Chapter 34 34
Chapter 34: I’ll Make Sure You Get What You Deserve!

...

“Luna…?”

Sean’s voice was unusually gentle as he stood directly in front of her. Luna had been searching for the pantry when he suddenly appeared.

“Huh?”

Startled, Luna looked him up and down, her gaze sharp and unfamiliar before it shifted into clear annoyance.

Seeing him immediately brought back Kevin’s words—that Sean had been cheating on her with his own stepsister since their college days.

“Hh…”

Luna let out a slow, heavy breath, clenching her hands tightly as she forced herself to stay calm. She couldn’t afford to cause a scene here, not in her husband’s company.

“Did you… come here to see me?” Sean asked softly, his tone filled with misplaced hope, as if he had completely forgotten the cruel way he had discarded her two years ago.

As if she had meant nothing.

As if she had been worth less than dirt.

Anger surged within her.

She crossed her arms and stepped closer, her eyes locking onto his before she leaned in and spoke in a low whisper.

She knew the employees nearby were watching. They would hear everything if she raised her voice.

So she kept it quiet,

but sharp enough to cut.

“Did you forget what you said to me two years ago?” she whispered. “You told me to die. You didn’t believe a single word I said.”

“And I also heard something interesting recently… that you and Diana had been cheating on me since college.”

Her lips curled slightly.

“Disgusting.”

Sean’s eyes widened at that word.

The Luna standing in front of him now was nothing like the girl he used to know.

The Luna he remembered had been gentle, patient—someone who endured everything in silence.

Now, even the way she looked at him felt unfamiliar.

“I didn’t plan to do anything to you, even after everything you did to me,” Luna continued in a cold whisper. “But after I found out how you betrayed me and humiliated me in front of everyone...” Her eyes hardened.

“I swear I’ll make you feel exactly what I went through.”

“You, Diana, and her mother… all of you will get what you deserve. Just wait.”

There was no hesitation in her voice.

No doubt.

She meant every word.

Then, without sparing him another glance, Luna turned and walked away.

She had already made up her mind.

She would reclaim her dignity from everyone who had trampled on it.

Sean stood there, frozen.

His breath caught in his throat, his hands trembling slightly as his eyes widened in disbelief.

“There’s no way she changed this much in just two years… What happened to her?”

“The Luna I knew… she would have stayed. She would have accepted me no matter what.”

“I was the only one who ever accepted her… the only one she had after her father died.”

Even after everything he had done to hurt her, the Luna he knew would never have left him.

Never.

Sean clenched his fists as he lifted his head, watching Luna’s figure grow more distant with each step she took.

And then...

a strange pain spread through his chest.

He and Luna had been together since high school. Back then, she had been a little chubby, but to him, she had always been adorable—her soft cheeks, her bright smile.

He remembered loving her.

And he knew she had loved him just as deeply.

But somewhere along the way, everything had changed.

He didn’t even know when it started.

Only that,

he would regret it for the rest of his life.

Because now, the Luna he once had could no longer be reached.

For a fleeting moment, his vision blurred, and the present seemed to overlap with the past.

The Luna walking away from him suddenly became the girl in her school uniform, running toward him with a bright smile.

‘Sean, were you waiting for me? Hahaha… you’re the only one I have in this world, so don’t ever leave me, okay…?’

Her cheerful voice echoed clearly in his ears.

His heart trembled violently.

A suffocating pain spread through his chest, forcing him to press a hand against it.

He had never felt this way when he left her.

Perhaps because he had always believed—

that Luna would come back to him.

But now…

everything was different.

Sean knew she meant every word she said.

And she would never return to him again.

That realization... was what made his chest ache the most.

...

And, on Luna’s side...

“Huh? How dare he look at me like that… as if I’m still the same Luna who loved him so desperately?”

“NO WAY! I’m not going back to being that foolish woman!”

Her fists clenched tightly at her sides as anger surged through her chest.

“Even if I don’t know how yet… I’ll make all of you pay. And I’ll find out who poisoned Grandma. Whoever did it is still out there, living freely… I won’t let that go!”

The frustration inside her built until her whole body trembled, her chest tightening with the weight of it.

She hated it.

Hated the way Sean had looked at her—as if nothing had changed, as if he hadn’t abandoned her at the lowest point of her life, as if she would simply come back to him.

