feelings for Luna?"

"Ever since you saw her again, you've been looking for her everywhere, haven't you? Do you want her back? Huh?" Diana had finally reached the end of her patience. She knew Sean had been searching for Luna everywhere. Combined with the information the maid had secretly given her, Diana had become convinced that Sean and Luna had been having an affair behind her back.

Sean was already overwhelmed with panic. Hearing Diana accuse him at a time like this only made his temper explode. He turned toward her, his eyes blazing with anger. "So what if I've been looking for her everywhere? Huh?"

"Yes, I want her back!"

"Don't stand there acting as if you're some innocent saint, Diana!"

"You were the one who seduced me in the first place! You were my mistress! And you stole me from Luna!"

"You did everything you could to make me cheat on her with you!"

"If I compare you to Luna, you're nothing but a cheap woman! And I regret everything!"

"I've kept all of this buried for so long, but now I finally realize how badly I ruined my own life!"

"WHY DID I EVER MARRY YOU?!"

"You always force me to do everything your way! And I'm sick of it!" Sean shouted for the first time, finally unleashing everything he had been suppressing inside his heart.

If only he had realized from the beginning that he had never truly loved Diana, perhaps he wouldn't be drowning in this despair and emptiness now.

The thought that Luna truly belonged to another man now felt like a hand wrapped around his throat, slowly suffocating him.

His chest felt painfully tight. He didn't care anymore. Not even when Diana burst into tears and threw open the car door.

The moment she stepped out, Sean slammed his foot on the accelerator and sped away.

"AAAHHH!!! DAMN IT!"

"DAMN YOU, LUNA!"

"Ever since you got out of prison, my life has been falling apart, you bitch!"

"You should've died along with that grandmother of yours!" Diana screamed from the sidewalk. She didn't care that people were staring at her. She didn't care that strangers were slowing down to watch.

At this point, her hatred for Luna had reached its limit... In Diana's eyes, Luna had stolen every piece of happiness she had managed to build over the last two years.

...

Meanwhile...

Matthias and Luna were already inside the car... After lunch, they had actually gone somewhere together, although Luna had no idea where Matthias was taking her.

"Heh, being a boss really is nice, huh? You can skip work whenever you want." She grinned. "But being the boss's wife is pretty nice too."

"I get to skip work whenever I want as well. Hahaha!" Luna laughed cheerfully as she looked out the window. "It feels like skipping school."

"I always wondered what that felt like, but I was too scared to ever try it."

"Maybe this is what it feels like, right, Sir?" The moment the word slipped out, Luna immediately turned toward the seat beside her.

Matthias was sitting there with his arms folded, quietly watching his adorable wife. For some reason, his gaze lingered longer than usual and finally, Matthias understood. He finally understood why he had stopped in his tracks that day.

Why he had stared at Luna on that auction stage.

Why he had walked forward and bought her without hesitation.

At first, he thought it was simply because he wanted to use her. And yes, that had been his original goal, but now he knew that wasn't the real reason.

The truth was... The moment he saw her, he wanted to take her home.

Back then, he couldn't explain why, but the longer he spent with Luna, the clearer everything became... Now he finally knew the real reason.

"Ahem!" Luna suddenly grew nervous. She had accidentally called him "Sir" again. Quickly, she laughed awkwardly to ease the atmosphere.

"I mean, BABY!"

"Hahaha!" She immediately corrected herself. "So, are we going to a nice restaurant, BABE?" She deliberately looked away. She had no intention of making eye contact with her husband. Not when she knew perfectly well he would punish her for calling him "Sir" again.

"Hmm..." Matthias slowly leaned closer. "Where do you think we're going, babe?" Before Luna could react, his arm slid around her waist. He pulled her against him; firmly and possessively... Then lowered his voice beside her ear.

"AHEM... AHEM!"

Luna immediately tried to wiggle free. Unfortunately, the more she struggled, the tighter Matthias held her.

"Babe..." His voice brushed against her ear. "Why is your face so red?"

Luna instantly pressed her lips together. She didn't dare answer. She was already dying of embarrassment.

After all, her husband was hugging her in front of the personal driver who drove them around almost every day.

"Ahem..." The driver lowered his head awkwardly. "Sir... we've arrived." His face was just as red.

The words immediately shattered the atmosphere in the back seat.

Luna blinked then frowned as she looked outside, the scenery seemed strangely familiar. And then...

"Huh?" Her eyes widened. "Isn't this my family's cemetery?" She immediately turned toward Matthias.

"What are you planning to do here?" By then, Matthias had already stepped out of the car.

"It's a secret." He closed the door behind him. "Just wait here, babe."

Luna only became more confused. She quickly opened her door and leaned out.

"What?"

"Are you planning to threaten my family?"

"They're resting peacefully now."

"Don't bother them..." Her serious expression made Matthias rub his forehead.

"Haaaah..." He shook his head helplessly.

Sometimes his wife was unbelievably ridiculous.

Then he pointed at her from where he stood. "If you dare get out of that car and follow me..." His eyes narrowed. "I'll finish you off until morning."

"And I'm completely serious." Luna froze and a volcano seemed to erupt inside her head. Of course she knew exactly what Matthias meant. There was absolutely no way he was talking about anything innocent.

"W-What's wrong with him?!" She immediately covered her burning face. "How can he say things like that in front of other people?"

"Am I the only one who feels embarrassed here?!" She grumbled to herself. Then her gaze drifted back toward the direction Matthias had disappeared.

"What is he actually doing over there?"

"Ah..." A strange feeling settled in her chest. "I'm worried." No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop herself from watching the path he had taken.

...

Meanwhile, at Valery's residence...

"Why hasn't he contacted me?" Valery paced back and forth across her room. "I clearly sent him those photos!"

"He should've been furious."

"He should've gotten rid of that woman just like he got rid of me back then." Her nails dug into her palms. "What exactly is going on?"

"What does that woman have that I don't?"

"She's nothing but a low-class woman and a former criminal!"

"I'm clearly better than her in every way!" Valery's anxiety was reaching a breaking point. She had received no reply. No update. Nothing from Matthias. And the silence was driving her insane.

The longer it continued, the more convinced she became that her plan had failed. Especially after her family—particularly her father—had repeatedly warned her to stay away from Matthias.

They wanted her to forget the broken engagement. Her father had even promised to find her a man better than Matthias but Valery knew better... There wasn't a single man better than Matthias... Not in her eyes.

"I won't accept this." Her voice dropped into a whisper. "That woman..." Her expression darkened.

"If Matthias won't stay away from her..."

"Then she needs to disappear." Valery didn't even realize it. The feelings she once called love had slowly transformed into obsession.

And the most ironic part of all... She knew exactly why her relationship with Matthias had ended in the first place.