As if she had no dignity at all.

With a sharp breath, Luna stepped into the elevator, intending to return to her husband’s office. She had no mood left to make coffee. Even if Matthias got angry, she would just pretend not to hear him.

But as the elevator ascended, a cleaning service staff member stepped in as well, heading to the top floor.

“Uh… I really don’t feel like making coffee,” Luna muttered under her breath. “If he starts nagging again, I might actually cry from how annoyed I am.”

She clicked her tongue softly.

“Tsk… even at a time like this, I still don’t have a choice.”

Reluctantly, she asked the staff member where the pantry was.

It turned out there was a private pantry on her husband’s floor—and the staff member even had to step back out and personally guide her there.

“I’ve been walking around everywhere, and it was here this whole time?” Luna grumbled, stomping her foot lightly in irritation.

At this point, everything around her seemed to annoy her.

How could it not?

The pantry door was disguised with a hidden panel—of course she hadn’t noticed it.

Still muttering under her breath, Luna finally prepared the coffee. The staff member had already returned upstairs, leaving her alone.

Once it was done, she carried the cup back to her husband’s office.

The moment she pushed the door open—

Luna froze.

The luxurious office greeted her again, but this time, it wasn’t the room that captured her attention.

It was him.

Matthias had taken off his suit jacket, leaving only a crisp white shirt that fit perfectly over his broad frame. He was seated at his desk, glasses resting on his nose as he worked, shielding his eyes from the glare of the screen.

And somehow,

that made him even more handsome.

Not in the cold, intimidating way she was used to…

but in a different way.

Like the most admired senior on campus—serious, composed, the kind of man every woman would secretly fall for.

‘Am I losing my mind… or does he look ridiculously handsome when he’s focused like this?’

‘He doesn’t look arrogant or terrifying at all…’

She swallowed.

‘If he stays like this… I might actually fall for him. Hah… what am I even thinking?’

Luna quickly shook her head, snapping herself out of it.

‘What the hell was that?!’

‘Out of everyone, he’s the one person I absolutely must not fall for!’

‘I’m not going to love him. I’ll keep hating him. Remember that, Luna. Don’t waver just because of his face!’

Taking a steady breath, she straightened herself. The softness in her gaze disappeared, replaced with a sharp, guarded look as she stepped inside.

“Hm? What are you doing just standing there?”

Matthias had already leaned back slightly in his chair, tilting his head as his sharp blue eyes locked onto her.

“Did you go sightseeing around the city? It took you long enough just to make a cup of coffee.”

His tone was casual, but his gaze remained piercing.

Caught off guard by how unfairly handsome he looked, Luna instinctively lowered her head and quickly placed the coffee on his desk.

“I’m sorry, Sir. I got lost looking for the pantry, so it took a bit longer.”

“Here’s your coffee.”

Without waiting for a response, she turned, ready to return to her desk and bury herself in work.

“Stop.”

His voice cut through the air instantly.

Luna froze mid-step and turned back slowly.

“What is it now…?” she thought bitterly, though her expression remained composed.

Matthias leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms as he watched her with a sharp, assessing gaze.

“Come here.”

He crooked a finger at her, a faint smirk playing on his lips, his presence dominant and impossible to ignore.

He looked dangerous.

Irresistibly so.

And that, to Luna, was a very bad sign.

“Hm…”

Lowering her head, she stepped closer. She already had a feeling what was about to happen—but she also knew she couldn’t avoid it.

The moment she came within his reach, Matthias’s smirk deepened.

Without warning, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward him.

“Ah!”

Luna let out a small yelp as she was suddenly pulled down onto his lap. Her eyes widened as she instinctively looked up at him, both hands pressing against his chest.

“What are you doing?” she protested, her brows knitting together in disbelief.

She hadn’t expected him to be this bold.

Not here.

Matthias only hummed softly, clearly amused.

One arm wrapped securely around her waist, pulling her closer, while his other hand slid up to her neck, his thumb gently brushing against her cheek.

“This is my company,” he said smoothly. “I can do whatever I want here.”

He leaned in, his face drawing closer to hers, his lips curling into a faint, dangerous smile.

Close enough,

that she could feel his breath.

Close enough,

that she could hear her own heartbeat pounding wildly in her ears.

And in that suffocating closeness…

everything between them suddenly felt far too intimate.
